Some errands……

 

Our Location:

Road Runner BLM, Quartzsite, Az

Since our arrival I have said we were going to just rest for a couple of days and we kinda did but not completely. Today however the Big Dog did not move.

We have been to Q twice since our arrival for a few reasons but now we are going to stay put for a couple of days. I truly just want to sit for a bit. This morning we went for a short stroll, I worked outside for about a half hour and then we just rested for the day. I’m certain we did not finish our resting today and so will be forced to continue tomorrow. Such is the hardships of life.

I have chatted with Dad every night, staying caught up on the news back there. He had no tricker treaters at all but I don’t think he expected to either. I have called my sister a couple of times and had coffee, it was a nice way to pass an hour. Today I called my friend Linda to get caught up with her and her family. Due to busy lives we just didn’t get a chance to visit this summer. 

While we are sitting I will blog occasionally but not every day, I don’t do anything interesting enough to do so, some times they will be photo blogs, and since a picture is worth a thousand words, if you view the pictures slowly enough it will be as if I have produced a novel for you to read!

Another quiet day….

 

Our Location:

Road Runner BLM, Quartzsite, Arizona 

A sleep pattern of sleeping a few hours, awake for a few hours and another hour or so of sleep seems to be the new norm for me. It’s not one I like but it seems to be the one I’m adjusting too. This is the third night in a row.

Awake, dressed and out the door before 7 this morning I watched the sun come up as my feet carried me across the desert floor and I managed all of my steps again today. Back home before 8 am, a bit of breakfast before we headed off to town to do a few more errands that we some how managed to forget yesterday.

The sky is getting a little more colour…

Happy hour found us all sitting at Ken and Kim’s ( Journey with Ken and Kim ). We managed once again to have some chuckles, tell some tales and enjoy the company. We headed home at various times toward nightfall.  We of course being Deb and Tom (Celebrating the Dance  ), Lorne and Sue ( A place called away  ), Riley and I.

The sun lighting just the very tops of the clouds.

You can see where it will top the clouds very soon.

I chatted with dad, the retirement party for brother Rick was a success with a lot of people in attendance. The weather is warmish there, the start of the annual deer season is Monday, otherwise all is quiet on The Rock in Lake Huron.

It is easier to see now….

It has already kissed the mountains behind me.

Some pics from a few days ago...

 

Our Location: 

North of MM 4, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

 

Errands in Yuma where the focus, Harbor Freight, 99cent store, Walmart, and propane. The U-Haul where we normally get propane and the Chevron at Pilot Knob are the same price, $3.99. Home and finished putting away the groceries by 1:30. The wind started picking up and making it kind of dusty to be outside and a wind advisory in effect tomorrow as well. Chatted with my dad later in the day, surprise, surprise the Rock is getting a lot of wind too. Wind seems to be the constant word in most conversations.

They are still very stiff and pointy needles.

Deep in the wash, lots of debris.

They are fast and blend well.

The pattern is eye catching. You can see the direction of the flow from the caught up debris.

Waves in the desert.

Paper thin layers.

Still some pretty blooms, some not open yet too.

Our Location: 

North of MM 4, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

 

A cool start to the day but we had errands to run today and so headed off around 9:30 am. First was a garbage run to the rest area, next was Arco for diesel for the Big Dog, next was Harbor Freight, Walmart, gas and water all in the Walmart parking lot, and finally a bust at Ferrell Gas, no longer open to the public. Oh well, we'll get it filled in a day or two elsewhere. 

I love the colouring.

Nothing is repetitive. The hills are never uniform, nor the colours.

We stopped and parked here for a bit.

After that it was a very quiet but nice day, not too hot, reached about 73F/23C. A beautiful day. Some helicopters flew by so low their feet were almost dragging in the desert sand but too far away to get a good pic with the phone. I do miss my camera. More pics of the ride with Jerry again. I hope you are enjoying the views. I sure did. 

Those are water tanks over there and supply lines running to them along the hill.

We headed down that trail on foot. It was some pretty amazing things to see down there.

That's a man made dam over there. Lots of concrete.

A day of errands…

 

Our Location:

North of MM 4, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California 

A nice warmish day with a slight breeze but lots of sun. No coffee hour this morning, Riley and I had a number of errands to run. They required the whole morning and we were not completely successful but we did get what groceries we required along with a full tank of diesel, which by the way was $4.33 per gallon.

Back home we put away the groceries and cleaned up the yard, stowing everything in preparation for our move tomorrow. Lunch was simple and quick before I joined the others for a shortened version of happy hour. Doug was off to watch the Super Bowl, and I headed home before the sun was down as it was cool with shorts and a light hoodie.

Blurry but Felicity considers itself the centre of the world. 

A chat with dad, and sister who was visiting him, a few chapters in my book, a quick post and I called it a day.  If everything goes well our next stop will be eastward which also means we will be starting our homeward journey very slowly but it will be our intent with every move to head east, maybe not northward too soon but eastward. Our wheels need to touch Ontario dirt by mid April.

As you head into California you must pass through the Agricultural checkpoint.

Errands, chores and friends arrive.....

 

Our Location: 

North of MM 4, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

 

This morning Riley and I had errands and chores to accomplish. We loaded ourselves, the laundry, propane tank, gas can, etc into the Dogsled and headed off around 8:30 am MST. Our first stop was diesel and gas (for the generator) at the Arco Station at Exit 2. Diesel was down to $4.49 per gallon. We managed to fill both the truck and gas can and get rid of some garbage all at one place. A good start to the long list. 

 

Our second stop was for propane at U-Haul. Here I was informed it will be the last fill of this tank as it expires at the end of the month. Looks like we may be using smaller tanks until we get back to Ontario to exchange this one again, since it left Ontario as an exchange. What a pain in the ...  On the plus side, it was cheaper to fill this tank than last time. Less than $30.00 USD for a 30lb tank from flat. 

 

Our third stop was the laundromat. We managed to snag 4 big washers and within two hours had our laundry all completed and back in the truck. We also managed to find a post box for some mail back home. Two  more things off the list. 

 

The last stop was at Walmart on S. Pacific Ave for groceries and drinking water. We managed to find everything we needed, fill up the remaining 4 drinking jugs and put a jug of Def Fluid in the Big Dog. Wow, we were finished and heading home around 12:30 MST. 

 

We pulled in as Doug was pulling out, he came back for a quick chat and then scooted off to town. Riley and I managed to get everything put away and sitting down to lunch within the hour. We were happy to have this long list behind us. 

 

Around 3 pm MST the Stinger B and family pulled in. We went out to greet them and then came back inside while they did their parking and setting up. We had a quick happy hour and soon the cold and rain had us all heading inside. All is well in the neighbourhood.
