Rain and wind......

 

Our Location: 

North of MM 4, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

 

This day has been cloudy, windy, coolish and an inside day. The rain was this morning and not hard but steady for at least an hour or so. The wind has been picking up and dropping off all day and as I write this it's picking up again. It feels like rain may come back around again. Today's pics are some random extras I have on my phone. Enjoy. 

 

The wash/arroyo is very wide and in some places the sand is very soft, difficult walking.

It divides here and the palo verde tree is in the middle of the divide.

You can see it's narrow here, and very green on the sides.

 

Like spanish moss, this mistletoe invades healthy trees and kills them eventually.

The bottom of the wash/arroyo is very gravelly, small, medium and large.

The large stuff is off to the side while the main flow is sandish.

Pretty beat up and creased.

It's been in this spot for a while.

Dinosaur? Porcupine? or some thing else?

Maybe it's Gollum from Lord of the Rings or maybe it's just an odd shaped sage bush.

Windy day today....

Our Location: Near American Girl Mine Road, BLM, CA

 

A coldish night, not cold but colder than cool. You know the kind I mean, coldish. The wind was around all night or at least when I fell asleep last night and it was still there this morning. I stayed in bed reading and didn't bother with the sunrise. It would be too cold for me and I was thinking about all of the dust in the air.

Darkness approaches.

 

Sure enough when I looked out the window we couldn't see the mountains to the west of us. We could see the Imperial Sand Dunes all day but not the mountains behind. The dust in the air obscured them and only on occasions did we see hints of them, outlines in the murk. 

 

This is what it normally looks like. The tan ridge in the front is the Imperial Sand Dunes.

 

Only the dunes are visible today. A hint of the mountains behind but only a hint. Pretty much like this all day.

 

The sun was wonderful all day but temps reached 60F/15.5 C with a steady  north wind, with some bigger gusts this afternoon, so not a warm day by desert standards. Toward the hills way off in the distance we could some haze in the air as well. Steady wind would mean dust and I wasn't going to take the camera out for that. 

 

The tan of course is the Imperial Sand Dunes.

A day spent putzing and reading while doing some research on a few things as well. A nice day but we closed all the windows and vents for the day as it was chilly with the wind whipping in through them. 

 

Amazing how you can't see anything back behind the dunes, isn't it?

A rainy day.....

Our Location: Near Tonopah, Arizona

I woke this morning to the sound of pitter patter on the roof. The forecasted rain arrived right on schedule and I could see that the brightness in the sky wasn’t blue or bright, more of a dull iron grey colour. A phone call from my Insurance Agent back home at 7:30 AM had me pushing  myself out of bed. No issues just a few questions. Those answered I started doing my morning routine.

I can tell you the rest of the day was spent lounging around looking out the windows as they steamed over and unsteamed only to steam over again. The quick change in outside temperatures was like a roller coaster all day. The rain came, it stopped, it came back and stopped again. You get the idea right? At one point there was water laying on the ground and before long it was gone only to reappear and disappear. You get the idea. I read a little while, annoyed Riley for a little while, read some more, had a nap, etc. You know how it goes. The clouds shifted and the sky brightened, lines of blue appeared here and there but soon the clouds covered the sky once again and the day once again loomed dark and ugly. Thunder could be heard off in the distance but no lightning was around, or at least we never witnessed any.
 

A small patch but it was gone within a couple of minutes.

 

The water is gone again.

A call to my sister, we chatted for about an hour and it was nice to catch up. They are both feeling better although Rick is still not feeling great. He is a diabetic and having a hard time with his sugar right now. It is a never ending struggle for some and not so hard for others.

 

Looks brighter over there.... maybe, kind of...perhaps. No, just wishful thinking.

 

With a long, dark dreary day behind us, we have another one to look forward to tomorrow but after that it appears to be heading in an upward direction. Dry again but no let up, this was as bright as it got for the rest of the day.
