Another wonderful night followed by another excellent day for weather. We're loving this warm weather and the warm nights are just what we would ask for if we dared. ~laugh~ Windows and vents open all day and night, the big door open while we're home and I can tell you we didn't close it until about 9 pm tonight and it's still nice and toasty in the Igloo. Just right for sleeping.

I woke early, around 4:30 am and just kind of puttered in time until around 6 am when I decided I'd head up to the fire pit and build the morning fire but Mac was just starting to get to it as I was heading up. It was a nice fire that managed to attract all the same faces, Mac, me, Paige, Mike, Pete and Robert. After I left about 8 am I think Billy and Pat showed up around the outer ring as well.

A bagel for breakfast and we were off to the track to walk around 8:30 am. Riley put in her 2 miles and I danced around for one more after that before leaving a bit before 10 am. We both discussed the fact that we can stop or keep going to fill our needs at this park and so we may just walk here most times. Seems to be easier to make that decision than any other or maybe we're just lazy and it's easier to do the 'norm'. ~laugh~

Dogsled nose was heading south until turned onto US 90 West, stopping at Wally's place to get some diesel for the big Dog. Just under a quarter of a tank of fuel left and it took over 27 gallons, so I know we have a big tank. Fuel was $2.22 per gallon but I seen it later down the road for $2.18 per gallon, if only I'd waited. Our nose pointed west we drove about 40 minutes passing thru the little towns of Pass Christian, Bay St. Louis, and Waveland on our way the Louisiana/Mississippi state line where we dropped into the Infinity Center at Nasa's Stennis Space Center located in the Pearl River area.

Our visit here included the bus ride to the off limits parts of the Nasa base where they test rocket engines for the space exploration programs. We needed to show our passports in order to get on the bus tour, it lasted for about 40 minutes and took us to see 3 engine test facilities as well as a rolling monologue from the driver about the scene outside the window.  The base has it's own little 'town' that includes things like post office, gas stations, restaurants, college campus', fire department, security guards, as well as numerous office buildings and research labs. It's a community all of it's own and the only thing that isn't found on the base is housing, no one lives there, they commute each day except for the training center in which they are housed in a dorm like building for a week while in training. An interesting place with a few guard shacks that require ID to enter the base which the average individuals do not possess. The area of testing is located in the middle of 215 square miles of Nasa owned land. The large tract of land is necessary due to the noise and possible damage the testing of rockets can cause to an individual who is unprotected. The test facilities structures are massive in size and at one time they test fired 5 at once, now it's only at a time.

Also on the base is a set of locks that raise the water level 17 feet from the lower to the upper river. Also this river and lock system is where special forces practice for clandestine work in areas that include locks.  It's an ideal training area as it's very private and well guarded.

After our guided bus tour we entered the Infinity building to take a walk around. A number of exhibits were interactive in nature and there was a bit of reading to go along with each activity. We checked out a few but weren't interested in others. We both did a test flight in a stationary simulator, we both crashed. ~laugh~ However we did not go into the hydraulically controlled simulator that required rider participation to steer, nor did we enter the hurricane like room in which you experience the effects of the wind during a hurricane. Fred Hayes who hails from the town of Biloxi, Mississippi is featured in the center as he was one of the three astronauts aboard Apollo 13 which barely made it back home to earth. Among some of the items on display is his space suit from that trip, along with a suit worn by Neil Armstrong while he walked on the moon. The local home town hero is very much loved by those at the Infinity Center.

The Stennis Space Center  and an air craft carrier are named after John C Stennis a governor from the area. It's always nice when local folks remember where they came from when they get into positions of being able to help their small hometowns.

We left there under blue skies and enjoyed the drive along I-10 back to exit 28 a short distance from home. At one point we had a slow down on the drive as tail lights became a constant stream ahead of us. It bottle necked from two lanes to one lane as police did an auto accident re-enactment for measurements and determination of what happened. Took about 5 minutes to get thru and back up to highway speed.

