It’s supposed to rain…..

Our Location:

Cabo San Lucas

Baja California, Mexico

I’m soon going to stop and give up, Blogger will win and I will post nothing. This is my third and final attempt.

Buenos días amigos. Cómo estás?

Good morning friends. How are you?

The heat has lessened and two days of rain are forecasted. The average daily temps are running 26/27 C or 79/80 F with the night time lows hovering no more than 5 degrees lower. Hopefully the rain washes away some dust and helps settle it down for a few days. Time will tell I suppose.

Not very appealing

Yuck……

Tequila anyone?

Talking to dad every night, it seems Old Man winter is coming with a vengeance, snow, snow, snow in the forecast. A white Christmas seems likely there this year. It appears cold and frigid north winds are also present and will remain for a while as well. Blowers, blades, shovels and mittens are all at the ready.

Our glorious Maple Leaf flies here in the harbour of Cabo San Lucas.

The marina is a very busy spot.

It is pretty.

Daily life is quiet, unassuming and predictable here. People are very friendly, very warm and welcoming. Their pace of life is very different and something I struggle with. Poco a poco, little by little or step by step, I’m getting better. We have been to the beach, the marina and the local shopping plaza. We are choosing an activity that is of interest to us both. We have both opted to bypass the camel rides.

We stopped here for a cerveza fría ( cold beer).

At the shopping plaza.

Testing my walking abilities one day.

I have chatted with Deb and Tom a few times. Once we even managed to have coffee together after the delivery of a can opener here to our little spot. It is always fabulous to chat with them, we managed to get caught up and have a few laughs at the same time. I see more morning coffees in the future. Deb is back to blogging and mentioned that some pictures from us might be nice. Deb I have delivered.

The beach is pretty.

A cruise ship leaving the harbour.

The beach is near the end of the Palm trees.

A different cruise ship.

I’m learning a little Spanish which in some ways reminds of my high school French, so it is not like starting from zero, after all I already knew 5 Spanish words before I arrived. I’m hoping to be able to at least understand things I read, even in a general way, it would be most helpful. However we shall see what time brings.

A tree outside one of the resorts.

Feliz Navidad, Merry Christmas to all. We wish for this season to be filled with peace and love, inclusion and acceptance. We hope for ALL to be with those they love and cherish, to be safe, warm and happy. To have full bellies, no worries and to know true joy. Peace on earth and goodwill toward ALL, man, woman and child. It is within us all to achieve some measure of giving, even just a warm smile, handshake or hug, brighten a day, show some compassion, it doesn’t have to cost you a dime, it just has to be genuine, come from the heart.

A song that I’ve listened to many times over the years. The events are old but we can all insert the newest events easily. It is as relevant today as it was back in the day. A bonus ( if the link works) is the song is performed by a Canadian of world renowned Anne Murray.

Hasta la próxima, until next time.
Gracias por pasar por aquí, thanks for stopping by….

Take care, stay safe,

Deb

A very windy, sleepy, dusty desert day……

Our Location:

BLM Ogilby Rd, Winterhaven, California

The dust is obscuring pretty much everything here even though we have no wind advisories. We cannot see the Dunes, the Ogilby Hills or the Cargo Muchacho mountains which normally surrounds us with their magically ever changing views. The air closer to the ground  is a different hue of grey/brown that changes gradually as one raises the eye upwards to the beautiful blue sky that seems to rest atop of the wall of grey/brown. The air smells of dust, and tastes of dust if one is outside at all. In fact just looking out the window makes me think I can almost taste it anyway. The wind is relentless, seeking to make every little moveable thing on a rig squeak, whistle, groan or flap. It finds crevices that the eye can’t see, it pushes dust through the slightest hint of any opening, it blows dust past our windows much like Old Man Winter batters the snow back home in Ontario. Much like back home the bushes and trees here are leafless right now but they too add to the music, creaking and rubbing against each other and the ground. The sun high above us is a constant and we are thankful for its cheerful presence. Winter in the desert is as varied as winter in Ontario, it is never boring!

