More errands today....

Our Location:

North of MM 4, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

A very nice morning, it was 52F/11C when I got up at 7 am this morning. I pulled on shorts and it was comfortable!! Yeah, we've finally found some heat, and we like it very much.

Driving on I-8 West in California heading toward Ogilby Road.

This is the popular crossing here in the Yuma area to go to Mexico for a few hours or a day trip.

Yes the hills really are that dark.

We had plans this morning but they hinged on a few things. I intended to service my generator this week but for some reason I can't find the manual or the spark plug tool. I don't remember leaving them behind but I can't find them anywhere and so I must have. I asked Doug if he the tool and he said yes, so I was going to head over there use his spark plug tool and then go on into Yuma to get a new plug, come home and do the service. However I decided it would be easier to find a Honda dealer and have them just do the service and so that's what I did. We dropped in to see Doug and Yuma for a few minutes, gave him some butter that he needed and  then headed off to Liberty Motorsports on Yuma Avenue. I'll pick it up in a day or two.

I bet that road washes out often when it rains. It's to the tower up there.

I know the regulars know the name of that casino but I know it as the place you turn to go to Mexico.

The California Agriculture Checkpoint, set up just past that Casino above. Lately they've been just waving us through.

Riley and I headed back to Walmart for a few items we forgot yesterday since we're already just down the road anyway. On the way home we opted to stop at Lin's Chinese Buffet for lunch. It was reasonable in price $26.00 for the two of us but again we found the food to be cold. We've both decided we won't go back.

These 3 pics were taken from about the same spot. This is Ogilby Road where we head for home.

It's rough until the dark pavement. You get a bit of a better idea what the desert looks like here.

We park over that way to the left. The close up area is a fee area.

Back home we decided we've done enough for the day and so have spent the rest of the day doing very little. I sat in the sun/shade to read for a few hours but have now moved inside to do my post. It's been a nice warm day and we are enjoying the heat!!

For those of you that know the area, this is American Girl Mine Road. It's virtually empty.

I think it would be safe to say you can see less than 100 rigs from the main road all the way to split.

It's just empty.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed your visit.

That's us over there through the trees, we took this from American Girl Mine Road.

We are just north of MM4, at the very edge of the dip there is a road on the right, this is the entrance.

We are the closest rig in the trees.  The Cargo Muchacho Mts in the back.

Until next time...

Take care, be safe,

Deb

  1. Chinese sounds good! There is a sushi place in Yuma that we stop at every time we are in town but the name escapes me.

    1. See I knew someone would know it. Lol
It’s just a regular service that I could have done if I could find the book and the little package of tools that came with it. I must have left it at home.

  4. It was a beautiful day with just a small breeze. Hope your Honda generator runs like a top when returned. And thanks for the stick of butter. Great pictures of the drive home from Yuma .

  5. Glad we could provide! We like that drive, it’s very familiar. I’m sure the little red Honda will run like a charm.

  6. We were at Lin's on Tuesday but we do the Mongolian BBQ so the food is always warm, I have never tried the rest of their buffet.

    1. We noticed grill area but didn’t pay much attention as we like a number of things in the buffet.

  7. How do you know which areas require a fee? It all looks wide open to me. I wonder if it's empty because it's early or because of safety reasons.

    1. The fee required areas are marked but they don’t tell you what the fee is, what it’s for (camping, dune riding, etc) nor where to ask or pay. Although I’m certain the camp host at Pilot Knob LTVA might know, or just park there, someone will come by to check and you can find out all that stuff then. Lol

    2. I think fuel prices, and food prices may have something to do with it being so empty. We were here earlier in previous years and it is usually much busier. Very few off road vehicles even in the dunes.

  8. WE wouldn't own anything but a Honda! Very reliable and so quiet. That's so cool that you do your own servicing usually. Very impressed! I remember how much George and Suzie liked the buffet. Too bad the food was cold. Glad you've found some warmth!

    1. I like my little generator, it does everything I want and need it to do. It's very quiet. It's a little oil, and a few skinned knuckles from time to time but I don't mind getting dirty. LOL.
We found it the same the first time we went and thought it was a fluke but I don't think it is.
We are so happy to be warm!!!!

  9. Yes..

I've heard others say they won't go to Lin's anymore. Sad. The casino is the "Q". I hope we make it out there. The Sports Bar has really good chicken sliders. At least I hope they still do. Yes it's strange to see the area so empty. I suppose the cost of fuel and inflation has caused changes to travel plans. Again...sad.

    1. We've never been to the casino but we might give it a try one of these days.
I do believe the cost of food and fuel has many people not doing a lot of things they once did.