Back home about 2 pm we managed to find some lunch and then spent the rest of the day just being lazy. You know the kind of things we do like reading and talking on the phone and reading. ~laugh~ I managed to read for the entire afternoon and in fact Riley was the one that prepped everything for dinner tonight. She did an excellent job!!!

About 6:30 pm I was still sitting outside reading when Miss Riley asked me who was going to BBQ dinner. ~laugh~ I took that as a sign she was hungry. I BBQ'd dinner and we were inside eating about 7:30 pm. JD Smokehouse BBQ Chicken breast, orange zest veggies, and Garlic potatoes with onions. I know it always seems like we have the same thing each night but it's not always the case, with different BBQ sauces on the chicken the taste is very different, we often change up the veggies too and the potatoes are often times spiked with different spices to add a wee bit of a variation in flavour.

A quick clean up inside and out then we headed up to the fire pit for an evening fire. It was a wonderfully warm night but the mosquitoes were out and about in full swing. Good conversation around the pit and a few laughs as well as an education about some 'southern' food that I truly wish I didn't know!! ~laugh~ However it was a good time. Magic the camp cat hung around as well, sitting on Miss Riley's lap for a while. The evening fire crew included Mac, Mike, Trish (Mike's wife), Billy, Charlene, Riley, myself and Pete came along too.

Home around 9:15 pm I shut the big door and called it a night. Started writing my blog but I fell asleep once and decided to finish it today. So that's why it's late. ~laugh~ Thanks for stopping by, feel free to leave a comment. Until next time...be safe, take care...

Dining out, errands, and a present for ME......

A very warm night last night, again we slept with the windows/vents open without being chilly in the least. Today was another beautiful day with brilliant blue skies and warm temps. We reached a high of 80F/26.6C this afternoon and we have no complaints of any kind.

This morning's trip to the fire was just about 6 am and Mac was only getting it going, the fog was dense and the fire helped to guide me to the right locale. Thicker than soup was the fog at that wee hour of the morning. The darkness of course added to the inability to see much. Mac and I chatted for about a half hour or forty-five minutes before Paige joined us and then Mike followed by Pete and a bit later by Pat. Robert also popped by for a few minutes to gather himself a cup of coffee/hot chocolate mix. Magic spent some time on my lap before moving over to Mac's and I tried to convince Mac that the cat would make a perfect companion for him, but I'm not sure I convinced him. ~laugh~

Headed home to start the house cleaning exercise for the day. Never takes long but boy I just hate to get started some days. I think I'm lazy or something but well what can I say some days it's just harder than others. We managed to make short work of the chore and were finished within the hour and moved on to having some breakfast. Making some decisions about the day ahead.

We started our walk at 9:30 am this morning at the walking path, a nice day for it. We encountered Miss Paige just finishing her mile lap as we were just getting started. For our last half a lap a fellow walked stride for stride with us, even though he caught up to us on the south end straight away, and we discussed of all things how Newfoundland may have been settled by pirates. His family came from Newfoundland and so I asked him if he was telling us his ancestors were crooks and thieves. ~laugh~ He was undecided about that fact!!!! We finished our 2 mile walk in about 50 minutes and both called it off.

From the walking park we turned left and hit the Dollar General Store, not literally of course. We wanted to get a few more Damp Rid's to take home to Canada with us. I find that they work well for the moisture content that seems to be an issue in certain areas of the Igloo. We need a few more but will get them another day. I also managed to find some hooks I wanted for the closet by the entry door. Riley on the other hand managed to find some Oatmeal cookies she wanted. So you see we all found something we wanted. ~laugh~

From there we hung a right, squealed the tires and sped off to the Passport America office to pay our rent for two more weeks, after that we'll play it by ear and figure out about going home. Friendly ladies in the front office are always very helpful and so very kind making us feel like family!!! It's a nice feeling.

