Views of the Cargo Muchacho Mountains.....

Our Location:

North of MM 4, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

A long walk and some wonderful views of the Cargos. Enjoy.

For anyone that has spent much time at the American Girl Mine Road area these photos will be familiar.

I climbed a little hill and looked around.

A beautiful camping spot down there.

The open pit mine is back that way where the whiteish area is.

Someone is camped backed here. Can yous see the blue van?

You can see some of the mining equipment over there, trucks still haul from there on occasion.

The power lines in the near distance and the dunes way off in the distance.

Pretty empty down there, usually there are many, many rigs down there.

The old caged mine entrance over there, can you see it?

Not extremely high but the view is pretty good.

The Cargo Muchacho's are a fair distance away, even though they don't appear to be.

I didn't climb to the white flat spot but just to the top of the road. The other spot was too difficult to reach.

I hope you enjoyed the views.

Until next time..

A very short post....

Our Location:

North of MM 4, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

No post yesterday and I debated about today. I'm struggling to post every day and think for the remainder of our stay here on Ogilby I may not post, or at least not much, which also means I won't be reading/commenting either. I will eventually catch up but not for a while.  Enjoy the pics I've found on my phone, no idea when I took them.

The wash if full of growth.

As you can see, the wash is very wide and the growth is in the middle.

Can you see the black cow laying under the tree over there?

Oh, not a cow!

The waves in the wash.

Lots of debris in the creases.

Amazing how the patterns change in less than 6 inches.

The desert is claiming it's own back.

You can see it's been here a while.

From the earth and back to the earth.

Thanks for stopping by.

Until next time....

Rain and wind......

Our Location:

North of MM 4, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

This day has been cloudy, windy, coolish and an inside day. The rain was this morning and not hard but steady for at least an hour or so. The wind has been picking up and dropping off all day and as I write this it's picking up again. It feels like rain may come back around again. Today's pics are some random extras I have on my phone. Enjoy.

The wash/arroyo is very wide and in some places the sand is very soft, difficult walking.

It divides here and the palo verde tree is in the middle of the divide.

The wash/arroyo is very wide here.

You can see it's narrow here, and very green on the sides.

Like spanish moss, this mistletoe invades healthy trees and kills them eventually.

The bottom of the wash/arroyo is very gravelly, small, medium and large.

The large stuff is off to the side while the main flow is sandish.

An old drum deposited in the wash/arroyo.

Pretty beat up and creased.

It's been in this spot for a while.

A prehistoric creature in the wash/arroyo.

Dinosaur? Porcupine? or some thing else?

Maybe it's Gollum from Lord of the Rings or maybe it's just an odd shaped sage bush.

Until next time...

Some pics from a few days ago...

Our Location:

North of MM 4, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

Errands in Yuma where the focus, Harbor Freight, 99cent store, Walmart, and propane. The U-Haul where we normally get propane and the Chevron at Pilot Knob are the same price, $3.99. Home and finished putting away the groceries by 1:30. The wind started picking up and making it kind of dusty to be outside and a wind advisory in effect tomorrow as well. Chatted with my dad later in the day, surprise, surprise the Rock is getting a lot of wind too. Wind seems to be the constant word in most conversations.

Those looked like smoke from farther away.....

Palo Verde trees that are dying....

all along this wash.

They are still very stiff and pointy needles.

Deep in the wash, lots of debris.

They are fast and blend well.

The pattern is eye catching. You can see the direction of the flow from the caught up debris.

Waves in the desert.

Paper thin layers.

Still some pretty blooms, some not open yet too.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed the pics.

Until next time...

A walk in the wash.....

Our Location:

North of MM 4, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

It's a photo kind of day. A few days ago I went for a stroll and here's a little of what I witnessed.

The recent rain made ripples in the sand.

The wind helped to dry it out.

In those shadows it's very moist. You can see the different colour.

Can you see the pink way down there?

Chatting with my dad yesterday I learned they had a big dump of snow again. It seems the snow comes and goes as much as the wind.

This is the  pink that was way off in the distance in the above pic.

Blooms in the future. The spikes are about 6 " long. I love the colours.

Between the wind blowing and my shaking, it is a pretty good pic.

Until next time....
