Another do nothing day...

Our Location:

BLM on US 62 East, near Carlsbad, NM
A do nothing day again but we've made a decision to bypass the tour of the caverns for a number of reasons. So I've spent the day figuring out our route all the way home to Ontario which will have us stopping in Tennessee for a while. We will be heading out on Sunday morning from here and so tomorrow will also be a do nothing day except for fuel and to find a place to dump the garbage.

Looking around out the door.
The wind died down last night around 3 am, but picked up again off and on through the day but not nearly as bad as yesterday. We heard voices of children this afternoon so we know folks are around but we can't see them. They must be in tents as I see no rigs of any kind unless they are very small in among the bushes closer to the roadway. Otherwise it's just us here that I can see. Didn't even have a visit from the cows today.

I finished a book by Rick Mofina, it was okay but not the best book ever read. I started a Robert Ludlum book, The Bourne Supremecy today as well.  I've been reading Ludlum for many years and always enjoy his books. I read this trilogy long, long before the movies came around.

Thanks for stopping by.

Until next time... take care, be safe,
Deb

  1. At least you are relaxing and taking it easy too bad the weather is not too great. The caverns are amazing if you want to do them.
Enjoy your travels wherever they may talk you. And travel safe.

    1. I think the resting is a good idea with the change in elevation and the humidity factor increasing. We discussed it a few times and decided it's not going to work this time but never say never, who knows what the future holds.

      Thanks George.

    2. I see you are going to Big Buck Resort, we had planned on going there this year it is one of our Membership parks, will be interesting in seeing your view of it. We have yet to be there.

    3. We like it, we stayed there on our way west last fall. It's a very nice park, lots of places to walk, a bit far from major shopping but the folks are friendly. They have a large club house, a small restaurant, nice bath houses, and the park is very clean, easy to find, not far off US 64 which is a a four lane back road most of the time, it narrows a bit in places but it's an easy road to travel. I'm sure you would enjoy it. We stayed about 10 days on our way last fall.

    4. We plan to be there by this coming weekend for at least a week to 10 days once again, maybe even a bit longer.

  2. More then once Tom and I have gotten somewhere and had a "plan" and something just told us move on. The wind in New Mexico can be fierce. Though we are beginning to think the wind in Arizona is trying to compete. Stay safe.

    1. It just isn't meant to be this time and so we'll keep Caverns on the list for another time and hopefully things work out better next time.

The wind will be picking up again tomorrow afternoon through Monday and then calming on Tuesday but we'll be pulling out Sunday morning arriving at our new destination before the winds get up too high. Besides which they will be head wind and that's tough on fuel mileage but easier driving than a side wind.

  3. I have a feeling that the winds are going to control many of us for a while as we journey homeward. Just stay safe and enjoy the best parts of this lifestyle.

    1. I think you're right. The forecast looks a bit rough for the next couple of days but after Monday it looks pretty good. By the end of next week we'll be in Tennessee safely tucked in at Big Buck Resort for a while and hopefully the only thing we'll worry about is which movie to watch.

I'm a chicken when it comes to driving in bad weather, I'll just sit it out, we still have many days before we need to be pushing toward the border and if necessary we'll just extend the insurance for an extra day or two. Better to arrive late than not at all is my motto.

Safe travels to you, Bill and Clemson as well.