A right out of there onto Bells Ferry Road and a two wheeled turn onto Tucker Road brought us to the Igloo a few minutes before 11 am. Can you believe the morning was mostly already gone by then? Where does the time go and how does it go so fast?   Before we knew it 11:30 am rolled around and a silver truck went scooting past the door, we jumped up sliding our feet into our shoes and slipped down the stairs into the Dogsled to follow this truck. It was nip and tuck for a while as it sped ahead but we managed to catch it's tail lights just as it turned into the Rusty Pelican and we followed close on it's hitch. It's Monday which means Red Beans and Rice is the special. Billy, Charlene, Mac, Riley and I  were the only ones there from the park but it was still a great time. We had a chance to chat with Billy & Charlene getting to know them a bit better and enjoyed some good food as well. 

Bought these rope lights a while back at Harbor Freight! I think they'll light up our regular camp spot on the Island quite well!!

From there Riley and I once again got the tires turning while heading up to the Interstate for a quick jaunt over to Hwy 49, Gulfport's main drag. We were looking for Lowe's Home Improvement Store and wouldn't you know it, we found it just where Bella said it would be. She's a smart US gal that Miss Bella but she could tell us to turn a bit sooner, I've talked to her about that but she doesn't listen to me. ~laugh~  I bought myself a Christmas Present today, yes I know it's not Christmas but I waited to buy it instead of hauling it everywhere we went. I bought myself an 18V DeWalt Reciprocating Saw as I already have the drill with two batteries. I'm sure I'll find some good use for this saw at our regular camp site on the Island. 

Titanium/aluminum table purchased a few days ago for $15 instead of $50 I paid back in Ontario Canada a few years ago.

After leaving Lowe's turning the big Dogsled north we stopped at place I've passed many times and always wondered about it, The Treasure Hunt, which ended up being like a Goodwill/liquidation store. The next stop was Walmart just a bit further up the street where we didn't purchase a thing and after that we headed home. 

This is my original table bought in Ontario, still good but it's so light weight and easily packed away/set up that finding another one at such a good price was pure luck!!!

The rest of the afternoon was spent outside reading, chatting with my buddy Ron and just enjoying the great warm weather. Ron and I chatted about his using the solar system on his motor home on the way back to his home, how well it worked and the amount of time and appliances used, I think we were both a bit surprised at how well the system did!! I'm looking forward to getting to use my own system in a few weeks time when we head home. It should make the summer easier in terms of charging our electronics and watching some movies on those long fall evenings.

Five o'clock ...somewhere but no we weren't drinking any booze, just water! ~laugh~ Time to start prepping dinner, cutting up veggies, potatoes, etc. Read a bit more until it was time to start cooking about 6:30 pm. So quiet and peaceful here in the park, truly a nice place to spend your time.

Friend Roger's BBQ sauce on our chicken breast, Thyme Veggies with orange zest, Garlic potatoes with onions were all on the menu for dinner tonight. Some good stuff I assure you. We were just starting to eat when the daylight finally faded about 7:40 pm. We didn't close the big door until after 8:30 pm and only then because we were finished the clean up and trash trip, heading off in our own directions so that meant no one would be back down in the living room. 

So as you can see it was a nice day spent with some interesting folks, doing some errands, being good to ourselves and just enjoying the day, the weather, and the warmth. Who could ask for more?

Walking, flea market, and enjoying the warm.....

A very nice night, we slept with windows and vents open still managing to wake up and get dressed without shivering all while having NO heat on at all. Yeah.....looks like this might be the kind of weather we have from here until the end of our stay. The day was nice as well, warm without being too warm, a little breeze, a few clouds, and all of them seeming to come at just the right time to keep us from being too warm in the 76F/24C weather today.

