A sit outside kind of day....

 

Our Location: 

MM 91-90 SB AZ 95, near Quartzsite, AZ

 

A very cold morning this morning, the outside temp read 34F/1.1C. Can you say Brrrrrrrr? It was very Brrrrrrr. However it warmed up relatively quickly and reached a high of about 64F/18C by 4:30 pm. The wind made it a bit coolish but not too bad. 

Red Ocotillo (Oco-tee-o) leaves but I think they will turn green soon.

I just love the stem/trunk of the Ocotillo.

The very smooth, very green bark of a Palo Verde tree.

 

A walk this morning, another short one this afternoon and the rest of the day was spent outside sitting in the sun, doing a few house keeping chores, chatting with Doug, and just enjoying the day. 

 

Undercut bank of the arroyo (a-roy-o), back home we call them a ditch.

Large amounts of water go thru in a short length of time.

Very sandy on the bottom.

Dad called just before noon to ask if I'd noticed the Buffalo weather. Yes those poor folks receiving FEET of snow and the water of the lake is still very warm, they will be getting a lot more snow before the lake freezes over. Dad's neighbourhood also has some snow and a few flurries are falling from the sky!!

 

Way off in the distance thru the arroyo is this Sagurao.

It has interesting battle scars.

It looks like it's healed over a very big gash.

Things are quiet here and we like quiet, it's restful. Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed your visit.

That hint of green in the sage bush means it will be leafing out soon.

My sister asked about these early, I don't know what they are.

Friends leave, visiting more friends....

Our Location: AZ 95 BLM, near Quartzsite, AZ

 

 

Coolish in the mornings here but the day time temps are nice. Although it looks like a cold week ahead for us out here in the southwest. Not cold by other standards but not as nice as it's been. 

 

 

 

 

Yesterday we spent the day relaxing and chatting with our good friends Deb & Tom (Celebrating the Dance). It was a very peaceful and relaxing day. We followed the day of chat with a fire as the darkness settled in here on our little neighbourhood. A truly awesome time Riley and I have had with the wonderful folks as our neighbours.

 

 

 Deb lead off a couple of times before they finally both had the wheels turning.

 

 

This morning brings an end to their being our neighbours though as they pulled up stakes and head south for prior commitments. We watched them go with a sad feeling but happy to know that perhaps we will cross paths again if not this year, hopefully next. 

 

 

 Deb is waiting for Tom and the Stinger Bee, she came back once and then returned to this same position and started coming back again.

 

After hugs and see ya later's, we watched as they started getting ready to pull out. Deb was leading with the Jeep, soon she stopped, turned and waited, came back, chatted a minute or two, turned and headed back to the road, but stopped again and once more waited. Tom rolled the tires of the Stinger Bee over a couple of times before stopping, which once again caused Deb to come back. Finally just when we were thinking they were going to change their minds and stay, they both headed off bound for AZ95. We watched them go with dust swirls kicking up and smiled as we consider ourselves blessed to have such good friends. 

 

 

 Soon Tom was rolling those big wheels, only to stop and then start again.

 

 

Before long we piled into the Dogsled with some chairs, some water jugs and some trash as we headed to Quartzsite. Our first stop was along Kuehn Road to check out a few vendors. Not much we were interested in but we walked around anyway. A call to my dad while we were trekking around just to touch base and see how things were going. Dad, we couldn't find the paint, sorry. 

 

 

They are now both rolling wheels toward AZ 95. 

 

From there we headed to Love's Truck Stop to give a trash donation before we continued out along Dome Rock Road. It took us a couple of pass before we noticed the familiar Miss Adventure and the silver jeep but we eventually spotted them. 

 

 

 And soon they were both kicking up the dust and motoring along to their next adventure. Have fun folks!!!

 

 

A nice visit with Doug & Yuma, the latter being very excited to see us, Doug seemed happy to see us too. Doug writes the blog Miss Adventure Travels and is in the process of cleaning up his motor home as he gets it ready for sale/consignment. He will soon be driving a nice big Class A motor home which I think he will be calling Leo or White Lion or some thing like that. He's pretty excited and we are excited for him.

We spent some time chatting and making a few tentative plans for the future, we'll just have to wait and see how they work out. It was nice to see him and Yuma again and the time slipped past quickly and pretty soon Riley and I headed out. We stopped for some water and then headed on home where we will spend the remainder of our day just enjoying the views and quiet. We are already missing the Stinger Bee and it's family. A big empty space now graces our side window.

Visitors, liking this spot....

Our Location: AZ 95 BLM, near Quartzsite, AZ

 

 

A nice quiet night last night, the road traffic died down quickly as the sun sank in the sky. Although I didn't take any photos of sunrise, it was a nice view. Cooler mornings here in the Quartzsite area than in Truckhaven. However the day time temps heat up nicely and before long we're taking layers off.  This afternoon's high was in the mid 70's/23ish in Celsius degrees.

 

 

If  you look really closely you can see our neighbour that pulled in just after we did. He's in the trees there. 

 From this distance Kofa Mountains look a bit more interesting but I'm still not feeling any pull to visit. 

 Now that section looks a tad more intriguing to me.

 

 

A walk this morning had me enjoying the flat areas of the desert, and the Saguaros of course. Some very interesting plant life in the desert. I'll share those photos tomorrow.

 

 The sun is starting to set now on the Kofa Mountains. 

Can you see our neighbour now? This is a zoom lens so he isn't nearly as close as he looks.

We were expecting company this afternoon and sure enough a nice little dusty black Jeep pulled in, weaving and dodging until they arrived right in our little yard. Friends Deb & Tom (Celebrating the Dance) were smiling as they stepped out of the jeep. Hugs and how are ya's of course followed. We moved around so some were in the shade and some not. The afternoon was gone before we realized it and all too soon we were hugging and saying our see ya's, and I didn't take a single photo. It was hard to believe the entire afternoon was gone so quickly. We had a great visit and enjoy spending time with this wonderful couple. We feel fortunate to have met them last year and hope to spend more time with them in the future. Truly an awesome couple. Some laughs, some chatter and just easy visiting. Who knows maybe we'll see them again before all of us leave this area.

A call to dad to see how things are going and inquire about Jason & Leah and their where abouts. They are currently in Great Falls, Montana and will head north to Lake Louise, Alberta. Leah wants to skate on the lake, as she did swim in it a few years ago on their honeymoon.  Then it's a short jaunt to their final destination in BC. They have travelled approximately 1600 MILES/2600 KILOMETERS in two days. They left yesterday at very dark thirty in the morning. 

 

 

 The light is reflecting off of the Igloo and the Dogsled. You can just see them there in the darkness.

 

 

 

Today's photos were taken yesterday and the sunset photos are LAST NIGHT (January 25), our first night here in this new location.
