We've moved, possible solution but maybe not....

Our Location:  American Girl Mine Road, California

(2nd post today)

Decent overnight temperatures but still over cast skies didn't bode well for a nice day. A chat with Jason yesterday at CJ’s RV repair in Yuma had us packing up and heading into Yuma to arrive  after lunch THEIR time.

In case any one wants this information.

We stopped on our way to empty our tanks at the Chevron Station located at the Pilot Knob BLM land. The dump fee is based on length of rig. We paid $15 for our 35 foot unit. It wasn’t necessary to dump at this time but when we move on in a week or so we want to be able to just continue on down the road. They also have an easily accessible air pump as well.

Apparently leaving the hood up stops Kangaroo Rats from gnawing on wires, or so some think. He also had flashing rope lights under the hood.

We pulled into CJ’s Rv repair on Tiffany Lane about 12:30 pm Arizona Time. Jason was at his desk doing what ever it was he does there. Introducing myself and reminding of him our conversation yesterday he smiled and came with us to the Igloo. We discussed numerous things and he checked the batteries saying they read fair to good and no need to replace them. We couldn’t really find any issues but we discussed our usage differences in the past little while. Riley and I don’t usually watch TV although we have of late but only during the day time when the batteries are charging. Jason pointed out that perhaps the batteries aren’t being fully charged in that time with the draw of the tv at the same time. I’m not convinced that’s the issue but we’ll give it a try and see how it works. He did change a few settings for the charge controller as well. It should be a sunny weekend so hopefully everything gets charged fully and things get back to normal. If not I’ll be heading back to try something else. Jason spent about 30 minutes or so with us but in the end there was no charge. I was shocked and pleasantly surprised. Thanks Jason and CJ’s RV of Yuma.

Our old spot yesterday, you can see the fella with the hood up off on the left.

We tried on the way home to find a place to park at the Walmart to pick up some produce after yesterday’s discussion with the Agriculture check point fella but we were just too big to fit comfortably in the busy lot and so we just headed home and will go back in at a later time with just the Dogsled.

A dark overcast sky yesterday.

A stop at the Agriculture Inspection station had us being checked by a younger woman who asked if we had any fruit of any kind. Yes we have two red apples. She closed down the lane, took our two apples and didn’t care where we bought them. Hmmmm….glad it was just a couple and not a bag. So there you have it. Most every one says you can bring groceries with you but not all of the inspectors agree. Kind of an iffy call if you buy lots of fruit. I suppose I could have lied but I don't like doing that. Honesty is the best policy.

The view of the mountains from our current spot.

We arrived back at Ogilby Road and moved to one of the other spots I found on a walk in the area. We are currently sitting pretty much on our own although we can see others around us. Temperatures reached about 72F/ 22C but a chilly wind blew all day from the north east. Our overcast skies became sunny and hopefully they remain that way for a number of days.
With no zooming in, the same picture as above.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed your visit.

Our side yard.

Some nice barrel cactus.

Until next time…. take care, be safe,

  1. Nice that you got things checked out and hope things work better for you. When we there at Pilot knob California I go back and forth to yuma and always pass the that agricultural station we eat a long of fruits and veggies, I just tell them we went shopping at walmart , or frys and they have never once taken anything in the last 12 plus years, hmm, You can drive 45 miles west to El Cento, but we wont do that for a few veggies.

    1. That was what the first inspector told me or implied, that if it's not picked or purchased from a vendor but purchased from a grocery store you SHOULD be okay but to buy GROWN IN CALIFORNIA. The new hires are more 'diligent" was what I took from the rest of his words. It sounded to me as if the new hires couldn't be persuaded by the long timers arguments and were following the book. The young woman repeatedly told me that it was the law and she had to abide by it.

Anyway, I'm not arguing with anyone. I'm just explaining what happened. I would dislike seeing someone losing their big fruit purchase and not being forewarned.

I wouldn't drive that far for fruit either. We will be heading back into Yuma in the next few days and I'll try again. Perhaps if I offer a receipt they will be different. Life is interesting.

  3. Hope things work out with the battery/charging thing. Too bad about your apples but luckily it was only 2. We also go back and forth from Yuma to California when at Pilot Knob. have never been stopped but there is always a first time. LOL

    1. Thanks Patsy. I'm not really convinced about the usage difference but I'm more than willing to try it and see. I know you and George mentioned that last year too and on our first day through we could have had an Igloo full of water melons or anything else. One person manning TWO booths. He was just waving everyone through. NEW HIRES I think is the luck of the draw at the booth.

  4. I think someone wanted a couple of apples for lunch. Glad you got a fair shake from Jason with your charging system check.

I think Yuma is missing his home with the cold and snow we have here now.

Say hello to Riley for me.

    1. We think of you and Yuma from time to time. The line,"It's just around the next corner." come to us on our travels. We enjoyed that trip!!!

  5. Another way of stopping the Kangaroo Rats or Pack Rats is by having Flashing Lights under the hood and around your vehicles. You can purchase Strings of Solar Powered LEDs fairly inexpensively and they work. It is the Flashing that scares them away.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. Thanks Rick. I have some flashing rope lights I purchased a few years ago at Harbor Freight in Mississippi. I'll keep that in mind.
