Happy Canada Day, Happy 4th of July....

Our Location:

Near South Baymouth, Manitoulin Island, Ontario, Canada

Hello, I hope all of our fellow Canadians had a joyous Canada Day and the our US friends all have a grand 4th of July tomorrow.

We call these Devil's Paint Brush.

The road sides are brilliant with colours!

Tiger Lily.

There is beauty here!

Things have been pretty hot and humid here on our Rock. We have a fire ban for the entire Sudbury, North Shore, Manitoulin Island region. It has been in place for about a month now and it doesn't look like it will end any time soon. No rain in the forecast!

From a distance this looks just white. Queen Anne's Lace!

Wild Strawberries.

Wild Roses.

A large patch of wild roses.

We've been busy working (our little summer jobs), doing some work around a summer spot, getting caught up with family, and appointments, etc. I have been trying hard to keep up with your blogs but I will admit I don't read them everyday but I do comment from time to time. It's nice to see most of you home and keeping busy! I have enjoyed the views of the travelers that have ventured out during the summer season. Thanks for sharing them with all of us.

Morning dew is often very heavy.

A small patch of wild strawberries.

I love the vibrant colour.

It's not in bloom yet but it's promising.

Birthday wishes to sister Jan (June 25). A great sister and wonderful friend. We chat often and visit back and forth on a regular basis. The winters are spent catching up on the phone and visits tend to be long! Birthday wishes also to co-worker Amanda (June 22). A nice young lady that loves cats and dogs. She is foster mom to more than a few cats! Happy Birthday to Uncle Percy (June 24). He is actually my great uncle, half brother to my grandfather! Happy Anniversary to brother Rick and his beautiful bride Barb (June 23). We spend many mornings with coffee cups in hand and it's something I miss over the winter months! A special note of kindness from my Uncle Don, he and his lovely wife Joan granted us use of their Suzuki Quad runner for our stay here. Very kind and we appreciate it very much.

Today's photos are of various flowers along the roadside! I hope you enjoy them.

Until next time...

Take care, stay safe,

Deb

A trip to Tumco ........

Our Location:

North of MM 4, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

Riley and I were lazy this morning and didn't head out for our walk until the clock was closer to 9 than to 8 am. We walked toward American Girl Mine Road and reached the outer fringes before turning around and heading back home. We both had over 6500 steps before we were back home.  Only a short piece was difficult walking, the rest was pretty good. Riley stopped at home but I slipped over to the White Lion to check on Doug & Yuma.  Doug and I chatted for some time before I left him with a decision about what we should do today. His choice and he chose to use the Dogsled and go to Tumco. So that's what we did, Doug, Yuma and I, Riley opted to stay home. I think a wise choice in hindsight.

Last night's moon rising.

That same moon this morning on it's way down. Taken through my window.

As the moon was going down, the sun was coming up.

The drive is about 4 miles from home and before long we were out of the Big Dog and heading off through the desert floor. Doug remembered seeing a big hole in the side of a mountain with a cage barring the door so you can't get in, he said the hole was big enough to drive a truck into. He's positive it was here at Tumco. I didn't recall it, and I've walked a fair amount there but none the less, off we went with Yuma in the lead. We wandered around for a long time, up hill, down hill, over hill, around hill, you get the idea. We searched and searched but came home empty handed, no big hole that a truck could get into. Lots of shafts that go straight down with cages over them, and a smaller cave like hole but nothing that he remembered.

Doug, Yuma and I visited here today.

We believe these are graves. There are two cemeteries in this small area.

This is just sand but beaten, wind blown and hardened by the sun.

It was a nice long hike and I enjoyed the views but it was too long for both of us and I think we are both going to be paying for today's adventure for a day or two.  I walked 6 miles/ 9.7 km which is just under 16,000 steps, so far and it's only shortly after 4 pm. It took me a little under 3 hours to do that. It was not all at once of course, my first  6500 steps were my morning walk. However I enjoyed the walk and I hope you enjoy the photos.

Doug was concentrating on something.

Inside one of the holes in the sand banks.

I'm sure some of you are tired of these kinds of photos but they fascinate me. The rock is paper thin.

Talked to my dad last night, he had an early appointment in Espanola and so stopped at the Centennial Manor on his way home to visit his friend Marion, who had a birthday yesterday, she turned 94. He was there when the flowers Riley and I ordered were delivered, they apparently made her day a bit brighter and gave her a reason to smile. Since that was the purpose of sending them, they accomplished their goal.

We found this opening and of course the two fellas had to go in, but not me.

Blurry but you get the idea.

It's very stark but very pretty.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed your visit.

If you want to see more photos of today's hike, come back tomorrow. I'll post some more.

Until next time...

Take care, be safe,

Able to post today...

Our Location: Saddle Mountain BLM, Tonopah, AZ

Belated Happy Valentines Day to all.

I accidentally pulled my charge cord out of the wall while turning in my chair and now it only works when it feels like working and I've been playing around with it to get it to work today but it not may work often so I'll take advantage of it while I can.  I have a couple on order from Amazon but will be playing with this one until they arrive, which should be Thursday or Friday (if all goes well). So my postings may be sporadic.

I posted a photo of this one last year as well. The word,' Lean on me, when your not strong' come to  mind.

I went for a walk the other day.

I didn't climb up there this year but I liked the appearance.

Wind hollowed recesses in the rocks.

I went for a bit of a walk the other day and took a number of photos. The mountains behind us are so very green, greener than I've ever seen them. Lots of growth, the growth is so thick that it obscures the ground in many places and one must be very watchful of ones steps while climbing.

My favourite mountain view in this area.

Doug and Yuma left yesterday around lunch time. We will of course miss them but it's a wonderful thing for them to be off on their own now. The White Lion looked happy to be off with the little silver jeep in tow. A few honks of the horn and we waved as we watched them motor off along Courthouse heading west. I'm sure they will both be very happy with their new home and I'm sure once they get used to it, they will enjoy the ride, the views and the space. Doug was feeling much better yesterday and I do believe he will back to his old self in the next day or two. He experienced a 'man cold' the past 8 or 9 days.  Before he left Doug showed up with a handful of 'everlasting' flowers and more words of thanks for our help. We were happy to do so, it's what friends do.

 Doug, Yuma and Riley.

 Everlasting flowers.

Doug, Yuma, the White Lion and the jeep heading out yesterday.

I've pretty much recovered from my cough, Riley is a day or two away from being over hers as well. We have a few things we'd like to accomplish in this area during the beginning of the week and once we pick up my Amazon package we will be heading out in a bit of a south easterly direction.

I used my zoom lens (forgot to put on the other one before I left, so no panoramic shots). From the top left side and working to the lower right side of the photo there is the White Lion and silver Jeep, next is a fella named Vaughn and his nice black pick up in the middle, last is the Dogsled and the Igloo.

I love this mountain. It is always an eye catcher.

I don't recall which day I walked up behind us into the very edge of the Saddle Mountains, and I do mean the very edge. Return trip was less than 3 miles but I enjoyed the fresh air, and the views.  I'll share a few more photos next time.

I didn't even try to climb up there this year. That green is over knee high and includes various types of growth, grass included.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you all have been having a great few days.

Until next time.... take care, be safe,

Deb