I woke up late around 6:30 am but wasn't in any hurry as I doubted anyone would have a fire going but Mike seemed to be the man today and had the fire going when I looked out the window about 7 am. Me and my water bottle headed up to the fire where it was just Mike and I for a bit, we chatted about a number of different things and although Mike hails from about 3 hours north of here in Jackson, MS his strong Louisiana accent says he's lived there for some time. He lived there for a number of years but was born in Missouri, I guess you could say he's been around. ~laugh~ 

Mac came strolling up a bit later to join in the chatter and Magic the camp cat came by to have some attention lavished on her and perched herself on my lap content to have me scratch under her chin for a some time. She also ended up on Mac's lap but I think he scratches to hard and she laid some teeth marks on his hand, nothing too much but enough to say 'don't do that'. Back to me for some more attention where she took interest in the string on my hoodie but I wouldn't let her chew the plastic cap on the ends of the string so she left in a bit of a snit. ~laugh~ Curling up on the chair behind Mac, kind of out of sight. Pete wandered up and then Pat almost in his footsteps as well. We discussed how the cat wouldn't be fed today as no one works and the dish was empty but upon leaving the fire I grabbed both dishes from the log cabin, brought them home, washed them, filled them up with cat food and water, returning them to the cabin while taking our trash to the dumpster.

Home and after my breakfast of 'little bales of hay' as Riley calls my mini shreddies we headed out to the sports complex for our morning walk. It was very nice, not too hot and although there were a number of vehicles there we didn't encounter many people. It seems most people come for one lap which is one mile and then leave. Riley and I went two rounds before she called it a day and I went 3 before thinking that was enough for the day.We both agreed that while this path isn't exactly exciting it's good for us since we can go different distances without having the other person cut short or extend their own walk. Which means that when Miss Riley is happy at ending after 2 miles I can still go one more just because I feel the need to get rid of some excess energy. Works well huh? ~laugh~

 

From there we headed back toward the campground but bypassed the doorway for a couple of miles. We once again made our way to the flea market on Menge Road. We bought some interesting spice called Swamp Dust, and a couple of other little samplers to try, along with some veggies from a couple of vendors there. We didn't listen to the Charlie Adams the one man band this time but we did enjoy his music during our last visit.

From there we headed back to the Igloo and can you guess the time? 11:35 am. It's like we have a built in sensor or something. ~laugh~ Since I was making some salad for lunch I also chopped up veggies for dinner at the same time, which works out great and saves time. Today's veggies were green beans, mushrooms, carrots, asparagus, peppers, and celery along with some orange zest and juice. Wrapped in tin foil it sat in the fridge until after 6 pm so the flavours had time to mingle!!!!

Outside to read for a while in fact I spent most of the afternoon outside in and out of the sun/shade just reading and enjoying the weather. I also called my friend Boots, but left a message as her and her loved one weren't home to take my call. I chatted with my sister for a while as well, she sounds pretty chipper these days but wouldn't agree to come down and house clean for us. ~laugh~ I can tell you with out a doubt this is my kind of weather, I just love it. We will once again leave the windows and vents open tonight for good sleeping!!

There are numerous squirrels around here always chattering, rushing back and forth, a number of birds including wrens, wood peckers and a small red bird that wasn't big enough to be a cardinal but was completely red, along with the noisy Canadian's by the pond, those two geese make more noisy than anything else around. They even chase off the white egrets from the pond and the little stream here on the property. Of course Magic the cat came by our Igloo for a visit today and Her Royal Highness was NOT impressed.  They had a staring contest in which they both tried to out stare the other while pretending they weren't noticing the other.  Neither one made a sound though, just sat there eyeing the other it was funny. ~laugh~ 

Tomorrow is Monday which of course means cleaning day but also Red Beans & Rice at the Rusty Pelican. We missed it last week for some reason that I can't remember.  I mentioned it to Mac this morning as well as Pete & Pat, Mac is a go but the P's aren't, I'll mention it to Mike & Trish and Billy & Charlene tomorrow and hopefully a few of them will tag along.

I chatted with Billy & Charlene a bit after dinner on the trash run tonight. They appear to be in good spirits and were nattering at each other so I think all is well. ~laugh~ They were inquiring about Riley and how well she's managing here, how sweet she is and of course how she seems to be enjoying herself. Riley has certainly changed a great deal on this trip and all of it for the better. I'm so proud of her stepping out of her comfort zone and doing so well. She makes an effort and is rewarded in a positive way each time!! The folks on this trip have really knowingly or unknowingly helped her tremendously and I am sincerely grateful to each and every one of them!!

