Our Location:
Summer Spot
Near South Baymouth, Ontario
Our time here is short, only a couple more days before we leave the Igloo and Dogsled behind for 6 months. A very new twist to our usual winter travels. Thursday is departure day from our spot, Friday brings us to Southern Ontario for a few days of visiting with each of my two other daughters. On Thursday, Oct 30 we fly from Pearson International into San Jose del Cabo, Mexico.
Our packing this year is quite different, and as I am slowly packing suitcases, Patsy you are on my mind. Trying to figure out what to take and what to leave behind, what will we use, what does it weigh, do we really need it or can we just buy it if we need it. Then of course there are the other things that come with us naturally, liquids, grocery staples, batteries, fridge and freezer contents, etc. which all must be left behind this year. I will admit it is a challenge but I think I have a good handle on it. Of course we will need to winterize this rig, something we haven’t done in the past. A definite learning curve.
We are finished work for this season. We stayed in the housekeeping line of work but moved this spring to a new to us motel, much closer to home. Should you find yourself on Manitoulin Island heading for the ferry, call to make a reservation at The Buckhorn Motel only minutes from the ferry dock in South Baymouth. The motel has been renovated recently, the flower gardens are lovely, free fresh produce is available from the veggie patch, a BBQ and Griddle in the back yard Gazebo are available for guest use. Each room is equipped with a small kitchenette, which includes a microwave, coffee maker, kettle, bar sink, small fridge/freezer, real dishes and silverware, real wine glasses as well. The usual coffee, tea, creamers, sugar are also supplied. The bathrooms all include rainfall showerheads, tubs, plush towels, and the usual shampoo, conditioner, lotions, mending kits, shower caps, etc. Rates are reasonable, the rooms are clean, the folks are friendly. Call ahead, limited rooms!
A farewell feast prepared by Barb this past Sunday is greatly appreciated. Sister Jan supplied dessert. Seating for 8, way too much food, always excellent! A laughter filled event! Thanks very much!

A belated birthday wish goes to friend Linda, I’m sorry the time just slipped past before I realized. I’m sure you had a fantastic day! Early birthday wishes go out to Barb, her granddaughter Hazel, and her daughter in law Leah and sister Jan’s daughter Brittany. They all celebrate this month.

On that note I will end this post, it is a second writing as the first complete version somehow disappeared last night before I could install pics.
Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed the visit.
Until next time….
Take care, stay safe,
Deb

We seriously considered flying to Mexico as well this winter and probably would have if it wasn't for a friends golf cart that is locked up in our outdoor kitchen area. She has chosen to return to Yuma this year so we needed to get her cart out and hubby wasn't comfortable letting someone else take the surround down, remove the cart, and put the surround back up ... hence our return to the US. But I envy you going to Mexico, no I-94 worries and sandy beaches! Enjoy :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks. Maybe next year!
DeleteIt is always difficult making those kinds of choices, no one does things the way you would do it yourself and often times it is better to just do it yourself. Enjoy your time in Yuma!
Deb
Some more great photos Deb and I am wishing you and Riley the best winter in Mexico. Please think about blogging once in a while. You have a good eye for photos. Enjoy seeing your family before you go.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Sue
Thank you Sue. I’m glad you are enjoying the photos, it is always easy to take too many photos in the fall, I think I still have about 50 that I haven’t looked at yet.
DeleteWe are looking forward to a new adventure, it is definitely a learning curve just getting ready to go.
Deb
I am excited to flow your new adventure. Please take time to tell us about it. Safe travels.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lorne. I’m looking forward to something new and this just seems to be the answer.

Packing is a challenge. Also glad that for now we are full time and I don't have to transfer anything anywhere else. Somehow you will get it all sorted out soon be on a plane. Safe travels. Contessa
ReplyDeleteThanks Contessa. The packing is almost complete, there are always last minute things of course, but you are right, soon we will be off!

Wow, the time is approaching for a new adventure. I pray it is everything you're hoping for. Enjoy your family visits first. đŸ¤—
ReplyDeleteThanks Patsy. We are very much looking forward to time with family, even if it is just a couple of days. I have no doubt we will enjoy Cabo San Lucas, every thing I have heard and researched makes me think so.

It truly sounds like you and Riley are off to have a wonderful new and exciting adventure! Enjoy all the memory making moments ahead. Hugs to you both.
ReplyDeleteHugs. One of the hardest parts of our decision was the fact we will not be seeing friends. We do think it is time to test new waters and broaden our horizons. We both enjoyed our little tastes of Mexico at Los Algodones and so hopefully we will continue to enjoy the Mexican culture and people while totally submersed in it. It will be educational, entertaining and hopefully lots of fun. If nothing else we will know if we wish to return.

How exciting for you and your daughter. I'm even excited and you're the one going. I do hope you find the time to blog once in a while so all of us can get a hint of what it's like there in winter paradise. Safe travels and have a wonderful winter. Vern ( I have my snow shovel ready)
ReplyDeleteI think we could probably fold you neatly into one of the suitcases but you can't bring the shovel. Lol. We are looking forward to new sights, sounds and tastes. A new adventure in a similar climate to our previous winters. Time will tell. Have a good winter Vern.

Safe travels, hoping you have a fantastic time. Will miss seeing you both this winter.
ReplyDeleteAbove comment from Bill, On Our Way
ReplyDeleteThanks Bill. Not seeing our usual winter friends was the hardest part of our decision. We will be thinking of all of you, hoping for all good things. Enjoy your flying club! Stay safe, take care.

Love, love, love your pictures. What a magical time of the year up there. It sounds like someplace Barb and I would love to visit someday!
ReplyDeleteIt is magical in some ways. The transformation is always awesome to see but the cold damp dreary days wear the magic thin very quickly. The island is a place of sounds as much as sights, each season bringing in their own version. I think it is a place you would very much like to roll through one day.

I can imagine packing will be a different challenge! Can’t wait to hear how things are as you get settled. Things sure are pretty on Manitoulin!
ReplyDeleteThanks, the island has its own kind of magic, I just point and click, my part is very simple.
DeletePacking is always challenging for me but there are added things to remember. However it’s all going very well.
Deb
What a fabulous place to spend the summer! I'm happy to subscribe to the I'll buy it there theory. I also take along an empty bag squashed in my suitcase so I have TWO to bring home. I'm excited to see your new summer digs.
ReplyDeleteIt is a fabulous place to spend time, there is beauty no matter the day or the weather, it is just that I would prefer it to be sunny and warm.
DeleteEvery bag is only half full. lol.
Deb
I hope your winter is relaxing and fun filled. Be sure to brush up on your Spanish on the flight down. Say hi to Riley for me and Yuma.
ReplyDeleteWe hope you too have a fabulous winter. I’m sure Yuma misses heat!
