2nd post today....

Our Location:

North of MM 4, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

A much different day today. Rain overnight and some early this morning, very cool and damp today. Possibility of more rain later in the day. I do however see some blue sky peeking out here and there. Hopefully it clears up and things are warmer.

We were riding a ridge top. You can see it's not very smooth in the desert.

You can see the road way over to the right and a bit lower down.

We went over in the direction after a while.

We followed the ridge top for a long way.

Chatted with Janet last night for a while. Things are going well. Chatted with dad as well, seems like colder weather and more snow are on the way for them. Well it is still winter up there on the Rock.

So many layers and colours.

We eventually ended up driving not far from those lighter colours of sand. Long way to get there.

No photo can do this justice.

A bit of a wider view than the pic above.

More photos of my ride with Jerry. I hope you are enjoying the trip.

The roads were rough in places but the views made it all worth while.

Lots of cholla and ocotillos.

Rough country, glad I wasn't walking.

We are heading down that opening in the hills.

A quick storm rushed through this afternoon, lasted for about 15 minutes. The sky was very dark, the wind picked up quickly and the rain fell for about 30 seconds before it started to hail along with the rain. A few photos for you to see.

The white dots are hail.

You can see hail on the mat.

Lots of water fell in a short period.

You can see the water rushing by, not deep but fast.

Hail by the fire pit.

Until next time....

Take care, stay safe,

Deb

  2. You took some really beautiful pictures of your ride with Jerry. They say it was a wonderful experience and it sounds like you enjoyed it immensely. What a fun day!
That was some interesting weather you had out there. It rained here but a steady slow rain that never really accumulated. The question is was that hail or was it graupel after all you are in California....lol

    1. It was a very interesting ride, and I enjoyed it very much. Jerry is an excellent guide. It was a fun day and not nearly as dusty as I expected.
Hail…according to the weather statement issued. It was nothing snow related. It would have hurt if it hit you. Is graupel pain free? Lol

  3. You sure got different weather than us. It got warm here after the rain stopped at 10:30 but the wind did pick up later this afternoon.

    1. We had a bit of rain in the wee dark hours of the early morning and it was a bit cooler than it has been. The sun made an appearance a few times but just as the clouds rolled in it started getting cooler quickly, the rain, hail and all its coolness lasted about 15 minutes before it just started getting nicer again, warmer air, sun, but wind steadily picking up. A different day for sure.

  4. You had a different kind of day in the desert. Rain and hail. It is still pouring here in Phoenix area. Beautiful pictures of your ride with Jerry. I always like to see the mountains and trails wandering through the desert.

    1. You and me too. I always wonder where that trail goes and what I would find. Jerry is an excellent guide. I enjoyed the views. We didn’t get a lot of steady rain but it was short, hard and ugly. Lol.

  6. What Deb said ... grapple! LOL. Still spitting rain here, but thankfully no hail. I'm definitely ready for some sunshine.

    1. My spell checker did the same thing! Lol. Being a woman from Northern Ontario,Canada I am familiar with all forms of snow and ice. They may have had graupel at the rigs next door but we had hail here at the Igloo and the Dogsled. Lol. It was pounding way too hard on the windows/roof to be anything else.

  7. Hail while in the rig is an interesting event. While a gentle rain can be settling, hail usually has the opposite effect.

    1. You speak from experience I’m guessing. We’ve encountered hail a few times, never last long, 15 minutes at the most but some times those big pieces sound like they are coming in the roof or the window will shatter at the next hit. I would prefer a gentle rain, or even bright sunshine. Lol