Finished my book this afternoon, it was an excellent read and I didn't remember the ending before getting to it. ~laugh~ Might be an age thing involved there!! I truly do enjoy reading Robert Ludlum's books and will look for them again when I search for books at the next available book sale. I started another book while cooking dinner, The Judge by Steve Martini, so far it's pretty good. I've read a few of his books and have enjoyed them as they are page turners and keep my interest with apparent ease. 

Dinner was a combined effort.

Dinner was the above mentioned veggies and sweet Italian sausages BBQ'd, while inside Miss Riley cooked spaghetti. We then mixed it all together and I can tell you it was good, filling and Riley made enough spaghetti for her to have some leftovers for lunch this week. 

Clean up inside and out,walk to the dumpster,  showers and we each headed off in our own directions. A fantastic day with nothing exciting happening but the weather is marvy!!!!! Thanks for stopping by, I hope your day was as peaceful as ours. Until next time...be safe, take care...

 

 

 

 

 

Beautiful day....

A warmer night last night was nice for sleeping but we kept the windows and vents closed, a bit too cool in here in the morning if we don't. Up shortly after 6 am but didn't see any movement around the fire pit, so I just stayed home, looked again when it was pushing toward 7 am and noticed Robert up there doing his thing. Just Robert and Magic the camp cat there when I arrived. Mike showed up a bit later, then Paige and finally Mac and Pete as well.  Magic the camp cat spent a lot of time on my lap this morning as she enjoyed the attention. The others are not so happy to have her around but I think she's a smart cat that will figure out who to stay away from in the future. Some interesting ideas around the fire this morning regarding Charles Manson, the death penalty and Trumps budget.

Home and had breakfast before Riley and I headed out to get our morning walk in at the sports complex. We managed 3 miles in 1 hr and 10 minutes. It was a bit warm but not bad. Three fields of little league baseball players in the inner circle of the walking path. Lots of vehicles and people which was unusual for the area since we've been walking there. Lots of others using the track as well today.

Leaving there we went down to the Wally World for a few things and came out much poorer than we went in. ~laugh~ Some things we've been needing, some we've been thinking about getting and well you get the idea. Came out with a new hot/cold bag, baseball glove, boiled peanuts and a few other things. Some we'll keep, some we'll give away. I'll let you worry about which is which.

Home about 11:30 am we  managed to get things put away before the lunch hour was upon us. I enjoyed my book while eating my salad, it's getting to the good part now. ~laugh~

Riley and I headed to the dumpster to dispose of trash before heading out behind the ponds to play a little bit of catch since Riley didn't play ball last year we thought she might need some practice before we get back to the island this year. We didn't play long, just 10 minutes but that's enough for today, we'll get a few minutes in each day and before she knows it she'll be back in some kind of base ball form. Or at least that's the plan. ~laugh~ 

Home to read some more and enjoy the warmth. I tried to fix the couch cushions with Velcro a number of days ago but it didn't work well. The cat sits on the backs of the cushions pushing them down and so they sag somewhat. I thought I might be able to hold them back up with some Velcro as there is already some on them. It's too difficult to sew the Velcro strips to the back of the couch, and the fabric glue I got today didn't work either, so I'll have to think of something else. Since the back of the couch is corduroy I think it some how stops the glue from working properly. Oh well, I'll give it some more thought and come up with something.

Heard Mac yelling earlier, seems Billy and Charlene are back in the camp now. They arrived an hour or so ago. I do hope his knee operation goes well this time. He's had some serious trouble with it in the past.

The sun seemed to be clouded out this afternoon by around 4 pm but the warmth was still around. Both Riley and I have noticed the extreme warmth of the sun's rays here even at this time of the year. Once it rises the temps usually go up pretty quickly and without any cloud cover and breeze it would be very hot here. There is almost always a bit of a breeze there though and if not we can go down to the beach if we feel the need. Always nice to have options, isn't it?