Riley and I had breakfast at Cracker Barrel

Lots of picking going on near Yuma.

So a quick catchup, no pictures to prove what I say but you will have to take my word for it. When last I posted, friends Kim and Ken had left, they have since returned, following the arrival first of friends Deb and Tom, and new to us friends, Joan and Dave, from our home province of Ontario. Joan and Dave have just left for a week but promise to return. Deb, Tom, Riley and I have ventured to Los Algodones and once just Deb, Tom and I made the trip to Los Algodones, Riley opted out due to recovering from the dreaded Crud Cold! She is much better. No, I didn’t leave her here all by herself while I was away, Joan and Dave were parked across the yard on the off chance she needed something, which she didn’t.

This would be Ken and Kim returning to the yard.

Sunset Jan 25.

Calls to dad nightly keeps me informed of all the goings on up there. Snow, wind, snow, wind, 5 minutes of what they think might be sunshine, but as yet no confirmation on that, followed by snow and wind. I think you must be getting the idea by now, it’s definitely winter in Northern Ontario. Chats with my sister, both her and her other half have the Crud Cold as well. It seems to be everywhere.  Brother Rick and SIL Barb are doing well, and keeping busy.

Can you see the 3 aircraft?

The Ocotillos have a smidge of green.

A few things of note:

Belated birthday wishes to Robert, celebrated on the 7th. I have no doubt you had a great day.

Birthday wishes to Hudson, as today is the actual day, but the party was this past Saturday! I know everyone had a grand time skating, sledding, roasting things over the pit bonfire and the afternoon festivities were followed by a huge spaghetti dinner! Happy Birthday Buddy!

Condolences to Lori, Tim, Steve and Paul on the passing of their sister Audrey just two days ago. Audrey and I were pretty close for a some years but sadly we drifted apart as the years passed. Her smile and laughter were infectious, a huge heart and wicked sense of humour will forever be my memories of her. Taken too soon at 62 years of age. RIP Cuz!

A festive courtyard in Los Algodones.

Two casserole dishes I purchased.

I have chatted with SIL Janet here in California, and due to her health it appears we may not get to visit this winter. We had trouble contacting her due to the theft of her phone while on the way to a doctors appointment. We have managed to connect via round about methods. It is amazing how crippled our communication gets when we no longer actually know the phone numbers of those important people we need to contact.

A fountain in the courtyard near the dentist office.

Looking the opposite way as the fountain.

So I suppose that is enough catching up for today. I must apologize to all of you but I am truly struggling to read, write and comment on blogs. I just can’t seem to get back into that groove. In fact I take very few photos anymore. I just don’t seem to have any interest. I anticipate very few posts from me in the future.

Take care, stay safe,

Deb

Friends ....

Our Location:

Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

I know I'm getting to be a real sluggard when it comes to posting a blog. I apologize but oh well, we aren't really doing lots of exciting things but we are putting in every day and enjoying it greatly.

Ken and Kim coming back from Q.

Cabbage has been cut in this field.

Things are still growing in this one.

Friends, Ken and Kim (Journey with Ken and Kim ) have returned, and are once again parked in their previous spot. It is fun to have such a nice couple join our neighbourhood. We all tend to laugh a lot, and along with Deb and Tom ( Celebrating the Dance ), Riley and I seem to be able to pass the time in a very enjoyable manner.

The sands of Tumco.

Ken and Kim inspecting Tumco!

That is hard packed sand, driven by wind and water until it has piled up.

Light tan colour is the sand of the Imperial Dunes, way off in the distance.

We have all journeyed to Los Algodones, Mexico for some shopping, eating and a few adult libations and are considering another trip tomorrow. We enjoyed the sights, sounds and fun that comes with each trip there. I managed to bring home a few little things of interest for some folks back home.

Grocery cart in the grocery store in Los Algodones, Mexico

We had drinks and food here at La Prilla.

