A jeep ride to the east....

 

 

Our Location: 

Road Runner BLM, Quartzsite, Arizona

 

This morning we had plans to head east toward the Saddle Mountain area looking for a better place to park without flies. The Little Black Limo motored along carrying the Deb's, Tom and Riley, while the Little Silver Streak carried Doug and Yuma. I won't bore you with the details but we found some interesting places with the draw back being no or spotty cell service. They are a little off the main path but still would be a nice place to park for a few days if you can do without cell service.  

 

I love the cloud play on the Harquahala Mountains.

The view is stunning.

Literally a forest of saguaros.

A few of the photos I took today are in tonight's post and I will be using the others as the days go on and I need some photos. The views were wonderful and the saguaros couldn't be photographed if I had a few years to do it. Lots of cholla and even some Ocotillos, some green but most not. A few cattle, a few rigs, lots of cloud shadows on the mountains.

We stopped in Salome for lunch at Don's Cactus Cafe. A very nice little spot, the food was very good, the place was clean and I would go back again. From there we headed on home, stopping in Q for a few minutes and we arrived home just in time for happy hour. 

 

The clouds always make the mountains more interesting.

 

A call to my dad, cold weather and of course wind there too. He and brother Rick are off to Jesse's to pick a tractor that won't run or won't run well. It will give them something to do on those days that they can't be outside but don't wish to be stuck in the house. 

 

Chauffeur Tom drove us up to the top of this big hill, below us was the next photo.

We were parked on the top of that ridge way up there.

A jeep ride, meeting some fellow Canadians....

This morning around 10:30 am Doug, Yuma and I headed out in his jeep for a ride back toward the mountains. It was a leisurely drive and we stopped often to take a few pictures, climb a few hills and take in the views. I hope you enjoy the photos I'm sharing. 

 

Quartzsite is over that way.

Doug and I came across this claim sign.

Even in death the Teddy Bear cactus is beautiful.

A warmer day today and very little wind. The temperatures reached about 75F/24C this afternoon, perfect for sitting outside chatting with some new friends and some other well known ones as well.  While Riley and I were having lunch Dave and Cheryl from Alberta, Canada drove up and not 15 minutes later Bill (  On our way....)and Patsy ( Chillin' with Patsy...)from Ontario, Canada showed up. They all settled into the front yard of the Stinger B chatting with Deb, Tom ( Celebrating the Dance   ) and Doug ( Miss Adventures Travels  ). After lunch Riley and I joined them. The chatter was non stop and the afternoon passed very quickly and soon they were saying their goodbyes, Dave and Cheryl first and soon after Bill and Patsy. We have plans for another meeting in the near the future, so the parting wasn't a final one for this season.

Another jeep ride...

  

Our Location: 

North of MM 4, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

After Riley and I made it home from our walk this morning, we both headed over to the Stinger B to have coffee with Deb & Tom (Celebrating the Dance   ) and Doug ( Miss Adventure Travels  ). We all headed off home after a couple of cups of coffee. 

This morning out the door....

the sun is lighting up the sky....

and the sun pops over the mountains.

Doug and I ended up taking his jeep back toward the mountains to where I thought I seen some turquoise but I don't believe it is, I think it's copper content in the rock that has oxidized. Anyway, we drove part way and walked part way. Ended up talking to a couple from British Columbia. After our little chat Doug and I took off in the jeep and eventually after going up this wash, down that one, around another corner and back again, we ended up turning around and going back the way we came. We made it home in time for happy hour with Deb & Tom. 

 

Coffee this morning at the Stringer Bee......

I think it's oxidized copper content.

Doug always has to enter any cave he sees.

Very dangerous to climb up there.

 

A chat with my dad tonight. He told me they have about 6 inches of snow and more on the way. Not extremely cold but not exactly warm either.

I counted a dozen barrel cactus along this piece of the mountain side.

Meeting a fellow Canadian and a jeep ride.....

 

Our Location: 

MM 91-90 SB AZ 95, near Quartzsite, Arizona

 

A very nice but chilly morning, Riley and I were out the door to get our steps in before the heat started but were taking off extra sweaters before we got back home. It was a nice way to the start the day. 

 

Ivan stopped by this morning!

We noticed this burned out rig on our jeep ride today.

This old fella is pretty gnarled but still hanging on.

Doug, Yuma and I were just getting ready to head out for a jeep ride toward the Tower Hill area of the Kofa Mountains when a big dark blue GMC truck came cruising back toward us. A tall, lean fella climbed out and smiled at us, Ivan ( Roadtrip ) had found us. It was very nice to meet him, I've followed his blog for a lot of years and can now put a face to the words. His sidekick HRH Miss Hailey, his three legged kitty was at home keeping the rig safe. A very nice chat with us all sitting in the sun next to the White Lion, it was a great morning!! 

 

 

It was pretty rugged looking in some places.

After Ivan headed off to run his errands, Doug ( Miss Adventure Travels  ), Yuma and I headed out for a jeep ride toward Tower Hill in the Kofa Mountain Wildlife Refuge. Riley opted not to come along, too rough for her. It was a long ride, but some nice scenery along the way. We both agreed it wouldn't be a ride we'd take again though. A few rough spots had us bouncing and at least once we needed 4 wheel low to get us out of a tight spot. We left around 12:30 and made it back around 4:30 pm. We managed to meet on the road Ivan as we coming out and he was heading home! Thanks Doug!!
