A nice few days….

Our Location:

Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

I trust we all survived the end of 2023 and have now settled into 2024. We passed the evening and the day with good friends Deb and Tom  , Ken and KimJohn and Brenda(they were here for New Year’s Eve only), and Keith. A good time was had by all.

New Year’s Eve happy hour.

Sunset, New Year’s Eve.

We really haven’t done anything exciting or interesting in the past few days. I’ve chatted with everyone back home once or twice, they report a light dusting of snow but colder temps in the future. Nephew Jason and a number of his friends who were in Revelstoke, BC sledding have  moved on to Alaska due to poor snow in the area. It’s nice to be young! Have fun, stay safe guys.

More sunset pics.

We did have a few adult libations.

Cooler weather has us wearing more long pants and looking forward to warmer temps. Tom and Ken left early yesterday (Jan 2) for an adventure of their own. The rest of us managed to amuse ourselves for the day.

Sunrise this morning, Jan 3,2024

And now it’s popped over the hills.

Today our friends Willie and Rick from the Rock in Lake Huron will be in the area and we will be getting together for a visit of some kind! We are excited to see someone from home.

Today’s pics are an accumulation over the past few days.

Until next time…..

Take care, stay safe,

Deb

A new arrival….

Our Location:

Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

A quiet day except for a new arrival on our home dirt spot. Ken and Kim’s friend, fellow Canadian and in fact fellow Ontarian, Keith and his trusted side kick Oreo arrived yesterday. They will be here for a little while before moving on to spend some time with other folks.

Sunrise, Dec 14.

A walk down to Dogpound Anywhere yesterday morning had me visiting with John and Brenda longer than my original plan. Oh well, it was enjoyable, and they didn’t seem to mind me popping by.

Water left over, but it was soon gone.

We being, Deb and Tom, Ken and Kim, Keith and I all sat around for a bit of a happy hour yesterday afternoon. A bit coolish but still nice in the sunshine. Riley stayed inside as she often does.

The view from a walk to John and Brenda’s.

Today, Christmas Eve we will all get together for happy hour and I believe John and Brenda will be joining us as well. We plan on sharing some goodies, and tomorrow our plan is to meet again for Christmas dinner. It promises to be lively and fun!

A chat with a few folks back home, it seems they will have a green Christmas this year, the temps a little above the freezing mark! Not fun for anyone getting snow toys!

New neighbour, Keith.

A special happy birthday to Miss Isabell. She turns 10 today. A beautiful young lady with a quick smile, a soft voice and a twinkle in her eye. She is my brother Rick’s oldest grandchild, being the oldest child of his oldest child, Nicole.

Also a happy birthday to cousin Barry. He celebrates tomorrow. Barry is a friendly fella, a helpful and easy going guy.  He makes his home in The Slash on Manitoulin Island. His home is on his grandfather’s farm, his grandfather being my great grandfather.

A send off for nephew Jason as he once again prepares for his cross country drive and a month spent dancing, flipping and fixing his sled out in the BC area of Revelstoke. He meets a number of friends there and they spend their days sledding in the area. Have fun, stay safe!

From our Igloo to your home, Riley and I wish you all a very Merry Christmas! May you be surrounded by family, friends, good will, peace, love and joy!

Until next time….

Take care, stay safe,

Deb

A trip to Mexico….

Our Location:

Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

Don’t you just love when a plan comes together? Of course you do, and so do I. Blue skies, warm temperatures and good friends, a great day. A perfect plan.

Deb D, Tom, Ken and Kim..

John, Brenda and Riley, all at the little outdoor cantina.

The six of us climbed into the Dogsled this morning at 10:30 am and headed down the pathway toward John and Brenda’s (John and Brenda’s Incredible Adventure) place. We noted that they too were climbing into their big truck and falling in behind us. We headed off to Los Algodones.

Tom, John and Ken.

Deb D brought us some special napkins.