We enjoyed looking at the stock in the grocery store.

Not like back home but it was interesting.

We did not have a drink at this bar, but at at the one nearby.

The outside area is where we enjoyed a drink.

Some items near our table.

Ken and Shirley ( Seeing America with Ken and Shirley ) arrived for a quick visit on Wed Feb 14, and stayed with us for a few days, enlarging our neighbourhood a little. It is always fun to get together with this wonderfully dear couple. They are warm and generous and we are honoured that they come all this way to spend some time with us. They departed Saturday morning, heading for home as appointments are drawing near.

L to R: Ken W, Kim, Shirley, Ken K, and John

Riley, Keith, Tom and Deb D. Somehow I missed Brenda. Sorry Brenda.

Ken and Shirley pulling in with the Mansion.

Keith also came back for a quick visit, he and Oreo pulled in not long after Ken and Shirley. They stayed only one night but it was a fun visit and we wish Keith and Oreo safe travels as they headed off down the road on Thursday, Feb 15.

Ken and Shirley heading out on Saturday, Feb 17.

But before they left....a many people selfie

They are the sweetest couple!!

Gerry and Elva came out for a visit on Friday, Feb 16, it was a couple of hours of laughter, chatting and just good fun but all too soon they too headed off home. Unfortunately I have no pictures to document this visit, but I assure you, it did happen.

Some pictures from atop a large hill near the power lines.

There is something alluring here for me.

I never tire of the views.

A few campfires had us all around the ring, looking at the stars, the moon and the clouds. The laughter just continued seeming not to stop. We were all treated to a few wonderful concerts when Ken pulled out his guitar, and sang to us a number of songs. The man has a great deal of talent and it was a great time listening to him. We look forward to another one or two before we all part company.

The line is in the rock, they are everywhere, wide, narrow, smooth, pointy.

Deb and Tom's Jeep sitting over there.

All of those white lines are a line of rock pressed between two others.

That yellow dot is Tom, he's digging for something.

We discovered Mr. Jenson's Outdoor facilities, they even have a sign in book.

John and Brenda ( John and Brenda's Incredible Journey ) have returned from other places to park once again just down the laneway from us. They have been up to visit with us while the neighbourhood was at it's peak.

I climbed up those rocks to get a few pictures. It isn't nearly as bad as it looks.

The views are pretty good. Lots of green out there.

Once I would have climbed up there, but not now.

I keep referring to the white lines, you can see this line is not white but pointy and plain.

Far off mountains, dunes and just desert. I love it out here.

Distances are deceptive in the clear desert air.

If you listen closely you can hear them calling me.....

The little stone hut.....with no roof.

The Ocotillos in the wash near Mr Jenson's Outdoor Facilities.

Calls back to the Island have kept us up on the happenings going on there and we can report things are good there, a few bumps but other wise all is well. Some snow, some blizzard like conditions and some cold weather seems to be the topic of this past week.

It's a very soft whisper....can you hear it....

The sun blazes down and without the wind it becomes very hot, stifling at times.

It is very rough in places, but not always impassable.

A vein of quartz, this happens to be a bit pinky.

Looking up from that vein in the above pic.

Plans to visit sister in law Janet in Indian Wells has been put on hold as she has a very bad cold.  She was admitted to the hospital last night to undergo a few rounds of IV antibiotics. As of this writing the fever is almost gone and she is hoping to get back home tomorrow.

We are happy to hear that our friends Al and Kelly ( The Bayfield Bunch ) are doing well. Al recently had hip surgery and seems to be managing well, and Miss Kelly is of course taking wonderful care of him. Pheebes is watching over both of them.

The desert is not flat, but it looks it.

Washes/arroyos riddle the desert floor.

This hillside just sparkles in the sunshine but the camera cannot pick it up.

I would love to climb up there but I will not.

The line again, can you see it in the right side of the pic?

Today's pics were taken over the last 10 days. I hope you enjoy them.

Until next time....

Take care, stay safe,

Deb
