Back in Ontario…

Valens Lake Conservation, Flamborough, Ontario

We woke to sunny skies and coolish temps in Perrysburg, Ohio but it did warm up on our drive. Wheels rolling by 7:45 am we had the best kind of drive….uneventful. The regular rough stretch entering Monroe, Michigan, but other wise other than a noisy road surface, all was good. 

Our last state this journey.

We arrived at the Canadian Customs, paid our $11.00 and rolled across the Ambassador Bridge pulling into line about 9:15 am. A new Customs Officer, reading from the “script” was pleasant and by 9:30 am we were wheels rolling on past the Customs yard onto the streets of Windsor.  Our second bonus of the day, an easy crossing.

We are going to cross that bridge to Ontario.

Chatham Kent was our first rest stop in Ontario. The call to our intended destination brought us our first curve ball of the day. Due to new management, no returning early admissions allowed. Hmmmmm… this is not good, we had based everything on this park. Riley came up with the place we never wanted to return to, I called and yes, they are open, in fact open all year. We had little choice and took a spot. Our third bonus of the day.  A call to Dad to let him know we are back in Ontario, and on the road we were once again.

Riley texted our usual folks to let them know we have arrived and soon we were pulling into the Conservation area. Just under $500 CAD secured us a spot for the week.  We stayed in this park once before with the old Igloo, which was 30 amp, but now we discovered there are no 50 amp sites. Not knowing this is rig was 50 amp when we bought it, and since we plug in so infrequently, I left my 50/30 conversion at home. While the rig came with a short 50/30, this one plugs into the rig, not the end of the 50 amp cord like the one I have at home. So that didn’t help us. We decided we would continue with our plans and worry about later.

That is Ontario, Canada. Weare almost back to our home province, but nit home.

We left around 2:30 pm with the Igloo running as usual on battery and headed off to Brantford to see daughter Bradey, SIL David, and grandsons Auston and Lincoln. It was a great visit, the boys are growing so fast, and are full of energy. We enjoyed a very nice turkey dinner, but shortly after, we headed out, stopping at Walmart but not finding a 50/30, instead finding a 30 amp extension cord. We had a solution. We bought the cord, came home, plugged in the short 50/30 to the rig, connected the 30 amp extension cord, and voila, we are good to go. I think this might be our option of choice going forward. The 30 amp chord is much easier to handle than the very heavy 50 amp. We shall of course carry both but we are thinking of using this set up. Our fourth and fifth bonus’ of the day.

It’s hard to tell but there is the slightest suggestion of green in the trees, barely but it’s there. 

We travelled 250 miles/402 km. We stopped a number of times, travelling approximately 6 hours, we used about 20 gallons/75 litres of fuel, we averaged around 57 mph/91 kmh. We had a bit of a head wind, side wind at times, some stop and go traffic getting to the park and a bit of hilly countryside as well. So my math says about 12.5 mpg. Considering our fresh water is almost full, I think that was good.

Another day of visiting…….

 

Our Location:

Olympia Village Rv, Waterdown, Ontario 

A very mixed day, a little rain, a little sun, lots of warm air with some humidity added in, clouds, wind and just a hint of cold hanging on the outer edges.

No pics today, I just didn’t remember to take any. I’m getting forgetful I think. We had no plans for most of day and just stayed in, I managed to do a number of things on line and still have a couple more phone chores to do before we leave the area.

We headed off to check a few things at the local Brantford Walmart, we will be heading back to do a big shop in the next day or two in preparation for our travels southward. A few little forays into a couple of stores nearby and soon we were heading to Bradey and David’s place. 

A wonderful few hours, thanks for dinner guys, it was fabulous! The boys, Auston and Lincoln were full of giggles and smiles. We heard about school, Halloween costumes, and many other things as we played and chatted until it was time for Linc to go bed, we had hugs and kisses, and headed home. We may see them again before we pull out but we aren’t sure. 

Back home around 8 pm, the night driving reminding me of why I dislike it so much. I’m always happy to be off the roads before the sun goes down and the blinding lights take over. ‘Nough said!

A birthday note again today. Happy Birthday Leah. Leah is the beauty that married my nephew Jason and together they have two adorable children. Leah is a warm, wonderful young lady that lights up any room she enters. Leah is the DIL/Auntie of the two birthday ladies mentioned in yesterday’s post, Barb and Hazel. We hope you had an amazing day Leah.

Errand day # 1.....

 

 

Our Location: 

 Near MM 4, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven,  California

 

A warm night and a nice morning with some wind but nothing too much. Of course it comes from the north and so keeps the early morning a bit coolish enough to need a hoodie when you are out in it. Breakfast and a walk started the day off, next I vacuumed the Dogsled to get rid of Yuma's hair. Riley and I had a number of errands to run today and a few more tomorrow too. 

 

We got stopped by the train on our way home. It had 6 engines.

Our first stop was Best Buy, they advertise camera repair, it was a no go. I called Kurt's Camera repair listed as serving the Yuma and Winterhaven area, except it's located in San Diego and I would need to send my camera there.  I asked a few folks but to no avail, there is no where to get my camera looked at here in the Yuma area. Oh well, I'll just keep using my phone for now.

Actually Best Buy wasn't our first stop, our first stop was to see Doug & Yuma ( Miss Adventure Travels ) just to kind of make sure everything was good with them. Yuma was happy to see us and wanted some pets and attention. It was good to see Doug settled and enjoying the morning.

So, second stop was Best Buy, third stop was U-Haul to get propane. For less than $32 USD my big tank was filled to the top, which would work out to be about $50 CAD, about the same as back home on the Island for an exchange. It's the first time I've had someone rip the exchange label off, said he had to check the entire tank for rust or wear spots but put another sticker back on it when he finished. It still has a couple of years and I truly can't figure out why he needed to pull the sticker off. Anyway...

Our next stop was Walmart where we left a sizeable deposit for a very full buggy. We've been running a little low on a few things and needed to stock up, we also managed to find some nice new chairs and of course the Big Dog needs to keep his favourite drink stocked up, Def fluid, or he won't run! We managed to get just about everything on the list too.  

 

The Palo Verde remind me of  Willows in some ways.

 

Our last stop was right in the parking lot at Wally World, it was fill the remainder of our drinking jugs with water. It was an easy thing to do right in the parking lot. Yeah, most of the errands completed. 

 

Lots of debris under here, just like a Willow that sheds large amounts.

 

Back home we put all the groceries away, separated what needed to be separated, and even managed to have some lunch, all before 4 MST. 

 

Lots of waste waiting to fall or be swept away.

 

Yesterday I chatted dad, daughter Bradey, and sister in law Janet. It was a day full of catch up, or at least an evening. Grandson Auston has been battling a cold for a number of weeks, it seems to go away to come back again within a few days. Hopefully some antibiotics will clear everything up. His brother Lincoln hasn't been sick at all, lucky little fella. Bradey and hubby David are doing well too. SIL Janet reports Dennis is doing his therapy (broken hip) and is hopeful to be back on the golf course by shortly after the new year. We do hope he manages to get back into it, he does love it and plays every day out here in California.

A few more errands tomorrow and so the picture taking has been on hold. Sorry about that but it is what it is. I'll get back to that in a day or two, honest.