We can now play catch and get Riley ready for the summer! Glove on the left is new.

Along about 4:30 pm I made up our turkey burgers for dinner and prepped the rest of the food. Even with overcast skies we'll be BBQing as we haven't done that for a while now. More reading before cooking.

Started cooking about 6:30 pm, nice outside, although some mosquito's around. Chatted with Pat about her cooking some fish tomorrow night and about the fire tonight. Dinner was ready about 7:30 pm. Turkey burgers, orange zest veggies, garlic onion potatoes. Some good stuff!!!

Quick clean up inside and out, a call from my dad as he'll be out tomorrow night so I won't be able to reach him. Says they tapped about 75 trees today, hope it's a good year, I could use some syrup. ~laugh~

Two games of Yahtzee, Riley cheated in both of them, she rolled a yahtzee TWICE. ~laugh~ I'll have to pay more attention next time. ~wink~

Warm, sunny, productive day....

A much warmer night and the day that followed was also a much warmer day. I think we're over the cold weather hump now. Looks like clear sailing until we have to leave. 

Up this morning before 6 a.m., greeted by Miss Riley looking for some pain meds for a headache. Very odd for her to be up at this hour. Donned my freshly laundered fire clothes and headed for the morning fire. There wasn't one!!! Cold dark fire pit with no movement of any kind. Hm.....I wonder, oh well, I spent some time in the log cabin with Magic the camp cat, she purred and half laid on my knee for a while but then it was time to call it enough for the scratching behind the ear and off she went. I headed home to find something to do.

Having breakfast I happened to glance out the window and there was a fire going in the fire pit with Robert standing near by, so my direction was clear when I finished eating. Mac and Robert were there and we chatted for a bit before a fella named Trent from Florida stopped by for a brief chat. After Trent left, Robert left, Pete & Pat came along, soon Riley came along and we all had a nice chat.  Magic the cat climbed back on my lap for a while during our chat and was quite content to stay there, finally moving to a chair of her own. It's now getting to be about 9 am when a motor home pulls in and it's some guy named Mike, the others know him, he seems to be a regular. Riley and I head home as we have things to do today and it's getting to be late in the morning for us.

During our fire side chat we learned that Lisa and Buzz are home, Ron and Sharon are close to home, and that Lisa loves the new reno's!! So we are quite well informed now.
 
Home we change into short pants, climb into the Dogsled and head off to the sports complex for our walk. We haven't walked for a week but today was the beginning of getting back into that routine, we managed two laps before saying it was enough. ~laugh~ How lazy we get with a little time off.

We pulled out Phoebe, our newest and most updated GPS to find a grocery store I've heard a number of people mention named Fruggels. It's about 6 or 7 miles away but we opt to head there anyway. It's an uneventful drive and I've driven past it many times while never noticing it. It's very much like Piggly Wiggly and the prices were pretty good. Produce will definitely be purchased there along with a few other things but we still need to have a stop at Walmart for a few things we couldn't get at this store. We did manage to find a number of things that we were looking for and while there I called Bradey to see if we can get a couple of things in Canada, which according to her we can, so I didn't buy them here.

After the grocery store (we didn't buy anything needing to be kept cool or cold) we headed into something called Tuesday Morning, not a store I would be going back to unless I need bedding or linens. From there we headed off to the Family Dollar but it was closed, empty windows staring back at us, we moved across the lot to the Big Lots store. I like Big Lots, not a great store but you can sometimes get some pretty good deals if you look carefully enough and today was our lucky day. We found another Aluminum /titanium folding table for only $15, the one we currently have we paid over $45 for it about 5 years ago.  So as you can see it was a very productive trip.

