The last day of 2022....

Our Location:

North of MM 4, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

A very foggy morning here at Camp Ogilby. I think this has been the dampest year we've had out here in all the years we've been coming. We've had more fog and dampness this year than I can remember from previous years.

On our walk we could see the fog beginning to lift a little but it was a slow process.

The White Lion, The Igloo and The Stinger Bee.

It almost looks like snow but it isn't. Those mountains are the ones that appear a tan/brown colour most times.

We spent some time with our friends Deb & Tom (Celebrating the Dance)  and Doug (Miss Adventure Travels) this afternoon for happy hour as the fog had lifted, the temps had climbed, and the wind had died down. I think we are going to have a campfire later this evening to usher out the old year and bring in the new one. I think we'll be using east coast time as I doubt any of us can last longer than 9 pm here, well at least me.

The Dogsled and the Igloo.

Happy New Year to each and everyone of you. May it bring you peace, joy and good health. Please don't drink and drive, the life you save may be mine!!

Sunset Dec 31, 2022 over the White Lion

It was a beautiful sky tonight.

Behind us wasn't too shabby either.

Goodnight from the Cargo Muchacho Mountains on Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California.

Until next time....

A visit to Mexico this morning...

Our Location:

North of MM 4, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

A very heavy fog lay on the land this morning and persisted for a number of hours but was gone by noon. Riley and I headed out to Mexico to make an appointment for dental cleaning for her.  We enjoyed our time there, managed to see a few sights and have breakfast. Home around noon we spent the rest of the day just putzing and I spent happy hour with Deb & Tom.

I wonder if the kids would like one of these pinatas?

The courtyard where I had a manicure today.

Riley told me they weren't very comfortable to sit on.

They are pretty though.

Fog over Pilot Knob as we are leaving Los Algodones, Mexico

Heated tailgate? I know it's not but what a thought.

Fog in the Cargo Muchacho Mountains

It almost looked like snow.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed your visit.

Until next time...

A busy day..........

Our Location:

North of MM 4, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

Today we had a few chores to handle and so by 8:20 am we were pulling the Igloo along as the Big Dog headed down I-8 East to the Chevron Station to dump our tanks. From there we headed back on I-8 but West to the rest area for water and to use the dumpsters. After that it was back home again and once parked back in the same spot and things set up we headed to Yuma for some groceries. Our day's chores were completed by 1:00 pm MST. An afternoon happy hour with the neighbours and our day was complete.

Sunrise this morning, Dec 29, 2022

Little 'cities' pop up on holidays here in the Imperial Sand Dune area.

Different sized groups gather in various places near the dunes.

This paragraph is for my reference, Chevron Station $10 dump but no water of any kind, not even to flush the hose. Rest area has potable water and is easy access. Lots of dumpsters, easy on and off. Rest area is 4 miles past Ogilby Road exit in the middle, so a left hand exit but a right hand entrance.  Walmart is on South Pacific Avenue, also has a drinking water dispenser, 5 gallons for $1.

The Imperial Sand Dunes.

This area was almost empty a week ago.

Now there are dozens of rigs here.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed your visit.

As you can see, it was a cloudy, cool day.

The All American Canal. All photos were taken while hurtling down the road (Riley took them) at 60mph.

Until next time...

A successful day for Riley....

Our Location:

North of MM 4, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

My morning started around 4 am, or at least I was awake for the day by this time. The patter of a light rain on the roof was comforting and when I finally started drinking my coffee around 7 am I could smell the sweet, sharpness of the desert and the rain had been stopped for over an hour. A little ground fog for a very short time and soon it was pushing 60F/15.5C. Riley decided today would be the day to walk back to the cave I've been to a few times this year. It's a long walk from home but she wanted to give it a try. Riley has been walking most days making between 5500 -6000 steps. She was certain it would be a challenge but she wanted to try it. We started off a bit later than we normally do but we took our time, paced ourselves and before long, we were very close and soon we reached the crevice in the mountains. She was so happy.

Riley heading up the path toward the crevice in the mountain.

Taking a photo with her phone while she rests.

She rested for a while and sipped some water, took a couple of pics and after about 20 minutes we headed back home. We managed to meet some fellow Ontarians, that are in fact parked not far from us. Eric, Susan and their dog Kevin (who is one year old today) were out stretching their legs. They hail from Oshawa, near Toronto. Their first time out here and they seem to be having a great time. We arrived at the Stinger Bee and sat down for a rest while visiting with Deb, Tom (Celebrating the Dance )and Doug (Miss Adventure Travel ). Before long Riley headed home and shortly after I followed along.

The view from where Riley is sitting. The Igloo, Stinger Bee and White Lion are off to the right but not visible.

This little guy was scurrying among the rocks.

I'm very proud of her for making the effort to put in double her regular steps and so happy she was able to go all the way.  She checked her phone and found that 11, 480 steps were registered and 4.89 miles were walked in a little over 2 hours. It isn't precision accuracy but it's close enough as the step counter is on our phones. A very successful day here in Southern California.

The ground is littered with these fascinating stones.

It is the copper content which turns it green.

Fuzzy but you get the idea.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed your visit.

Until next time...

A beautiful sunrise.....

Our Location:

North of MM 4, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

I hope you enjoy this mornings sunrise. The sky started to light over the Cargos and soon the reddish tinge was evident and it just kept growing, pinks, red, and finally yellows. With the cloud cover it was a quite a show.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed your visit.

Until next time..

A trip to Mexico with friends....

Our Location:

North of MM 4, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

This morning we had a plan to go to Mexico with our friends Deb & Tom (Celebrating the Dance) and so at 7 am we climbed into their Jeep and headed off. We had a great morning just enjoying the company and the atmosphere. We were all finished by noon and back home.

A park across from Deb & Tom's dentist.

A fountain near the Pancho Cafe where Riley and I had a morning drink of choice.

The insulators on the pole were very interesting.

I spent the rest of the afternoon sitting in the sun and just enjoying the peace and quiet. Happy hour was spent at the Stinger Bee, lots of laughs and stories. A very enjoyable time.

Deb & Tom's dentist is in that yellow building.

I love the orange colour.

It's like being back home, 20 klm is the speed limit.

Thanks for stopping by I hope you've enjoyed the photos of Mexico.

The following pictures were all taken inside the courtyard at the dentist office.

I truly enjoyed the colours and tiles. Very eye catching.

Until next time....