We had an incredible day, much laughter, a few drinks, some food, a little shopping and a short wait in line at the border crossing. Back home around 4:30 pm we all came together for happy hour with John and Brenda also dropping in for a little more visiting. Darkness and cool night temps had us all saying our goodbyes, see you down the road to John and Brenda as they head off on the next part of their adventure. We have enjoyed getting to know them better in the last few days and look forward to having our paths cross again in the future! Safe travels friends.

Only three this fly over…

We called it a night not long after they departed. We of course I think you should know by now means Deb and Tom as well as Ken and Kim, Riley and I.  Riley was tired after Mexico and missed HH. She is battling a sinus issue.

Goodnight from Ogilby Road.

Until next time…..

Take care, stay safe,

Deb

Change of plans and friends drop in…

Our Location:

Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

A nice night, a bit cool but we are sleeping with either a window or a vent open at nights and leaving windows and vents open all day until the sun goes down. It’s tough in the southwest in the winter!

Tom, Deb D, John and Brenda

A bit of a cold bug has been hanging out in the neighbourhood and so our Wednesday plans changed. We all did our own thing, some into town, some stayed home but at happy hour we all managed to come together for some chatter! A big white Ford came rolling in just as we were getting started and out popped John and Brenda ( John and Brenda’s Incredible Adventure ) to add more excitement to happy hour. A good time was had by all. We enjoyed the visit and made future plans with the our fellow Canadians.

Kim, Ken, Tom, Deb D.

Today, Thursday, Dec 13 we would like to wish a Happy Anniversary to Deb and Tom ( Celebrating the Dance). They provided all things for happy hour today before heading off for a nice dinner in Yuma.

And off they go back home, about 90 seconds away.

Ken and Kim ( Journey with Ken and Kim) and I continued happy hour for a while at the Igloo. Riley is battling a sinus cold and stayed inside. As dark descended we all went home and will catch up with everyone tomorrow. As I said, it’s a tough life here in the desert southwest, aren’t you glad we are suffering through it for you?

Until next time…

Take care, stay safe,

Deb

We’ve moved….

Our Location:

Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

We left Road Runner BLM near Quartzsite on Tuesday morning. Riley and I headed into town to dump our tanks and then we headed off down the highway toward the Yuma Proving Grounds. Deb and Tom, (Celebrating the Dance), Ken and Kim (Journey with Ken and Kim), having already dumped headed out after they were hooked up. Our ride was smooth and uneventful, just the kind we like.

Some views on our ride to Ogilby.

We rolled past Yuma and on out past Ogilby Road to the rest area at Imperial Dunes to dump some garbage and take on water. It’s comforting to know where things are and we’ve spent enough time in this area to know many of those things. We pulled into our spot and started setting up. We had our feet down, wheels chocked and the Big Dog unhooked when the others could be seen coming up the lane way. A meeting was held a vote was taken and everyone got parked. We will be here for a bit. We all have a thing or two in mind.

The rest area and sunset, Dec 6.

We have enjoyed a few happy hours, lots of laughter and a few tall tales, kind of like fish stories maybe! Riley and I were coming back from Yuma yesterday afternoon and decided that a rig not far from us looked like it could be some fellow Canadians from Alberta. We popped over the washed and sure enough it is the folks from John and Brenda’s incredible adventures. We hope to have a happy hour or two with them.

Our home dirt this morning before sunrise.

Some views of the moon during my morning stroll.

The temperatures are warmer here, Riley and I are enjoying them a great deal. My morning walk has now resumed and I look forward to getting back into the Cargo Muchacho mountains again.

Our neighbours in the morning sunrise, Journey and The Stinger Bee.

Sunrise this morning.

Riley and I would like to offer our most sincere condolences to the Leeson family in the passing of Noreen. She passed peacefully while napping in her chair. She was a classy lady with a big heart, she will be  missed!

The Igloo and the Dogsled in the morning sunrise.

Home for the next while.
Ken and Kim are on the left and Deb and Tom on the right.

Thanks for dropping by, I hope enjoyed your visit.

Until next time,

Take care, stay safe,

Deb
