A rest day....

Our Location: Bouse Road, near Parker, AZ

A decent night's sleep but I didn't feel rested when I woke up at 5 am, turned over and didn't hear anything until 7:30 am. It was bright outside my window but the sun wasn't up yet. So I scrambled out of bed and out the door to catch some pictures of the sunrise.

The moon greeted me this morning when I stepped outside...
(I cropped this picture from it's original size but there is no enhancement of any kind)

It was a glorious morning, much cooler than we've been having of late, and I enjoyed the crisper air. Since I wasn't really dressed, just jammies and sweat shirt I found it a bit on the chilly side but that's okay, I like that feel first thing in the morning.

The sky is certainly showing off this morning...
( All of the sunrise pictures are natural, no enhancement of any kind)

Back inside it was after 8 am before Riley made any noises. Okay well maybe not noises but vocal noises one could understand at least. We sat down to enjoy our hot morning drinks, I read blogs, comments, and made some of my own. Riley did whatever it is Riley does to amuse herself while I do the blog thing.

The painter must have run out of a few colours as the palette is mostly yellowish...

We tidied up a bit, and discussed the day. We've decided to stay a few days and today we spent the day doing absolutely nothing. I had prepped lunch early this morning making us some salads  along with our regular fare of fresh mixed veggies with garlic, we also have another chicken breast we are going to BBQ, and we were debating about doing an acorn squash or a potato. However by lunch time with the heat  salads were enough for us. We'll cook the rest tomorrow.

Who says the desert is brown?

We will be doing some driving over the next few days to see a few things we want to check out in the area. I'm hoping to get a chance to drop into Quartzsite at least once for a quick peek now that the crowds are gone. A few things in Parker we need to check out as well but perhaps with the boat races (as per Dave over at Our View from Here) we may change that to a trip to Bouse before we head out.  We shall have to see.

Love the way sun is shining off these small silky strands...

It's been somewhat quiet here, with very little dust and only minimal ATV noise. We have a few neighbours but not many. The area is pretty quiet actually with the paved road being the busiest part of the whole area.  It's certainly an area I'd come back to again. I'd like to check out a few more of the spots here though as I think there are probably some pretty good ones if you can figure out how to get to them.

The opening is on the bottom, and I think it may belong to a hummer....

I had a 2 hour nap this afternoon. I didn't hear a sound and only woke up about 4 pm because I was warm.  Well actually that's not true, I woke up once turned over and went back to sleep. The intense heat is playing havoc with my joints, specifically my left knee. It's always the one to give me the most trouble and the last few days it's been well, a bit bigger and squishier than normal. Under threat of bodily harm from Miss Riley I've been laid up all day with my foot over my head, a tensor bandage tightly wrapped around it to keep there, and a few of the anti inflammatories the good Doctor Bobba, my Rheumy specialist has told me to take for just such occasions. Last night was also spent with my foot up on a pillow and I can  say that due to the wonderful care and threats of Miss Riley today the swelling has gone down a fair bit. I think one more day will bring it down to where it should be and I'll be able to bend my knee again. Won't that be nice.

This little guy was darting along in front of me and stopped for a photo op....

I will admit I did manage a bit of a walk tonight at sunset to catch a few pictures, but I was careful where I put my foot and I didn't get into soft rolling sand. Hopefully I'll be able to get out walking in the next day or so, that would be wonderful!!!!

I'm a bit shaky so it's not as clear as I'd like but I love the orange markings under his chin...

I've noticed that we have no cacti here where we are located. I haven't even seen a Teddy Bear Cholla since we've been here. Not even driving around finding a spot. There are the little stickers that get caught in your shoes or feet, or doggie/kittie foot pads but other than that I haven't seen any.

I love the sun through the trees....makes me think of the Lion King....
(All of the sunset pictures are as they were taken with no enhancements of any kind)

So there you have it our very quiet day. Thanks for stopping by, hope you have had an excellent day doing what ever it is that consumed your day. Feel free to leave a comment, I read them all and will reply as well.

