Our Location: Road 801, Near American Girl Mine Road
We were up very early this morning, hooked up and heading out by 6:30 AM PST for an appointment at CJ’s Repair for two new batteries. We arrived at the shop a little over an hour later. I unloaded the front cubbie to make it easier to clean up the area and remove the old batteries. We stepped back and let Jason do his business.

While waiting we chatted with a fellow from Alberta having a propane leak in his motor home fixed. He shared with us a number of stories including one about his buddy who was refusing to pay for a brake job on his 5’er. Seems the guy was quoted $65 PER WHEEL but when it was finished the bill came in at $1200 US. Law enforcement is involved and it is just a mess. Glad it’s not me. So beware!

Jason was quick and about an hour later I was paying for two new batteries. Certainly lightened my wallet. We headed off homeward but with some give and take about where to park. We first went to the historic town site just up Ogilby Road but it’s so rough getting back to the spots and they are extremely unlevel after a few attempts we just decided to come back to the area we had been in this morning.
|We waved to Bill & Patsy and Elva Shannon on our way past Pilot Knob Resort and the BLM land.
Concerns from back home that we were too far from others prompted us not to go back to the spot we were in but to stay closer to the roadway. We are about half the distance between Ogilby Road and our previous spot. I doubt we’ll stay long, neither of us particularly care for this spot.

This afternoon during full sun we charged an iPad, a phone and a Kobo and we are again back to 2/3 on the battery levels. Brand new batteries, fully charged this morning, nothing is on but we’re losing power. How is that possible? It’s a rhetorical question. I know there must be a draw somewhere but the charge control panel shows NO DRAWS OF ANY KIND. Now there is no light on the panel side of the control charger so there is no charge of any kind happening. This morning as of this post the light for the panels is back on once again.
So that was our day. Nothing exciting and nothing gained. While I like Jason and I think the shop does good work on most other kinds of repairs I'm not recommending him for solar work. Any questions I asked about the charge controller where answered with the same basic sentence. 'It's not the kind we use so I know nothing about it, you'd have to ask someone that knows that brand.' To me this is kind of like a Chevy mechanic saying it's not a Chev so I don't know how it should work. Some things are basic and I was hoping for more. However the prices were very reasonable, the service was very good in that I could get in quickly. They seemed more than happy to help and as I said before when he checked the batteries the first time, there was no charge for his service. So you would have to make up your own mind.
