This morning we had plans to head east toward the Saddle Mountain area looking for a better place to park without flies. The Little Black Limo motored along carrying the Deb's, Tom and Riley, while the Little Silver Streak carried Doug and Yuma. I won't bore you with the details but we found some interesting places with the draw back being no or spotty cell service. They are a little off the main path but still would be a nice place to park for a few days if you can do without cell service.
I love the cloud play on the Harquahala Mountains.
A beautiful view to park here but little to no cell service. The view is stunning. Literally a forest of saguaros.
A few of the photos I took today are in tonight's post and I will be using the others as the days go on and I need some photos. The views were wonderful and the saguaros couldn't be photographed if I had a few years to do it. Lots of cholla and even some Ocotillos, some green but most not. A few cattle, a few rigs, lots of cloud shadows on the mountains.
A very roller coaster like road.... Saguaros every where we looked. Amazing how different they all are.
We stopped in Salome for lunch at Don's Cactus Cafe. A very nice little spot, the food was very good, the place was clean and I would go back again. From there we headed on home, stopping in Q for a few minutes and we arrived home just in time for happy hour.
The clouds always make the mountains more interesting.
A call to my dad, cold weather and of course wind there too. He and brother Rick are off to Jesse's to pick a tractor that won't run or won't run well. It will give them something to do on those days that they can't be outside but don't wish to be stuck in the house.
Chauffeur Tom drove us up to the top of this big hill, below us was the next photo. |
We were parked on the top of that ridge way up there. |
I hope you enjoyed the views! Thanks for stopping by.
Until next time....
Take care, stay safe,
Deb
Beautiful pics of the saguaro. Nice to seem them filling out. I'm sure you keep an eye on your local weather, it's gonna be ugly again here Saturday, hope you have better.
ReplyDeleteThe saguaros are always beautiful, even in death, they offer up a beauty that is unequaled. I think the next while is just going to be ugly everywhere and we need to just put up with it.

It was a nice quiet day here but quite lovely. A break from the wind.
ReplyDeleteA slight breeze on our ride but it was cold, we all had jackets on.

Great pics & beautiful terrain; perhaps for next year consider a cellular booster with exterior antenna on your trailer— would certainly allow increased potential camp sites.Enjoy & all the best.
ReplyDeleteThanks, it is beautiful out here. Yes I have considered the idea of a booster for a number of years. I had one for a while but I don't think it really did much in the way of boosting the signal. We actually have very good coverage with just a few pockets that are spotty but it's not just our carrier that is spotty so I'm not convinced a booster would help in those areas anyway. I can live without staying in those areas.

When we left Q we stopped by Brenda to see some friends. That too is a beautiful area.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many places to potentially stay one could drive themselves nuts trying to decide!
Brenda seems to be popping up a lot in the last few days and it was an interesting place to see. I agree about too many choices so we like the tried and true that we know with a little new mixed in from time to time. I hope your weather is good for your travels!!! It seems to be ugly pretty much everywhere. Safe travels!!

Interesting structure. Any idea what it was? It's such a beautiful area ... and quiet!!!
ReplyDeleteI"m guessing it was a mine shaft (straight down) that has been filled in with the tailings from the digging. That's a guess but it just looks too flat on top to be anything but man made. The growth is all down below on the valley floor and the surrounding hills have saguaros and such growing but not this one. Which leads me to think the operation was in the last 75 years or so. However it is a guess.

I like those sweeping panoramic photos and big Arizona skies.
ReplyDeleteSo do I. The views are always beautiful and the cameras never do them justice.