The colours are amazing....

A close up of the sunset shows off the intense red colour....

Until next time... take care, be safe,

Goodnight from Bouse Road BLM......

  2. Beautiful sunset shots, Deb.
    Love the little gecko.
Hope the knee is soon well, it's a good thing that Riley put her foot down and you listened.
    Take care.

    1. Thanks Bill.
Yeah I liked that little fella too. He just climbed up on the rock and stayed there.
It's getting better, I just need to be more careful. Yeah, Riley's taking good care of me. She's a tough nurse though. Hahaha....

  3. Love your sunrise and sunset shots , we are r4ally missing the desert scenery being in a campground. This stickers can be annoying especially for pets.
Relax and get that knee better or the Nurse will make things very tough for you lol..

    1. That is a draw back for a park, not really good sunrises or sets but then they do offer a few other comforts not available in the desert. So it's a give and take thing but it's always nice to have an option.

Yeah, she's tough and I'm scared of her. Hahahaha...Thanks George, it's feeling better this morning.

  4. Sorry to hear about your knee...sounds really painful, the best you can do is rest, even though that's really not you :))..Great pic of the lizard, (even though I don't like the things). Sunset is beautiful. Take care of yourself (and listen to the nurse).

    1. It only hurts when I try to bend it, the rest of the time it just aches. However this morning it is feeling better. Thanks for the sympathy. Riley doesn't offer any just orders. Hahaha...

The little guy just kind of sat on the rock almost saying,"Well lady what more do you want, snap the damn picture already." So I couldn't pass up the opportunity.

I'm enjoying the sunsets a great deal. They always offer a different perspective with shadows and shading. Where I find the sunrises don't give that opportunity.

  5. Beautiful pictures especially the sunrise and sunset. The knee thing does not sound like fun; glad to read you listened to Riley and got it up and resting so you can enjoy future hikes. Enjoy your time out there and listen to your "nurse" and keep the knee elevated until the swelling goes down. Besides "do nothing" days are wonderful for the soul and the desert is a peaceful place to enjoy them.

    1. Thanks Deb. The knee is often an issue and most times the swelling is a minor issue. We should have rested a day before the drive as the soft rolling sand around the sculptures I think was the culprit taking it from an occasional twinge to a dull ache. The drive then just aggravated it more. I should have known better. Oh well, it's feeling better today so I'll be able to get out and about on hard packed or paved surfaces.

The nurse is doing a wonderful job of taking care me. I joke about it but she's been so wonderful carrying and fetching without any complaint. She's truly a gem.

I like do nothing days but they aren't the same with my leg propped up. Feels more like jail or something. Although a day in the sun/shade with a book may be on the agenda again before we head out of here.

  6. Beauty of a moon shot, Deb! Like everyone else, I like the gecko picture, what a long tail he has!
Take care of your knee, I know how you like to get out and not be tied down. Although Rile must just have to do that literally!
Funny how the cactus disappear from view in certain areas and then return down the road.
Take it easy and keep the lovely pictures coming.

    1. Thanks Patsy. She threatened me with a rope or duct tape once or twice, and since she's bigger, I just did as I was told. She just kind of grins and says," Well suck it up buttercup" if get up and about too soon. She's a tough one.

Glad you're enjoying the pictures. I'm trying to find things that I don't see back in Ontario very often or at all, so that I'll have a visual reminder of them.

Yeah I like the little gecko guy, he was so patient while I kind of edged closer and closer.

It is funny how the cacti just disappear within a few miles. I would be curious to know the reason.

    2. Don't expect much in Bouse. There ain't much there.😂

Loved the photo of the sun peeking through the Creosote bush.

Hope your knee gets better soon. Horrible not to be able to walk in such beautiful country.

Say hi to Riley for me!🤗

    3. Riley smiled and waved at you Doug!

      Noted about Bouse.

Glad you liked the photo. It's always interesting trying to find new things to photograph each day.

It's getting better every day and today I actually did a little walking so it's on the mend. Thanks.

      Take care, be safe,
