We are home…..

Our Location:

Summer Spot, near South Baymouth, Manitoulin Island

A very cold morning in Sudbury this morning, very heavy frost. We had wheels rolling before 8 am and were happy to start the last leg of our journey for this adventure.

One of the many small lakes on our way.

Very light traffic, no issues and we rolled into Espanola about 8:40 am. We spent an hour and a half doing some shopping and topping up on a few things to tide us over. We need to make a trip back in a week or so for some things we didn’t get or complete while we were there.

Wheels rolling again by 10:50 am we stopped one more time at Birch Island for a fuel fill up, $1.54 for diesel, which is approx $5.80 a gallon. The reserve prices are the best, I’m glad we can get them. Once again, wheels rolling we crossed the bridge onto Our Rock in the waters of Lake Huron at 11:20 am.

The Bridge we cross to reach the Island.

Yep, it is a little skinny.

We entered the gate just before noon. Stopped chatted with Brother for 5 minutes and parted ways, he going his and we into 4lo creeping up the hill. Turned around, parked and had our first visitor by 2 pm. The visitor of course was Dad.

Crossing the Bridge.. Little Current off in the distance.

A better view of Little Current.

After lunch we walked up to Dad’s to drop some things off, pick up the cabin key and before coming home managed to check out the house build and had 50 words with Jason before letting him get on with his dump truck work.

You can see the cabin thru the trees.

We are at the top of the hill, we need to turn in the space of the first pic now.

I will be posting much less, but will try to post a few times over the summer. Thanks for following along all winter.

Until next time…..

Take care, stay safe,

Happy Thanksgiving America….

Our Location:

Road Runner BLM, Quartzsite,

Happy Thanksgiving to all of our American friends. May this day bring you love and peace.

It’s been a busy few days. An electrical issue that keeps growing, Lorne and Ken are helping me with it, even a call to nephew Jason didn’t get us any closer but we shall try RV Lifestyle as soon as possible.

Lorne drilling a hole for wires in Percy’s roof!

Most of us have been gathering for coffee time and happy hour most days. Sometimes we just can’t all make it, but it is always fun. It has cooled down significantly here over the past few days. We are pulling on heavier clothing now.

A hint of pink in the morning sky, Nov 21.

Sunrise, Nov 21.

We had a movie night courtesy of Sue and Lorne (A place called awayWe all gathered in front of a big blow up screen and watched TheLong, Long Trailer with Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez. Deb and Tom (Celebrating the Dance  ), Ken and Kim ( Journey with Ken and Kim ), along with Bill (  On our way)and Patsy ( Chillin’ with Patsy ), Riley and I.

Sunrise, Nov 22

The hunt back home is not bagging any prizes according to Jason. However they still have a few days left.

The early start of sunrise this morning before 7 am.

Sunrise this morning while on my walk.

A mixture of pics over the last few days. I have successfully managed to move my feet a distance of 6000+ steps for 8 days. Most of these photos were taken then

Until next time…..

We are home.....

Our Location:

Summer Spot, Manitoulin Island, Ontario, Canada

Our time at the farm was wonderful, time spent getting to know Judi and time playing with Winnie, and before we knew it, it was time to head out. We left Buttercup Ridge on Thursday morning around 9:30 am. We were on two lane roads for over half of our travels, lots of hills, winding, humpy and bumpy. We passed through a number of smaller towns before finally popping out at Orillia, Ontario where we climbed onto the ON 400 North. A nice big highway with very little traffic for the size of the road. We enjoyed the drive. Although I will say it rained off and on the entire day, a few sunny breaks, temps up and down, so typical Northern Ontario spring day. We ended our night about 20 minutes south of Sudbury, still on ON 400 N at the MTO Truck Inspection pull off. We arrived around 3 pm, levelled up a bit and called it a day.

Small towns are pretty much the same everywhere.

ON 400 North near Orillia, Ontario.

Spring is not quite here yet but you can see the hint of it.

We are now on Hwy 6 south, no sign of spring on this stretch at all.

This morning we climbed into the Dogsled and started running at 7:45 am, I know because I looked. Within a short time we were around the city of Sudbury and heading west along the Trans Canada Highway. Within the hour we were stopped at the mall in Espanola, where we purchased a few last minute things, managed to chat with an old friend for a few minutes and empty the Igloo's tanks.

Hwy 6 is pretty twisty in places, lots of hills too.

Our piece of the north has lots of rocks and evergreens!

There are a lot of little lakes, some with some decent fishing.

There is a beauty here.

We were back on the road by 11:30 am, this time heading south. Within a short time we could see the Rock ahead and soon rolled across the bridge that spans the North Channel. We touched down on the Rock just before the noon hour. I know that too because I looked. From there we just let the Big Dog have his way and he rolled along toward home dirt with a big grin on his grill.

One of the many little inland lakes.

Once we cross that bridge we are on the Rock.

We are getting closer.

A stop at Dad's, he wasn't home but not to worry we knew he wouldn't be. He has been very worried about the mud and water in the bottom of the quarry and whether or not we could get through. It had drained and dried up considerably in the last few days but we wanted to check it out before pulling in the gate.  We left the Dogsled and Igloo in his driveway, climbed on his quad and headed down to the inside road to our spot. Well it was muddy, and there was a lot of water but we weren't too worried. We slipped across the road to see the renovation in progress at Jason's and just lucked out, he was there working. We chatted for a bit and soon Riley and I were headed off once again. A spin up the hill insured it wasn't washed out and soon we were back at Dad's. The quad away, he still wasn't home and so we headed off to give it a try. We managed to get through the mud in 4 wheel drive and stopped at the bottom of the hill to engage 4 wheel lo and before long we were up the hill and getting turned around. I managed to get us turned on the first try. It took a few more to get backed in right where I wanted, the rock is just in the wrong place and we can't move it.

