Spring is coming to Manitoulin Island......

Our Location: Tehkummah, Ontario

It's been a while since my last post but I thought I'd catch up today. The winter has pretty much ended here, although we still have some snow and more will come but it won't last long. In the past week the ground is starting to show in places, the creeks and rivers are running, the fields are showing water laying everywhere and a few spots are showing a hint of red in the far off distance of tree tops. The now present mud is everywhere and if not careful one might find themselves wallowing in a mud bath.

A few fru fru's sis and I assembled at work.

The winter has been long here, bleary, dreary and cold. A few medical issues with Riley and I as well as the Dogsled. However things are moving along and we are hopeful that getting back into the Igloo and the summer will do the trick. (for us, not the Dogsled)

Sunrise on a morning walk.

Crisp and cold on these mornings.

Around mid Feb the Dogsled just wasn't feeling well, nothing exactly but something was off. Long story short, a flatbed took him from one garage to another where he sat for about two weeks waiting for a head gasket to be delivered, and eventually he came home, full of pep and doing well.  More expensive than paying my rent for the winter but oh well, we can't move the Igloo without him. A big thanks to Dad for the loan of "Marion" his car during our time of need.

Last week this road was just one long mud lane.

The local dairy farm.

Work at the little Inn has been very quiet although it's picking up again as spring makes its entrance.  I currently do a little light housekeeping for a couple of elderly couples to help with the boredom of winter. The general agreement is spring can't arrive fast enough.

It's beautiful in the right light, isn't it?

But it's cold and damp, chilling to the bone in fact.

A few things to mention for my own future 'remembering' . Middle daughter Bradey and her hubby David are set to welcome their second child at the end of May. A brother for Auston. Nephew Jason enjoyed his trip to the far west coast of Canada where he spent about 5 weeks sledding in the mountains with friends.   Get well wishes to Connie. The entire family is doing well, healthy, happy and for the most part glad we can see spring. I've enjoyed my morning coffee with Joan this winter. We are about 6 weeks from moving back home in to the Igloo. Looking so forward to that.

Looking back the way I've come.

I will admit I've been slowly catching up on my blog reading, I just couldn't seem to read them over the winter for some reason. I'm envious of all you folks out there living the dream, soaking up the sun and scratching the hitch itch.  Al's (Travel with the Bayfield Bunch ) neck of the woods are much closer to spring than we are, but we're moving right along trying to catch up. Lorne and Sue (  A place called away )  Harold and Pat down in Mexico look to be just living the high life with daily outings and tempting food. Deb and Tom (  Celebrating the Dance   )  are teasing me with all the views they are enjoying. Thanks for the emails throughout the winter, brightened the day for sure. Doug and grandson Nick ( Miss Adventure Travels  ) are doing some great exploring and I've enjoyed all those views a great deal. Sorry to hear about the WL issues but hopefully a quick fix and you'll be on your way once more. Bill ( On our way )  and Patsy ( Chillin' with Patsy ) seem to be filling their days enjoying friends and family as well as introducing their newest family member young Master Gibbs to the RV community.  Ivan ( Road Trip )  and Hailey seem to be keeping a low profile out there in the grasslands.  Ken and Shirley ( Seeing America with Ken and Shirley ) are making me tired just reading about their busy days!  Colin and Contessa (5C's Que Pasa ) are also enjoying their new family members, a set of chocolate Doxies which they are enjoying introducing to the sights, sounds and smells of Mexico. Jim and Barb ( Jim and Barb's RV Adventure) are just wowing me with all their energy and making me chuckle often with their wit. Nice new wheels folks. Mz Kissack ( Kissack Adventures  ) is on uphill learning curve but I have no doubt you will breeze to the top with no troubles. Congrats on the big step and I'm sure you will enjoy the freedom. Rick and Kathy (It's about time ) seem to be doing well down there in the Windsor area, hopefully things continue well and you will once again be back on the road out of the cold.  I miss George and Suzie very much and think of them often. I think that about ends my reading, if I missed anyone I'm sorry.

So that about sums up this post. I hope to stop in to your blogs on a bit more regular basis but can't promise. Summer is coming and I'm truly thankful for that. I may celebrate a "thanksgiving" just for that fact alone. Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed the visit.

