Visiting friends today.....

A warm night for sleeping and we enjoyed the quiet once more. This is a great place to rest and catch up on our sleep. 

Winding our way down the country roads today.

With the morning skies overcast and a chance of rain in the offing we didn’t really know what we wanted to do today. So after a quick walk I contacted George & Suzie (Our Awesome Travels) to see about getting together today.

After a quiet morning Riley and I climbed into the Dogsled to head north to Wapakoneta for a happy hour with George & Suzie. The windy road lead us across the country side and within a short time we were pulling up to the campground security gate. Before long we were parked and chatting with George & Suzie. Thanks folks for the movies and the books. We appreciate them very much. Riley & I enjoyed the afternoon a great deal and before we knew it the clock was reading 5 pm and time for us to go home. 

The skies were overcast today.

 Back at home we slipped into the campground and settled down for the evening of watching a movie or two. The perfect end to a nice day.

Coolish, windy over cast day....

Our Location: Las Cienegas Grasslands, Sonoita, AZ

 

(yesterday's post) 

A warmish morning but over cast skies was the rule for most of the day until late in the afternoon as the sun was almost behind the snow capped peaks out our window. The blue sky was quickly changed to night sky. Temps didn't get much above the high 50's/ 13 -14 C all day. 

 

Looks like a little Saguaro perhaps.

Riley and I headed out in separate directions for our walks. She once again made it to the cattle guard at the Ranch House Headquarters and I put in my 4 miles walking along the cow trails through some grasslands. I was slow but enjoyed the walk, about an hour and a half for me today.

This started just at the edge of a road way. They appear to just begin, with no hint of a water way. I believe this  may be called a gulch.

The wind continued to increase all throughout the day, we debated about bringing in the big slide to stop the topper from flapping so hard but about the time we made the decision the wind just stopped. Didn't slacken, just stopped. Odd how that happens out here. Even with a rope over the topper it flapped a great deal.

I followed these pink ribbons, I think they are in preparation for trail rides for the weekend of the horse show.

 

As you can see it's a dreary day, with no sunlight. I followed that slim trail you can see at the bottom of the photo.

 

A chat with my dad this afternoon, he assures me that more snow is in the forecast but the temperatures are warming to -5 C/ 23 F with the chance of it getting above the freezing mark which will mean rain instead of snow. Woo hoo....spring is coming to the great white frozen north. Maybe. 

This is the biggest tree I've seen for a while. Since leaving the east side of the Mississippi River maybe.

After following pink ribbons along the cow path I eventually came out to the roadway.

 

So a quiet day for us, we discussed our homeward route again and are looking forward to seeing some new country on this year's homeward journey. We also chatted about our return route next fall, a bit early but always nice to have a plan stewing in one's mind. Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed your visit.

Saguaro picture day...

Our Location: Near Tonopah, Arizona

 

A better night's sleep last night, I didn't wake up until the clock was pushing 6 AM. I'll take that without complaint. Not as cool this morning as it has been lately so we're happy about that as well. 

 

This is the most bizarre Saguaro I've ever seen.

 

Out the door for a walk around 9:30 AM had me deciding I'd stick to the roadway's running around the area and I did mostly only heading across country a time or two and not far. Today's pictures were all taken with my phone. I may actually go back with the camera another day and take some better ones but at least you get an idea. Today's pictures are all Saguaro cactus as well. 

 

I bet some of you laughed at the first picture! I did. That's the same cactus in both photos. What a difference angle makes. In the second photo I see an adult with a small child in their arms and they are pointing at something. I won't tell you what I saw in the first photo.

 I wandered around the road ways finding some interesting places to see and things to check out, I learned a bit as well. I'm always happy to learn things. Next I'll take the Dogsled for a ride back to the area that I learned the most about and see if we like it there. Maybe next time in the area we'll have a better place to park although this one is pretty good!

I am feeling more like myself today and I think tomorrow I'll be back to even more of my regular feeling self. Last week I wanted to have a drink, a Vodka Cooler in fact and the arthritis medication I take in a once weekly dose does not allow me to drink. I just skipped the regular dose last week so I could have a drink. The medication makes me semi nauseous anyway and I think the lack of a top up last week made me more nauseous than usual.  So I guess I'll not be doing that any more.

The sky never really showed much promise of any good weather today and the wee bit of blue sky that managed to peek out for 2 minutes was only a tease. A few raindrops fell tonight as I chatted with my dad to see how things were doing. They had 40 + cm/ 15 + inches of snow between Monday night and this morning. A couple more inches fell this afternoon after they finished clearing the other snow. Such fun stuff, moving all that white stuff.  Dad called it an old fashioned winter. He also mentioned my sister in law Barb and her sister Connie have been delayed on returning from their DR holiday since 7:30 AM this morning. They have been delayed three times and it seems the next scheduled time to leave is 3:30 AM. What a long delay and she had no explanation as to the reason or at least she didn't give one to Rick. Connie's husband Chad was to pick them up at the Sudbury airport but now with the delay Barb's son Jason will be picking them up instead. Safe flight ladies!!

