Fall has arrived....

Our Location: Summer Spot near South Baymouth, Ontario

There is a crispness in the early morning air on my way to coffee these days. The night's darkness fades quickly as I carefully watch the path ahead of me for critters of all kinds. A few black and white long tailed critters (or perhaps it's the same one each time) have crossed my path a few times over the summer, a porcupine or two as well. A few deer and rabbits have also been noticed moving away as I wind way along.  (written a couple of weeks ago) Now it's totally dark when I'm strolling along the path for morning coffee.

With winter closing in and no definite opening of the US land crossing Riley and I have had to make a decision regarding our winter digs and so we have once again agreed to rent the little stone house for the winter. Yes I know the border can open at any time but since we are in Northern Ontario our decisions must come a bit quicker than others.  So as of this writing we will once again be staying in the north for winter. Happy to be able to get the same house again, but not happy to be in the cold all winter. Enough said.

I thought I'd just post a few photos to update the blog. Please enjoy.

    1. Thanks Mary. You are right, the little stone house is close to everything we want to be close to and so we can't complain. Hopefully things get better and life can get back to a kind of normal.

    1. Thanks Vern, like you, we were hoping we could slip across the border or at least have hope for a light in the not so distant future but alas, it's not to be and so it is what it is. Stay warm Vern.

  3. Sorry to hear this news :( but totally understand. Believe me we are NOT happy with this administration and their stupid rules. Glad you are able to rent the little stone house once again though. Hoping we see you next year! Keep posting, always love hearing about you two and seeing your pictures!

  4. Yes, many tough decisions for we Canadians again. You are fortunate to have the stone cottage option. Your Fall colors are well on their way and ours have hardly started yet. I share your dread of winter. All the best to you and Riley.

    1. Our fall colours are very dull this year, no sheen or shine at all, not even in the sunlight or rain. They are now fading to a rotting brown quickly when they fall and not staying at all that colourful carpet for more than a day or two. The temps are dropping a bit more each day but so far we've been fortunate, I'm sure Old Man Winter will be happy to make himself known before too long. All the best to you, Kelly and Pheebes!

  5. sorry to hear of your decision but it is understandable. We all have to pull the plug at some point and at least you have a nice stone house to rent. Winter in Ontario = yeuch but it may be inevitable for us as well. :(

    1. I watched Lorne and Sue with great interest but with all things being what they are, I think us staying home again this year is the best option. Next year we will all have to caravan from the border crossing to ensure we can find our way back to the desert. haha.

  6. Sorry we won't get to meet you again this year. I feel the burden of Canadian Snowbirds has been placed squarely on my blogging back. I will try to keep you feeling warm through my words as we tour the south. We are truly feeling blessed to be travelling again.

    1. I watched you and Sue with great interest and while I would have no trouble driving to Winnipeg in a heartbeat, I think it's not an option for us. So the burden is definitely on you now, expectations are high! I'll be watching. I bet you're sweating already and not from the high temps. Haha

    1. We too were hoping to meet up again this winter but it's just not meant to be. Hopefully you and Lorne can maintain a high standard of keeping us all informed and being awed by the views!

  8. Indeed a difficult decision. Who would have thought that the border would still be closed. Personally we did just for the fun of it we looked at having the motorhome and the Jeep moved across the border and the cost of a private charter. $4200.00CAD much much too much for us. So we likely will we spending our second winter here as well. At least you have the same cottage and can make it cozy.

    1. I was certain we'd have had some direction by this time but I'm sure there are a lot of Canadians and American's alike that are surprised. I'm sure it'll come by early/mid Dec, which is much too late for us. We needed to make a renting decision and so it is what it is.