 Until next time,

Take care, stay safe, be healthy,

Deb

    1. We agree, it's time to stop circling and meet in the middle. LOL. We are looking forward to the fall and getting our wheels rolling again, it's been too long for us and it's time to move forward.

  2. Great pictures Deb. Winter can look so beautiful in the north. If only something could be done with the temperatures 😀.

    1. Thanks Doug. Yes the temperatures seem to be the only draw back so far. LOL. It does look beautiful but of course I didn't post the dirt snow, the broken branches, the signs of too much stress from the beauty that surrounds, but winter is what it is and it makes spring that much more enjoyable. I'm so looking forward to meeting up again! Florida is an interesting choice, a vast change from the desert!!

  4. Congratulations on the news about a new grandbaby!
Hello, nice to read your wonderful words again. Your pictures of the winter are all beautiful with the snow so white and pristine. Looking at them I could almost forget the bone chilling cold that goes along with that beauty. Almost being the key word the memory comes back quickly along with the crunchy sound and feel as you walk along. Fingers crossed next winter your pictures will include mountains, deserts, and cactus along with our paths crossing. Hugs to you and Riley.

    1. Thanks folks. I always enjoying looking at photos of winter but I have to be honest, I would rather just look, not experience it nor take the photo. LOL
We are definitely planning on mountains and deserts in the future, and cactus, all kinds of them. Friends too of course. We miss you folks. Hugs to you both.

  5. Good to see your post. Sorry to hear about the truck. It has been a long winter, not near as long here as yours. We are going to see some seventy's here this week and that is great news. (won't last but still nice). Hope both of your health problems improve. Take care. Vern in Boise Id.

    1. Hi Vernon, nice to hear from you. We won't see 70's or close to it until at least mid June (unless the seasonal temps are off), however we will enjoy the sun when we can, even if for now it's through the window. The Dogsled is a faithful companion and surgery while needed, was still a success. LOL Enjoy those warm temps Vern!

  6. Yes, it sure was a long cold winter alright. Probably longer and colder up there where you are too. With a bit of luck maybe some of we grounded Snowbirds can once again take flight and head for the good old southwest again next Fall. I liked your photos. Some of them would make nice Christmas cards. I wish you and Riley clear sailing with your health issues. And remember, tis the season for Spring Tonic so drink heartily my friends and stay well.

    1. I will admit Al, I watch your blog for signs of spring as ours comes usually about 3-4 weeks after yours. Like you folks, we are hoping to have wheels rolling for the southwest in the fall and leaving the cold behind, it would be a welcome change for us. Perhaps things will work out for all of us and the desert will welcome us back with it's warm and loving embrace.

  7. It was so good to see your blog pop up on my reading list with a new post. We are happy that you've made it through the worst of the winter and you have captured some beautiful pictures of the event. ;)
Congrats on the grandchild, and sad to hear that the Dogsled had to undergo some surgery but the result is great!
Nice sum up, hoping our paths cross in the winter ahead. Hello to Riley!

    1. Thanks Patsy. It's nice to be looking at the tail end of winter here and I'm watching with envy the warm temps you folks are soaking up, although maybe a little too warm at times. We too are looking forward to meeting up with all the wonderful friends we've made in our travels, hopefully this coming winter sees that happening.

  9. Glad to read that you are surviving the Winter. Hoping the Dogsled will be back to itself without breaking the bank.
Looking forward to reading more of your posts and future Travels.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. Thanks Rick. It looks like you folks have also managed to survive the worst of winter and are peering ahead at spring just as eagerly as we are here further in the north. The Dogsled has been a faithful companion and just needed some emergency surgery to fix the issue. Back good as new and while it was more than I wanted to spend, it was less than I could have had to spend. Considering how much work the Dogsled does, the cost was reasonable.

  10. Some might call me crazy, but I think your landscape pictures are beautiful! Beautiful or not, winter can get a little long and I bet you are looking forward to spring with the birds singing, everything thawing and the flowers blooming. Thanks for the mention in your blog!

    1. Crazy? You? Na, I never had THAT impression. LOL
Winter is beautiful but something I'd rather experience via someone else's photos, like yours for instance. We are indeed keeping an eye for spring and while it can be elusive it will make an appearance at some point in time. Robins are here already, the geese are also coming back, the sandhill cranes can be heard too. No seagulls yet but they will be arriving shortly I think. So we know spring is coming but we're always in a hurry for it.
