A long travel day, but blue skies and warmth..... a sad call from home...

Our Location: Crosbyton City Park, Crosbyton, TX

A very quiet night in Bonham, TX until around 3 am, then the dump trucks started moving around. No complaints, it went from very quiet to mostly quiet and we managed a good night’s sleep. The recently closed Fireworks store was located on Hwy 56 heading out of Bonham toward Sherman.

Water towers we took note of today.
The  morning was crisp, about 45 F/ 7.2 C but nice. The sun was shining again and the sky was blue and not a cloud to be seen. We pulled out around 8:15 am heading west on Hwy 56 to the small town of Ector, Tx where we dropped down a bit to catch US 82 West again. The rest of the day was spent tooling along this road, 4 lane in some places and 2 lane in other places. Non eventful, a little bit scenic toward the end of the day but otherwise a pretty boring day.

Love the chicken in the first picture, the second is a sign in the town of Nocona.
We bucked a head wind all day and the Big Dog slurped up the diesel like it was water. I found some very cheap diesel at $2.75 per gallon. I really like those prices.

Road signs along our route.
We arrived here at the park around 2:40 pm and by the time we finished setting up it was shortly after 3 pm. Once again we are having an issue with the Asian Beetle and no matter how many we get rid of there are still many, many, many left. I’m sure some are a new generation since Tennessee as some of them seem to be very small in size. Oh well, we will eventually get rid of them.

Christmas decorations are up already in some of the small towns.
The high temperature today reached 72 F/ 22.2 C. A very nice day. By 4 pm I called my dad to tell him we’d arrived and managed to chat with his answering machine. I’ll call him later tonight just to touch base. Always enjoy chatting with him. Last night I chatted with daughters Courtney and Bradey, in Toronto and Hamilton respectively, both reported snow from a light dusting to a several inches/centimeters.  Talked to friend Linda in Lively and she also reported winter like conditions. Talked with dad last night as well and he too reported winter weather. So it seems that Ontario is under snow at this time.

At the roadside in front of a house.

We settled in, opening doors and windows, enjoying the warmth. Had some late lunch or early dinner before we settled in for the evening. I’m going to catch up on my blog reading and Riley is going to watch a movie. A nice quiet evening. Tomorrow we have plans to go into Lubbock for some groceries but will remain here in Crosbyton until Monday.

A working oil rig surrounded by such green grass.
Today we travelled approximately 300 miles, it took us about 7 hours with a few stops to stretch, and just take a break. We travelled US 82 which is in pretty good condition with a few rough spots but over all a nice drive. Again a lot of truck traffic pushing us along. Some nice rest/picnic areas on this route. A bit rolling in a few places but not for overly long at any stretch. Lots of little towns along the way that would be of interest on a shorter travel day.

A call from my sister as I finished this post telling me that one of Dad's brother's passed only a short time ago. Arthur was the third oldest brother, he's been sick for some time now but only in the last few weeks he has been confined to the hospital until they could had an opening in a nursing home. He is the first of my father's siblings to pass, while my mother and all her siblings have passed. Amazing how that happens.

A road side park we stopped at for a stretch.
Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed your visit.
Another road side stop with picnic areas.

Until next time…. take care, be safe,

Sunset out side our door tonight.

    1. Thanks George. It was a good travel for us. We usually don't travel that far in a day but we wanted to get here. The nice weather lasted for a day. I think maybe we're bring the bad weather with us.
