Dentist appointments….

Our Location:

Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

A good night for sleeping with the windows open and some of the blankets off. A slight breeze keeping it cool enough to be comfortable but not breezy or cold enough to shut the windows or pull the extra blanket back up.

The dentist office is at the end of Snowbird Alley.

Riley and I were out the door a few minutes before 8 am. We had trash to dump and an appointment in Mexico at 9. We made it with plenty of time to spare. Our destination was the dentist, we were both scheduled for a cleaning. We were both in and out by about 9:45 am. The price was a very reasonable $80 USD. It’s not the deeper cleaning we get back home but that is fine.

A very cute tree.

I really like that picture.

We met Deb and Tom (Celebrating the Dance) at the prearranged corner pretty much right at 10:00 am. Very good timing. The four of us settled in for breakfast, some chatter and a few laughs. A quick stop at the pharmacy, a short walk and by noon we headed back to the border. No line to speak of, very quick and easy, a friendly Customs Officer and we were across. We parted company in the parking lot, each of us heading off in our direction. Riley and I off to get some fuel and food stuffs.

Pretty chairs too. Not quite comfortable nor uncomfortable.

Back home I had a quick chat with both Ken and Kim, separately as they happened to wander by at different times. After that it was inside for the rest of the evening.

A very clean and appealing waiting room.

Sitting on the counter. I think it’s very cute.

Riley’s feeling much better, still a cough and a bit stuffy but doing better everyday.

Until next time….

Take care, stay safe,

Deb

A Jeep ride…..

Our Location:

Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

A warm night, windows open, lots of stars too. Even started the day in shorts right off. I chatted with my sister while having my coffee. She had a great day at the Saturday market, selling over half her stock. Congrats sister dearest.

Gerry and Elva.

We went through a couple of tunnels.

Deb and Tom headed out first to attend church, and by 8:30 am Ken and I were head headed out in their little black car. Riley and Kim both staying home due to being a bit under the weather. We had plans to go jeep riding.

The Naked Date.

More views of the Naked Date.

Tom and Deb (top pic), Gerry and Ken ( bottom pic).

A leisurely drive to Wellton had Ken and I arriving at Gerry and Elva’s place around 10 am. Deb and Tom arriving a short time later. We all sat around chatting for a bit. It is always great to see these folks!

Baker’s tank.

Before long we headed out for a Jeep ride, Gerry, Ken and I riding in Elva’s Jeep with Deb and Tom riding their Jeep.  Gerry is always an excellent guide, thanks again, it was a fun ride! We stopped at The Naked Date for lunch and from there we were off along the levee for a while.

More tank photos

Back to Gerry and Elva’s for a few minutes and then off home.  We see John and Brenda are back, welcome back folks. After climbing out of Ken’s car I went home and stayed inside for the rest of the night.

Ken enjoyed climbing around for a while.

Always interesting to see these old relics.

Chatted with dad for a bit, lots of wet miserable weather up there on our Little Rock in the middle of Lake Huron. It’s been a couple of days already and not looking much better for a number of days ahead.

Some of our Jeep views.

Thanks for dropping by, I hope you enjoyed the ride.

Until next time…..

Take care, stay safe,

Deb

A short walk in the wash …….

Our Location:

Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

It was a bit breezy but nice today. I will admit I didn’t do much of anything but I don’t think I have it finished yet. I think there may be a few more days just like it in the future.

Washes are not the same, even a few feet can change them but this one is very easy walking.

Some of the things you see in or near a wash.

I spent a little time walking in a wash just taking some pics of anything that caught my attention. The rest of the morning Deb D and I just visited in some comfy chairs beside the Dogsled out of the wind. The others were all doing their own things. Riley is less congested and is on the mend but stayed inside all day out of the breeze.

Lots of dead trees in every wash. The bottom right we called the Hanging Tree last year.

From a distance it looked like a skunk, but up close, an old tire.

We all ( less Riley ) came together for happy hour, once again we all tucked in beside the Dogsled to keep out of the breeze. It being day 4 of our 12 days of Christmas, Ken and Kim supplied chilli for us. It was excellent. Thanks folks. Darkness found us all heading home as the night air brings on the coughing that seems to be going around our home dirt.

Top left, bud from a barrel cactus, the others are barrel cactus.

A prickly pear, not pretty until you look closely.

Back home brother Rick and SIL Barb celebrated their family Christmas. It was the only day they could all gather. Merry Christmas guys. I know the feast was excellent and the laughter easy and often. I also know the love and caring was present and obvious. Rick, Barb; Nicole,Steve, Isabell, Seth, and Hazel; Jason, Leah, Hudson and Lainey; Jesse, Claudia and Hali, Dad; we are sorry we missed you all gathered together But we know you had a great time, Merry Christmas all.

Journey, Dogsled and Igloo, Stinger B and the baby B.

