Photo kind of day......

Our Location: Saddle Mountain BLM, Tonopah, AZ

A hike today, round trip around 4.5 miles. Enjoy.

I figured out today that hiking here must be accomplished on a trail as the growth is too thick to climb safely otherwise. You cannot see the ground, the rocks, the holes and as it is very warm, you wouldn't be able to see any snakes either.

A very green arm near the above hole.

This one isn't going to make it.

That little smudge is the Igloo.

I originally started out in that direction but after walking for about a half mile I realized I had forgotten to put the SD card in the camera. I had to return to the Igloo to get it and so that was a mile even before I started taking photos. I opted for a shorter distance and will leave that area for another time.

That little white spot is the Igloo.

I believe that may be the Harquahala (Hark-wa-hall-a) Mountains way over there in the background.

Those rigs are parked further along to the west of us on Courthouse Road.

A few clouds in the sky made for a darker middle in this photo.

I'll have more photos in my next post. However I think this is enough for today. Thanks for stopping by.

Until next time.. take care, be safe,

Deb

  1. Isn't it just amazing how those cactus can keep growing with holes in their sides? Nice pictures and a perfect day for hiking.

    1. I am always amazed at what I see when I venture over to look at some saguaros. They often have gaping holes and are still a beautiful green everywhere except around the holes.

    1. Thanks Shirley. I was thinking that as well, which is why I stopped where I did. I felt safer getting back down and onto the road way. I'll be sticking to roads and trails from now on.

  3. That little round cactus looks like a tennis ball with sharp needles on it. Very pretty. I hadn't thought about snakes, but better remember when I leave here for Yuma's safety. It is getting quite warm already. I'm finally pretty much done with my cold and it seems you two are feeling much better too. Let's keep it that way. Enjoy your stay.

    1. They are actually numerous in some places, and I wonder if they are baby saguaros, but I don't know that. It's getting pretty warm around this area and I think it will be bringing the snakes out pretty quickly so from now on we will be limiting our hikes to roads only.

  4. The desert has so many interesting things to explore. Many things take some time to see but you obviously have the talent of finding them. Even a half dead cactus comes to life in your lens. Watch out for those nasty old snakes but remember to take pictures if you see one.

    1. You are right, there are so many things to see here in the desert and I enjoy seeing them through the lens as well as just walking among them. Thank you for the kind words. No snake photos, if I see one I'll be moving quickly to a new zip code and not taking the time to ask for any poses. Haha