We managed to get home by shortly after 12:30 pm, unloaded, put things away, started making lunch, and since I was chopping up veggies for a salad I just chopped  a few extras for dinner, wrapped them in tin foil and stuck 'em in the fridge until later. After lunch I took myself along with my book headed off to the swing by the pond to read for a while. It was nice, the wind was a bit cool but the sun was wonderful. Back to the Igloo around 3:30 pm to sit inside reading and enjoy the quiet.

With daylight savings time it's light much later and since it was a such a nice day I BBQ'd dinner tonight starting just about 6:30 pm. While I was cooking Mac dropped by Riley came outside and we all chattered for a while. About 7:20 pm I came inside bringing our dinner along with me. Garlic Italian Potatoes with Onions, Orange Zest Veggies, and JD Honey Smokehouse BBQ Chicken Breasts. It was good, we followed that with a couple of oatmeal cookies later on.

A quick clean up inside and out, walk to the dumpster and home to play a couple games of Yahtzee and guess what...I won, both games. ~laugh~ I will make no comment about the fact that Riley said I cheated....which I didn't but ....

After that we headed off in our directions to do whatever it is we do. Not an earth shattering day but a nice one all the same. Glad the sun is back out, the heat is back as well. On that note I'm going to sign off, thanks for stopping by, until next time...be safe...take care..

Cold morning, stayed in today....

A cold night again, with a cold damp morning on it's heels, I opted to stay inside this morning and missed the fire crew. The day eventually warmed up to just needing a light coat or a heavy sweater but I felt better staying inside for most of the day with just a short walk around the campground this afternoon. Tomorrow the weather looks to be great and I'm hoping to get back outside walking again. It's been a long time since we've walked and I'm ready.

Breakfast was a quiet affair and the only decision we made was about dinner and that Riley would definitely have it. ~laugh~ I can say that is a decision we carried thru on too. Just so you know Riley didn't miss a meal. ~laugh~ 

Magic the camp cat.....

Spent the morning doing some more research for campgrounds in Canada that we will require a number of times this coming spring and fall. I've located one for our appointments in Southern Ontario and I think one in the Ottawa region for a later date in September. I'll keep doing a bit more research in that area to see what will suit us best. 

Mac came by this afternoon to check on us since we hadn't been seen outside all day, nice of him to do so. I find with the damp, cold weather it's just better to stay inside until it passes, it's a lot less bothersome that way. Like I said, we managed a short walk this afternoon in the warmer sun.

I read a bit today and am enjoying being immersed once again in the world created by Robert Ludlum, he's a fantastic writer and draws the reader into his world with an ease and skill that is flawless. I've always enjoyed his books but not the works that have been co-written or that use his name such as Robert Ludlum's Bourne series by.....some other writer. I think these are story lines he had fleshed out a bit before he passed away and some one else has used his ideas to write a book. They aren't nearly as good. 

Jerry and Carol pulled out today about 2 pm heading for their home state of Michigan. Jerry was originally a Canadian but is a US citizen since he was in his early years, mid twenties I think he said. He was a radio personality in his time and has one of those voices that you always hear in commercials.

The park was looking pretty empty with about 8 or 9 spots open but 3 more folks pulled in to help fill the emptiness. One a returning couple that has been referred to as the 'drunk bump' people, and two we've never seen before. 

Again no night time fire as no one seems to be interested any longer. I think it's because there are so few of us here that know each other.

On our walk we happened to see Magic the local cat in all her black glory. She was coming from the cabin and stopped long enough for us to scratch behind her ears for a quick second before we left. I think she misses Ron & Sharon a great deal. 

During our walk we happened to go past the maintenance shop to check out the pool area as the temps are heating up maybe Riley will take a dip before we go. We happened upon Swilly once more working his magic with wood, refinishing a china cabinet for the owner's wife. A fantastic job he's doing, he's truly a wizard with wood. An extremely friendly fella to boot!!!

Dinner tonight was inside, having decided to stay out of the cold night air tonight. Chicken breast with friend Roger's BBQ sauce, steamed veggies with orange zest and Long Grain brown rice. Miss Riley said it was very good so we will just have to believe her!! I enjoyed the veggies which was all I felt like eating. 