 

A wart is a wart.

 

Riley baked some more cookies today, good cookies of course. She was at it when I arrived back home from my walk. I think she's becoming more settled here after a bit of anxiety earlier this winter, and the baking is helping to reach that more relaxed state. I noted she added bananas to the shopping list, so I see more banana bread in the future. That's okay, I like banana bread. 

 

Can you see her hiding her face in the right hand photo? I think she's embarrassed by all the growths.

 

So that was our day, nothing exciting but it was nice and we enjoyed it. A quiet, calm day here in our little neighbourhood. The forecast is calling for rain tonight and tomorrow so we shall see if it actually arrives. Doesn't really matter tomorrow is a day full of chores for us. Laundry, water, groceries, and a look see in a couple of stores. We are both looking forward to a day in town. 

 

If you keep moving we're going to faaaaalllllll......

A few errands....

I will admit I just completely forgot to do a post last night, well no that's not quite right, I forgot until after I was in bed, when I suddenly remembered. So this is a bit late, sorry about that. 

 

I believe this is Wisteria...

 The morning was nice, but a few sprinkles fell and I thought we were going to have more rain but just those couple hundred drops and we were finished. 

I believe it is a very invasive plant.....

 

I can tell you that spring is definitely in the air, we are in the south east area of the USA and I know this because everything is covered with a yellow-green dusting of pollen. I mean EVERYTHING, even inside the Igloo. You can't have the windows or door open without it layering everything. The truck is also a lovely new shade  as well. It's one of the things I dislike about this part of the USA. The pollen season seems to last a very long time. Much longer and much more dense than I remember Ontario being. 

 

For me , in case I forget where it is. Or for you if you ever might need to know...

 

We needed to fill up one of our propane tanks and I wanted to top off the Big Dog's drinking bowl in preparation for our departure later this week. So we grabbed the tank and off we headed into Bolivar. 

 

Just for future reference....

 I've said it before but Bolivar is such a quaint little spot. Folks are ever so friendly and helpful. We didn't see any indication of propane except exchange of the small tanks and we needed the bigger tank. In our wandering we ended up at the far end of town at the Walmart. I topped up with diesel and asked a fella at the pump if he knew where we could get a tank filled. He was local but had suffered from a stroke (although one could not tell to look at him) but couldn't remember any place. He thought there was one but wasn't sure. Apologized over and over, I felt bad for  having asked him. He did tell me where to go to ask at the local Coop Store, if anyone would know those folks would know he said. I thanked him again and off he went. The next fella was a much younger guy and was talking easily and not to me. I interrupted his private rant to himself to ask about getting a tank filled. He directed me so easily, even told me how much it was to fill the tank. I thanked him and off we went.

The beautiful building you've seen a number of times in the pictures from town is the courthouse, at the town square. The same town square that a reader told me was replicated after a fire. The corner houses some very unique old buildings including the bank of Bolivar, the Courthouse, a pizza joint and a few other things. We turned west at the corner. He didn't tell me the street name and I didn't look. How silly is that? Anyway, just as the young fella predicted there it was about 2 miles down the road Dixigas.

We pulled in and backed up to the little shed, and I headed into the office to pay. The total for a 30 lb tank that was completely empty ....$24. In Ontario I exchange this tank for double that amount as I've found exchange is cheaper than just a fill since they don't really FILL them like they do here. A 20 lb tank for your BBQ is $16. I think we in Ontario are getting ripped off in a  really really big way.

So we had completed our errand, fuel and propane, we didn't need any thing more, so we headed home. The over cast showed a slight sign of breaking up as the sun peeked through for about 30 seconds but then was gone again. 

 

Lots of law enforcement vehicles around town but these ones don't seem to move, wonder if they are being repaired?

 

Back home we started getting things ready to head out in a few days. I had the ladder and the blue boy down as I had been up on the roof, so they had to go back to their travel location. We loaded up our Blue Def stash as well. A few other little things were put away and that leaves just a couple of chairs to put away (as I'm hopeful of yet sitting in the sun once again), and the services to disconnect. We have a couple  more days before we head out but I don't anticipate a big change in the weather before then and so there is no need to keep things out and it's safer to put them away before it rains.

A couple of quick walks around the park and that was it for the day. Not very

 exciting I know but it's quiet and peaceful and we like these kinds of days. The park has once again cleared out a bit as the weekend is now past and folks are back to school and work, etc. There are still a number of campers here though and think the empty spots are in the single digits. Although if some folks moved some of their vehicles, empty trailers, etc there would be more.

The temperatures were fairly high yesterday, and shorts along with a t-shirt would have been acceptable if you don't mind a bit of a coolness to the air. I think we reached about 70F/21C with only a very slight breeze.  We kept a number of windows open through the night as the temps were in the mid 60's/ 18 C even this morning at 8 am.