Sunset, Sat, Dec 16.

Pretty pink over the Cargo Muchacho Mountains.

My sister Jan worked a craft show, selling handmade Christmas ornaments. She is very crafty and does lovely work. I’m sure she did very well and had a great time doing it!

Until next time…..

A quiet day here in the southwest….

Our Location:

Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

A quiet day here at our home dirt, I popped into Fry’s for a few things for today’s happy hour. Riley stayed home as she is still battling this sinus cold. She is doing better but the lingering cough is not fun.

Kim, Tom, Deb D,

As I was heading into town I noticed John and Brenda were packing up and getting ready to head out. I didn’t stop as I didn’t want to interrupt the process, we all know how difficult that is. They were gone when I came home. We wish them safe travels and good times.

Ken and Riley.

Happy hour was a quiet affair, due to a bit of a breeze and cooler temps we enjoyed our third day of Christmas in the Igloo with some cheese, crackers and wine.  It was nice being able to host as the Igloo is now spacious enough for us to do so.

Sorry, we already started eating…
With a moveable island we can place it anywhere.

Until next time…

Take care, be safe,

Deb

A trip to Mexico….

Our Location:

Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

Don’t you just love when a plan comes together? Of course you do, and so do I. Blue skies, warm temperatures and good friends, a great day. A perfect plan.

Deb D, Tom, Ken and Kim..

John, Brenda and Riley, all at the little outdoor cantina.

The six of us climbed into the Dogsled this morning at 10:30 am and headed down the pathway toward John and Brenda’s (John and Brenda’s Incredible Adventure) place. We noted that they too were climbing into their big truck and falling in behind us. We headed off to Los Algodones.

Tom, John and Ken.

Deb D brought us some special napkins.

We had an incredible day, much laughter, a few drinks, some food, a little shopping and a short wait in line at the border crossing. Back home around 4:30 pm we all came together for happy hour with John and Brenda also dropping in for a little more visiting. Darkness and cool night temps had us all saying our goodbyes, see you down the road to John and Brenda as they head off on the next part of their adventure. We have enjoyed getting to know them better in the last few days and look forward to having our paths cross again in the future! Safe travels friends.

Only three this fly over…

We called it a night not long after they departed. We of course I think you should know by now means Deb and Tom as well as Ken and Kim, Riley and I.  Riley was tired after Mexico and missed HH. She is battling a sinus issue.

Goodnight from Ogilby Road.

Until next time…..

Take care, stay safe,

Deb

Change of plans and friends drop in…

Our Location:

Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

A nice night, a bit cool but we are sleeping with either a window or a vent open at nights and leaving windows and vents open all day until the sun goes down. It’s tough in the southwest in the winter!

Tom, Deb D, John and Brenda

A bit of a cold bug has been hanging out in the neighbourhood and so our Wednesday plans changed. We all did our own thing, some into town, some stayed home but at happy hour we all managed to come together for some chatter! A big white Ford came rolling in just as we were getting started and out popped John and Brenda ( John and Brenda’s Incredible Adventure ) to add more excitement to happy hour. A good time was had by all. We enjoyed the visit and made future plans with the our fellow Canadians.

Kim, Ken, Tom, Deb D.

Today, Thursday, Dec 13 we would like to wish a Happy Anniversary to Deb and Tom ( Celebrating the Dance). They provided all things for happy hour today before heading off for a nice dinner in Yuma.

And off they go back home, about 90 seconds away.

Ken and Kim ( Journey with Ken and Kim) and I continued happy hour for a while at the Igloo. Riley is battling a sinus cold and stayed inside. As dark descended we all went home and will catch up with everyone tomorrow. As I said, it’s a tough life here in the desert southwest, aren’t you glad we are suffering through it for you?

Until next time…

Take care, stay safe,

Deb

A walk to the Cargos….

Our Location:

Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

Not the best nights sleep but I was still out the door by 7:15 am and my feet carried me across the desert floor to the copper mine I found last year. I once again found my way easily and managed to make it there and back in about 2 hours, over 12,000 steps. I was happy to be home.

The greenish colour is oxidization. Very colourful, don’t you think?

The walk is long but it was interesting.

A coffee while resting in the sun and then we headed off to town for a few errands. A stop at Fry’s grocery store, some diesel and we were back home in time for happy hour.

Sunrise.

Some of the views on my stroll.

We parted ways again just as the sun dropped below the horizon and all headed inside to do our own stuff. Plans are afoot for tomorrow though.

The Imperial Sand Dunes in the morning sun.

Looking back toward home from the path to the mine.

We are parked out there.

I took this on my homeward bound trek, but that is where I walked to the mine.

Today’s pics were all taken this morning before 9:30 am. I hope you enjoy the stroll.

Until next time……

Take care, stay safe,

Deb
