Tent, Kofa photos....

Our Location: Palm Canyon BLM, KOFA NWR, Arizona

A bit of a breeze this  morning as we started getting around with some plans to do at least one errand today, although there are a few we would like to accomplish. We rested yesterday, both of us being very tired for some reason and I have no idea why.

Driving through Box Canyon Road after leaving Truckhaven BLM, heading toward I-10 near Joshua Tree N. Park.

 Some pretty amazing views.

We didn't take too many photos though.

Today we wanted to check out the big tent, which we managed to do after finding a place to park the Dogsled. We parked at the end of La Posa West close to the big tent and walked. Lots of folks still around and the vendors are starting to get that glassy eyed look now. A quick tour through the big tent showed us there is nothing in there that is of any interest to us. We stopped at only one booth inside the tent, which was showing the ease of use of a wind screen, easy set up, easy take down, complete with carry bag, weight bags and spikes. We didn't buy one, we didn't price one, but we looked. Other than that we didn't find anything new and exciting for us.

We passed over the Colorado River as we moved from California to Arizona.

This is the view out the dining room window. I believe that is Kofa Mountain. The day was cloudy and dull.

Also out our dining room window. As are most of the photos you will see.

Our friends were not at the Passport American booth and although we didn't expect to see them, we thought we would know a few folks there, however it was folks we didn't manning it this year.

A splash of sunshine up there on the side of the mountain.

There is a fog or haze that comes stealing along just before dark and can be seen in the mornings as well. At times the mountains are not clear and for the most part, while I find them interesting, they don't call to me. I wonder why that is?

Our reason for going to tent is very simple, I want a bigger generator and one that is light weight, easy to start, quiet and does what we want it to, which isn't much. I was disappointed that only a couple of vendors were there with generators for sale. Last year there were at least 5 lining one aisle. I found one that I like but when I checked the prices on line I can find it for a better there. So we shall see what happens when I go back on Sunday.  I don't want them to give it away but I also don't want to be taken advantage of either.

We headed to a few vendors across the roadway, finding some nice plush blankets for spring and fall bed toppers. Riley also managed to find some Kettle Corn (which she loves) and other than that we headed back to the Dogsled and on back home. Enough crowds, enough smells and enough tight spaces for both of us.

The blast of sunshine in the foreground made the  mountain almost impossible to see in the shadows, clouds and darkness back there.

This photo was taken out the door, facing southward.

And then the sun broke through the cloud cover to light up the mountain.

We checked out a few other places to park that are of greater interest to us but we'll have to leave them for another year I think. Truthfully, the views are nice here, stunning at times and I'm sure the hikes would be great but the 'getting to and from' are not fun and therefore we have no desire to do a lot of things here that require using the Dogsled. Which of course pretty much everything will require except for a few desert hikes to check out the saguaros which I will be doing one of these days. No complaints, just making note for myself for future reference.

Yep, a very nice view indeed. The truck and trailer have now left and so we have no one in our view between us and the mountains.

Tomorrow we have errands to do as well but will head down Yuma way to do them. I checked it out and the errands we want to do will have to be done either in Parker or Yuma and the difference is 10 miles. With Yuma being the winner since then we won't have to travel through Q with it's stop and go and bumper to bumper roads.  Crazy drivers and Razors scooting in and out of places. The road to Yuma is one we've never travelled before as we always leave from the area of Indian Wells/Salton City which means we don't take AZ 95.

Stunning but it doesn't call call to me, it doesn't seem to hold much interest for me and I have no idea why not.

A bit of the sunset over there in the sky.

Today's photos were taken the day we travelled from California to Arizona. We arrived here on Tuesday, Jan 21.  The night photos of the mountain are stunning for sure.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed your day.

Until next time... take care, be safe,

  1. You have a good strategy by heading back to the vendors on Sunday. They may be willing to give great deals just so they don't have to pack their unsold stock back to their warehouse. Good luck!
That is sure a pretty mountain view you've found.
Yes, Yuma would be a better choice than Parker for shopping. Much more variety.

    1. Thanks Dave. That was my plan but now I think I'll by pass the tent on Sunday. Some other ideas have been pointed out to me and I think I'll give them some thought before I make any decisions. A new generator isn't a must, but it would be a nice luxury. However since we use it only two or three times a year I can always wait for next year.
We would have been heading to Yuma except we changed our minds on the errands we actually need to accomplish. So I guess a drive down AZ 95 still won't be happening for us.

  2. Good choice going to Yuma instead of Parker. I bet the traffic in Q is horrible right now!

    1. Yeah the traffic is a bit crazy in Q right now but not terribly, terribly bad. Although plans have changed and we didn't go to Yuma either but that would have been our direction for sure.

  3. Yes those are the Kofa Mountains alright and we have many great memories from the area you are in. The Kofa's are my favorite but you are right about getting to them. Washboard roads can rattle the very fillings out of anyone's teeth. With our Jeep we were fortunate enough to get up to them right inside them. Been through the big tent a few times and share your thoughts about it. Yes Yuma is your better choice and you will come out near Yuma's east end Walmart, etc. We have always really liked the Yuma Palms mall at Yuma's west end right off I-8. Seen a few movies at the theater complex there. 'Best Buy' has also jerked some money from our wallets over the years.

    1. I think if I could find one thing that pulls me I would enjoy the Kofa Mountains but so far, nothing tweaks, which is very odd for me. The road may be a factor as I find it very bone jarring no matter what speed I go. A couple of rigs actually sat for about 5 minutes on the road just past our little turn off, I think they were debating about turning around. I thought they might camp there for a while. Haha.
We would have headed to Yuma had we not changed our plans and stayed home but perhaps another time we will make down AZ 95.
The tent for us, has little appeal and I am not certain we will return another year. We stopped last year to see our friends that worked a booth and this year was a search for a generator but unless it's something I'm sure I want to purchase, I think we've visited the tent for the last time.

  4. Any way you look at it, those mountains are beautiful. The big tent never held much for me, but I always liked to look anyway. They just might have something completely ridiculous and expensive that calls my name! Enjoy Yuma!!

    1. I don't deny the beauty of the Kofa Mountains, but they have no appeal for me. Usually I'm always excited about seeing around the bend, or over the next hill or following a path but not this time.
The tent is an interesting place to visit. It's like New Orleans (which I love and have visited many, many times over the years), it's something everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime. Unlike New Orleans, the tent is not calling me back. Haha

  5. Beautiful mountain photos. I didn't realize you have never travelled on Hwy. 95. I hope you enjoy it. Looks like another beautiful day in the neighborhood.

    1. There is definitely a beauty in those mountains and I am sure they offer fascinating things to see but I have no interest. No pull. How odd for me.
Nope, never been all the way along 95, although we've been on it from Q north towards Parker a number of times.
It is indeed another beautiful day in the neighbourhood.