We call this Ten Mile Point hill. The look out is at the top. I'll show pics from there another tim.

We turned off Hwy 6, and we are now about 2 miles from our end destination.

My dad and brother live on this road.

Our bare summer spot. It's a bit tight but we manage to turn up here.

We had feet down, and truck backed into it's parking place, lunch heated and dished up by shortly after 2 pm. A very good day for us!! We will be here until further notice. I promise to try to blog more than I usually do during our summers here but I can't promise. Today's pics were taken yesterday and today. Take care ALL.

Perhaps this summer we will get our little cabin sided.

The Dogsled and Igloo have made it to the top of the hill. We need to turn around now.

We are parked and level here at home. In a couple of days we will start unpacking our summer things.

Thanks for stopping by, we wish you all a very good summer.

Until next time....

Take care, stay safe,

Busy couple of days......

Our Location: Near American Girl Mine Road, BLM, CA

I missed posting yesterday, I was too lazy. So I'll just combine the posts now. How do ya like that? Two for one. A two fer.

This was the sunset on Monday night.

The sky was yellow and then orange.

It's been a bit coolish and more windy than not the last couple of days. It's not awning ripping winds but awning shaking winds. However we have tried the pool noodles under the big slide awning and it seems to help a great deal.  I think we need another noodle or two to actually make it stop all together.

So orange with wisps of yellow here and there.

And much later it finally calmed until on the faintest line of orange was left.

Lots of sun the last few days. An amazing sunset last night, the light show was jaw dropping as you can see in the photos below. Yesterday our errand was to haul over to the Chevron to dump our tanks. We had debated about doing on Thursday but since we had to be at an appointment for 9:30 AM I thought it wise to leisurely dump the afternoon before, and we simply stayed hooked up over night. Much easier start to the morning with no worries of getting behind someone else at the dump station.

These two came flying by, quite low and certainly grabbed everyone's attention.

A closer look at the one in the lead. They weren't in a big hurry and I'm guessing they weren't much higher than the black hills over by American Girl Mine Road.

The Chevron fuel station at Sidewinder Road has changed their pricing policy for dumping. Last year it went by the length of your rig, this year it was a flat fee. In fact for us it didn't matter the price was the same but they didn't ask for length this year, and they also asked for ID to be left to ensure one returned the key. For future reference for myself they also sell firewood. This is a quick and easy dump station only a few miles from our spot and so we were back home with the feet down within the hour. We simply left the outdoor stuff sitting on our mat while we were away. Saved our spot and made less work for us. Chatted with my dad last night for a half hour or so, just catching up on the news. Wind, snow and cold seems to be the news of the day. Hopefully it's not as tough a winter as last year but it's starting out like it.

Earlier in the day the sun was peeking through the cloud cover and the clouds looked quite dark, but not threatening, almost like they were back lit.

Off to the south of us the sky was interesting.

This morning we had an appointment at 9:30 AM way out in the Foothills at CJ's Repair on Tiffany Lane. We went there last year as well, I was happy with everything except the fact that they didn't seem interested in my issue because I didn't have their 'brand' of system. However interestingly enough, Jason remember me or us, and was interested in the fact that it hasn't really been fixed yet and suggested that perhaps if we had more time they could look at it. I said I'd keep that in mind. He remembered a number of things about us including the fact that Riley travels with me and that we dry camp most of the time.  Good memory!

The clouds are getting more yellow at the edges. You can see a line of haze or something behind the dunes but in front of those far blue mountains.

The sky was full of pink clouds, long billowy lines, soft, curvy row upon row upon row.

Dan was our tech guy today. We added two more batteries to our system, giving us 4 now. He rearranged the other two battery boxes as well, giving us a lot more space in our front compartment. A very nice fellow, seemed to know what he was doing, answered any questions I asked and took his time. Shop time is $105 US per hour. While Dan was over the hour we were only charged for 1 hour labour. We were heading home around 11:30 AM.

Looking east toward Pilot Knob area.

 Looking north toward the mountains.

Back at our spot we were starting to get things ready to unhook and set up but no power. Nothing, nada, zip, zero. No landing gear, no slides, no lights, nothing. Hmmmmm... I called CJ's and explained. I spoke with Jason and assured him there were no loose wires, something simply not connected and asked for a mobile tech to be sent out. It was working when we left, it should be working now. About 45 minutes later, Jason himself pulls up to the roadway where I've been waiting to direct him to us. Within 5 minutes he figured out the problem and within 15 minutes he was pulling. One of the connector wires was completely taped over and the end was the wrong colour. It simply didn't complete the circuit, no damage, no foul. Jason changed the end to the proper colour, hooked it to the right position and bang we have power. It's all good. Big sigh of relief!!!

Now how can one not be awed by this sight?

The sky was ablaze in pink, deep pink, light pink, crisp pink and fiery pink.

Within a half hour we were all set up again, and starting to entertain thoughts of lunch. A nice left over roast pork sandwich (from yesterday's lunch of roast pork, baked potatoes and a veggie mix -mushrooms, asparagus, carrots, celery) hit the spot. After which I spent some time reading, and writing this blog post.

So now you are up todate with the happenings here at the Igloo. A busy few days for us, going, going, going. I think we'll take tomorrow off from any 'town' stuff and perhaps find a nice place to take a bit of a hike. I'm looking forward to that.

The sky is huge out here in the desert and you can see it's filled with pink clouds.

So beautiful.

So on that note, thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed the photos. They are of sunsets taken over the last few days.

You can see some of the pink is starting to fade now.

Darkness is coming.....

Until next time... take care, be safe,

And we fade to black......
