Our Location:
Walmart, Sweetwater, Texas
We left the Van Horn rest area (MM 144 on I 10 East) this morning at 8 am, the sun was just breaking over the horizon as we pulled out. The stop was good, a bit noisy but nothing over the top. Cold this morning, 44 F/ 6 C or close enough. Windy today too, another headwind even though we changed directions. The Big Dog enjoyed the fuel while working at the forward progress. Our total mileage today was 297 miles/478 km. We used approx 27 gallons of fuel, we paid $3.79, and $ 3.99 respectively. One must pay attention as Loves/Pilot and such are over a dollar a gallon more. We've found Xpress Fuel has big spaces for rigs both at the pumps and at the truck fuel. A good driving day for us. The roads were okay, a few rough patches, a few narrowing of lanes but over all good. We stopped a few times to stretch and freshen ourselves up a bit. We arrived here at about 1:30 pm CDT, so 5 1/2 hours, we can't complain. We hope to do one more day like this tomorrow and from there we will shorten our days a bit.
The Snyder Field rest area had this interesting interactive display.
This one is first....... |
followed by a flight simulator of sorts. |
Cute little picnic areas. Overall it was very clean and a good place to stop for the night if you wanted to. |
What would a drive through Texas be without showing some oil derricks? |
Thanks for stopping by, I hope you had a wonderful day. A note, Happy Birthday Joan!!! We hope you've had an incredible day.
Until next time....
Take care, stay safe,
Deb
They have some of the nicest rest stops in the US, way nicer than the ones I have seen in Canada.
ReplyDeleteBy far, they are much more interesting and pretty. Ontario has some nice onRoutes stops but not nearly as clean. We do have much better parking areas though, bigger with wider spots, just as confusing to find though. Lol

The TX rest stops shure look inviting! Still looks like you're getting some pretty decent mileage.
ReplyDeleteContinued safe travels.
Texas rest areas for the most part are very pretty. We are still getting decent mileage and I have no complaints. I only include those things for reference and for those that are curious. Thanks Jeff.

Nice rest areas and you're making good time. The weather is getting much better in the midwest. Enjoy your evening and roadtrip tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteThey are pretty, and we are hustling right along, if all goes well we will have a two day stop available to us as we get closer to the border. The weather looks good and we are hoping it stays that way.

Glad to here that you are making good time. Nice fuel prices, safe travels.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bill. We hope to keep rolling along and putting those miles behind us. Fuel prices are interesting and hopefully a sign that things will get better, but the truck stops are still in the mid to high $4 range.

Continued safe travels. Glad the weather is good and you are making good time.
ReplyDeleteThanks Patsy, we just pointing the Big Dog and he keeps rolling pulling the Igloo along without breaking into a sweat. We too are happy with the weather.

That is an interesting rest area. Thank you for the heads up about the diesel prices. Fingerscrossed the wind is not with you tomorrow or at least not a headwind. Continued safe travels...hugs
ReplyDeleteIt is an interesting rest area, located near Snyder Field Rd on I 20. The prices vary and the truck stops are still much higher but there are some easy in and outs if you watch. We are looking forward to no winds today and tomorrow, or none like we have had. Hugs for you and Tom.

You stop at the most interesting places. I can't believe Flying J/Pilot are charging so much more than anyone else. Most of the truckers still stop there I guess, so they keep the prices high.
ReplyDeleteIt's luck! LOL. It was just a rest stop and we needed a break. We try not to stop too often but some days I need to give the knuckles a rest, and empty my tank. LOL.
DeleteI think it's a crime that truckers are being gouged so badly. There is really no need of it.
