A day trip with friends.....

Our Location:

North of MM 4, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

A quiet morning, Riley and I got our steps in and then kind of just putzed around waiting for Doug & Yuma (Miss Adventure Travels ) to drop by. You see we had a plan for this afternoon. Sure enough just before 1 pm a little silver streak appeared and in a cloud of dust and squealing of tires stopped just short of the Igloo. Doors flying open and out pops Mr. Yuma, all excited, tail wagging and almost knocking his butt out of alignment! Doug managed to get out too.

Sunset, Dec 5, 2022, Ogilby Road.

Fire in the sky.

The fire is extinguished.

We all piled into the Dogsled and headed off, we took a tour down Sidewinder Road until we finally found the end of the pavement and who should be there but Ivan ( Roadtrip  ). We climbed out and managed a few minutes chat before we invited him to come along on our road trip. He agreed and before long Riley, Doug, Ivan, Yuma and I were off with the Big Dog running nose into the wind.

Ivan and I bought grapefruit here.

We never all posed for a photo but I did get one.

I love the colour!!!

We took S 24 through the farm fields, (no photos, sorry I was busy driving) around the corners, under the palms and managed to find a number of places of interest to stop. Our final destination was of course Mittry Lake and we found it. Considering that both Ivan and Doug have parked there it would have been impossible to miss. Beautiful spot, very green, very undesert like. I'm not sure it's a place we would stay but I can see the appeal. The draw backs of course are the proving grounds very near by. Very loud at times I'm sure. A couple of planes when over while we were at the roadside vendor and poor Yuma climbed into the truck and wouldn't come out for some time. He was not happy.

In the middle of the desert there is water!

I think this may be the Imperial Dam but I could be wrong.

Laguna Dam.

The Date Shake Place Doug wanted to stop at was sold and is now closed. Ivan and I managed to buy some grapefruit from a road side vendor. They look fantastic. I'm anxious to try them. A big bag for $3.00, she had lemons as well and I think Blood Oranges. We had just bought lemons a few days ago or I would have purchased a bag there.

The bottom of a palm tree at Mittry Lake.

I think these may be dates, but not well tended ones.

Can you see the individual roots?

A stop at Walmart for some groceries and we were heading home as the sun was going down. We dropped Ivan at home which was being guarded by Miss Hailey, headed out to the rest area on I-8 to dump some garbage and then home as the sun was just sinking below the horizon. Doug & Yuma headed off in the Jeep for the White Lion and should have arrived about dark! A very good day. Thanks for the tour Gents. Riley and I enjoyed the afternoon.

Lots of colour out here by the lake.

The yellows are almost like rust.

Coots at Mittry Lake.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed your visit.

Until next time,

Take care, be safe,

Deb

  1. Awesome photos. Beautiful lake and not one of you with a fishing pole. Sun sets are the best. Vern, Boise (high 37)

    1. There was a boat pulling away when arrived, but I don’t know if anyone would eat a fish pulled from there or not.
The sunsets are pretty Vern. Our high today reached about 70f/21c. A very nice day.

    1. It is a pretty spot, and we enjoyed the lush greens, yellows and oranges that we don’t see in our usual spots. A very nice change, like the grass a Christmas Circle in Borrego Springs. However we enjoyed the company a great deal more.

    1. It was indeed and you fine Bayfield folks came up in conversation a time or two as you have posted about some things in this area as well. You, Kelly and Pheebs would have fit right in with the wild bunch! Lol

  4. I had read on a friend's blog that their favorite date shake place was closed as well, must have been the same place. I have never tried one, but I hear they are good.

  5. I've never had a date shake, but I have made sticky toffee pudding (an English thing) that uses dates. Mighty tasty.

    1. Not a date person. However it’s good we all like different things, leaves more for others!

  6. Yes, with the addition of the Bayfield Bunch it would have been a rowdy crowd. Great pictures. Sorry we didn't get our ice cream.
