Rain and wind......

Our Location:

North of MM 4, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

This day has been cloudy, windy, coolish and an inside day. The rain was this morning and not hard but steady for at least an hour or so. The wind has been picking up and dropping off all day and as I write this it's picking up again. It feels like rain may come back around again. Today's pics are some random extras I have on my phone. Enjoy.

The wash/arroyo is very wide and in some places the sand is very soft, difficult walking.

It divides here and the palo verde tree is in the middle of the divide.

The wash/arroyo is very wide here.

You can see it's narrow here, and very green on the sides.

Like spanish moss, this mistletoe invades healthy trees and kills them eventually.

The bottom of the wash/arroyo is very gravelly, small, medium and large.

The large stuff is off to the side while the main flow is sandish.

An old drum deposited in the wash/arroyo.

Pretty beat up and creased.

It's been in this spot for a while.

A prehistoric creature in the wash/arroyo.

Dinosaur? Porcupine? or some thing else?

Maybe it's Gollum from Lord of the Rings or maybe it's just an odd shaped sage bush.

Until next time...

Take care, stay safe,

Deb

  1. Thanks for all the great photos. I'm surprised someone isn't panning for gold in some of them washes. Are you keeping an eye out for anything that creeps or snakes along. Vern

    1. There is no gold in these washes or at least not any visible. No funky critters either it's too cool.

    1. Oh well, if we never had any bad days, how would we know when we had an enjoyable.

  3. Well I am nothing if not persistent I am going to try again. I keep leaving comments and when I go back to check what you have replied it is not there. I love the walks in the washes, how you can see the ripples from the water and sometimes the little tiny wildflowers. Not to mention the grass...😎 The realization of the power of the water that moves things in the larger ones is a wake up call. The prickly pears are so pretty with there pink flowers. I see a very dangerous porcupine or maybe just maybe that is Gollum I see his eyes in the last picture.

    1. No grass yet. LOL. Persistent is good! The force of nature is powerful and we should all be aware. It's always interesting how people see things differently.

  4. With all that rain, you must be ready to hit the road and see some new scenery. Take your time though, it is still cold and snowy up here. They say it is spring, but we have yet to see it!

    1. Rain is a fact of life, here or on the road, I'd rather get it here. I'm a fair weather driver. LOL. The temps have fallen quite a bit in the last number of the days, about 10 degrees.

  6. When my dad retired he and a friend would go out there searching for gold...lol. They used air for sluicing. Jerry said they had a vial with a couple of ounces.

    1. I doubt I'll ever find any gold. Mostly because I don't look for it. Lol.

  7. There are endless possibilities of what we will find in the desert! Nice pictures and imagination creates some unusual creatures too!
We didn't have the rain yesterday, blue skies but still windy.

    2. I've always been open to ideas of 'what I see' and it usually isn't what others see.