Clean up and then off to our own interests. So as you can see not a big day but a day all the same. Tomorrow the temps will be better and I'm going to get out and enjoy them!!!! Thanks for stopping by, until next time..be safe, take care...

Cold, blue skies, saying goodbye to friends....

A cold night brought on a cold morning with temps in the low 40's over night, which for us folks from Canada would translate to being just about 4 degrees C. In other words brrrrrrrrrr, bring the heavy coat and mittens!!!!! About noon the temps were a bit warmer with the heat wave coming in at about 52F/11C, but the wind makes it much colder. We didn't get out of the 50's today but we're holding out hope for tomorrow. ~laugh~

The fire pit crew was Mac, Ron and Jerry at 6:30 a.m. when I wandered up. The wind from the east was cold, we couldn't huddle any closer to the fire or we'd catch fire. ~laugh~ A sad day as our good friends Ron & Sharon pulled out this morning about 8 a.m. for the long drive back to Kansas. Miss Sharon had no complaints about being parked close to the fire but Ron whined about the smoke and the noise. We think he may have lodged a complaint with management. ~laugh~ We wish them a safe journey home and hope to see them again in the fall!!!! The send off committee was pretty big, Riley and I, Mac, Jerry, Carol, Swilly, Robert, and Pete all showed up to send them on their way.

We headed home as their big wheels reached the hardtop. Breakfast was a quick event and after that I defrosted the fridge and freezer as it's been a while since I've done that. Took about an hour from start to finish and can you believe everything fit back in better than before? ~laugh~

We sorted the laundry and debated about doing it today or tomorrow however today won out as it's too cold to do much else except sit inside looking out. ~laugh~ Loading up the Dogsled we headed off to the coin laundry on Railroad Street! The place was just about empty but the dryers were almost all busy as they also do laundry service there and it seemed they had a lot of 'service' to wash, dry and fold. ~laugh~ We managed to finish shortly after noon and had everything buckled into the Dogsled with the tires spinning in the homeward direction. The Igloo, that place where we hang our hats and call home was waiting for us as patiently as ever when we got there just about 1 pm. We managed to have everything put away and have lunch on the go by 1:30 pm.

The blue skies, bursting shades of green, and the yellow ball in the sky all beckon us to come outside and enjoy but I'm telling you folks, I have the heater running in the Igloo. It's dang well cold. ~laugh~ Friend Swilly says it should warm up by Friday and I hope he's right or I might lodge a complaint with management. ~laugh~

The rest of the afternoon was spent with a good book by James Patterson called 3rd Degree. My next reading adventure will be with Robert Ludlum, one of my all time favourite authors, I'm going to read The Bourne Ultimatum, also a good read. It's been years since I've read it and I know I will enjoy it again.

Keeping an eye on the fire pit I can report that NO ONE ventured up to the place all afternoon or evening. Due to cold or just lack of interest I'm not sure but it's a dark place up there tonight. Ron usually built the evening fire and since he left this morning no one was around to do the honours. I did see Mac and Jerry wandering around looking lost and forlorn. ~laugh~ They had their head inside the engine compartment on Jerry's rig but seemed to spend most of their time just aimless walking. They might miss their buddy, it's hard to know.

Dinner tonight for me was the last of the homemade chicken soup and Riley made herself some turkey tacos which smelled good and according to the cook, they also tasted good. I'll have to take her word for it though, which means you'll have to take my word for it. Or not. ~laugh~

We had a game of Yahtzee this afternoon and I won, I won, I won....~laugh~ by 14 points but I won. Riley thinks I cheated!

I chatted with my sister Jan today for a while. She says it very cold up there with some snow but spring is just around the corner. We are mid way thru March and we all know that means April will bring rain to melt the snow, encourage the world to start greening up again. So you see, Spring is coming. Robins are heading north, one was spotted in South Western Ontario just this past week, a sure sign of spring!!
