Change of plans and friends drop in…

 

Our Location:

Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California 

A nice night, a bit cool but we are sleeping with either a window or a vent open at nights and leaving windows and vents open all day until the sun goes down. It’s tough in the southwest in the winter!

A bit of a cold bug has been hanging out in the neighbourhood and so our Wednesday plans changed. We all did our own thing, some into town, some stayed home but at happy hour we all managed to come together for some chatter! A big white Ford came rolling in just as we were getting started and out popped John and Brenda ( John and Brenda’s Incredible Adventure ) to add more excitement to happy hour. A good time was had by all. We enjoyed the visit and made future plans with the our fellow Canadians.

Today, Thursday, Dec 13 we would like to wish a Happy Anniversary to Deb and Tom ( Celebrating the Dance). They provided all things for happy hour today before heading off for a nice dinner in Yuma.

And off they go back home, about 90 seconds away.

Ken and Kim ( Journey with Ken and Kim) and I continued happy hour for a while at the Igloo. Riley is battling a sinus cold and stayed inside. As dark descended we all went home and will catch up with everyone tomorrow. As I said, it’s a tough life here in the desert southwest, aren’t you glad we are suffering through it for you?

A visit with friends….

 

Our Location:

Truckhaven BLM, California 

After a couple of cups of coffee Riley and I climbed into the Dogsled and headed off to find our friends. It wasn’t a far jaunt and we could see the noses of the White Lion and the Stinger Bee peeking at us over the edge of the cliff. We found the path up to the top and pulled in between the two. Soon Yuma came scampering out and ran like a speed demon to the truck. He was excited to see us. It wasn’t long before Doug also came strolling out with a smile on his face. A few minutes later Deb & Tom also descended the steps and a coffee time visit was upon us.

Doug, Yuma, Riley and I took a stroll but couldn’t get close enough to the edge to see the Igloo. A few more quick moments of visiting and Riley and I headed for home. I didn’t take a photo of coffee time.  We have plans for Saturday but our Friday plans have changed and so we will once again head over for coffee time in the morning and see what the day brings.

I don’t think the Dogsled could squeeze in there.

Chatted with my dad tonight for a half hour, lots of wind there, a bit of blowing snow but still not very cold. Folks are starting to worry about a late spring, well into May. I guess we will see how that works out.

A change in plans....

Our Location: Quail Ridge Rv Park, Huachuca City, Az

 

 I haven't download my phone the last few days so there are no photos. 

 

Riley and I have been discussing our plans and have both decided it is prudent to head home to Ontario instead of meeting our friends and taking our time going home. 

 

We have been debating our route, north or south. North will be cooler or maybe cold, south will be hot and humid. There really isn't any in between route.  I'm leaning toward the northern route but I'll decide when we reach the necessary point. 

 

Our plan is to leave here in the morning and travel daily until we reach Ontario. I'm guessing it will take us about a week to travel the approximately 2000 miles to reach the Detroit/Windsor area. 

 

To all of our friends who are travelling or trying to wait this thing out, we wish you safe travels, or safe sitting, good health, and great weather. To all of those already at home, stay safe, healthy, and take care.

Change of plans...

Our Location: Palm Canyon BLM, KOFA NWR, Arizona

 

 

A change of plans today had us lazing around again. Although I will admit I did go up on the roof and clean the solar panels. They actually weren't nearly as bad as I expected. Once that was accomplished it was pretty much a research day for me. A chat with Dad and making contact with my buddy from Kansas has me rethinking my generator choice so I'll be doing some more thinking before I purchase one. 

 

 

The barrel cactus here aren't as bright red in colour as they are on Ogilby Road near Yuma. 

 

 

 This dying Saguaro is easily seen from our window. 

 As you can see it's still a greenish hint in places but this one is definitely not going to recover.

 

Nephew Jason and his lovely wife Leah leave tomorrow for the second annual trip to British Columbia where they will be enjoying the wonders of the providence, including a great deal of snow mobile riding. Safe travels and have fun!! 

 

 

 Lots of pointy things to watch out for in the desert.

 The little one is tucked in and I didn't see it at first.

 

 

 

 

Today's photos were taken yesterday on a short walk. I thought if I got outside and walked around that I might see something inspiring toward the mountains but alas, nothing, zip, nada. I wonder why that is? 

 Yep, that's a sharp pointy thing too.

 As I sit writing this post folks are coming and going. It seems we now have two new neighbours that have pulled into the space near us, much closer than we like and much closer than good RV'ers should even think about . We can hear them talking, their dog barking and pretty much every noise they make. I wonder why folks do that? Of course it's a rhetorical question, we all know why. They have no manners, no regard for others and they don't give a rat's behind about anyone but themselves. End of rant.

Surprised us too.....

Our Location: American Girl Mine Road, California

I slept well until shortly after 2 AM but I also went to bed early around 8 pm as I was very tired. I've been driving for a few miles these past few days. I enjoy driving but it does get tiring after a while. 

Snow on those mountain tops way off in the distance.

You know we're close now, don't ya?

 

We were both up tucking a few things away and grabbing some snacks for the truck shortly after 7 AM. We were on the road by 7:45 AM. A kind of cloudy type sky and the temps reading 45F/7.2C. Pointing the Big Dog's nose west we once again ran along I-10 West.

We left Gage, NM this morning and crossed into Arizona a short time later.

Our original destination was going to be Empire Ranch for a week but a check of the long range weather forecast had very low temps, very strong winds, lots of rain and even some chances of snow, so we opted to head on down the road. We couldn't decided on any place we wanted to stop now as we would be there for a week with the holiday weekend coming up and so we agreed that with the weather being iffy at best in most of the areas we would just head to the surest thing. Yuma! And so that's what we did. We simply pointed the Dogsled in that direction and yelled,' Mush." 

Of course you know this is Texas Canyon rest area, right? We didn't stop but we still took photos.

It's a long way down there folks.

A few stops along the way and some leg stretches, a few phone calls and by 5 PM tonight MOUNTAIN time we arrived here at our spot for the next while. The long range forecast looks wonderful and we're happy to be sitting for a while again. 

Past this in Tucson, AZ. Some kind of big playland.

 

While we are actually in California we will keep our clocks on Mountain time as Yuma is the biggest shopping area near by and we will be using their 'time' to keep us in tune with shopping and stuff while in this area. 

 

HRH Miss Kitty was looking around as we drove. She normally stays in carrier but today opted for a different view.

Talked to both my SIL Janet and my dad today. Dad was happy to hear from us, knowing we are now going to be sitting here for a while just resting, soaking up the heat and enjoying the sunshine.  Janet was probably happy to hear from us too. Haha

We were happy to see this sign, knowing we were a short distance from our destination.

Tomorrow I'll catch up on the comments and my reading, for the past couple of days I've just been too tired at days end. Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed your visit.
