A very quiet day....

Our Location:

North of MM 4, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

A coolish morning but the sun shone all day. I didn't wear shorts due to the coldish north wind but I did enjoy a nice walk, noticed a few blooms but otherwise the day was uneventful.  The wind while gusty at times was not unbearable but I was happy when I headed home after my walk.

We left off here. Those pipes feed water from this rock tank to the long steel tanks that look like rail cars.

The rocks are extremely smooth, with little dribbles of water here and there.

No pebbles or sand on the rocks, just in the little holes.

Today's photos pick up where yesterday's left off. Jerry and I walked down to the bottom of the ravine and found a few small tanks or indentations in the rocks, but the waterway itself interested me. The rocks were extremely smooth, with little to no sand or debris on them. It was interesting. We could find no evidence of a mine that would require this elaborate set up. Plus it would have been very hard to get the water up to any type of mine, the lines all ran the wrong way. They came down with indications of release, not up with indications of pumps. Screens over the ends of pipes indicate that the water was going into not out of them. Enjoy the walk up the river bed.

It was easy walking. Jerry is ahead at the curve.

It is easy to imagine the water roaring down here, crashing and smashing.

There are "lines" in all of  the rocks, everywhere you look. Straight and solid.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you had an excellent day!

Can you see Jerry way up there?

I turned around here, the stones looked pretty big ahead.

It was stunning to see the smoothness and the beauty here created by the force of nature.

Until next time.....

How can one not find beauty in this?

10, 000 gallons of water in these tanks with no apparent purpose for them being here. How can that be? They are full.

Take care, stay safe,

A cool start to the day but we had errands to run today and so headed off around 9:30 am. First was a garbage run to the rest area, next was Arco for diesel for the Big Dog, next was Harbor Freight, Walmart, gas and water all in the Walmart parking lot, and finally a bust at Ferrell Gas, no longer open to the public. Oh well, we'll get it filled in a day or two elsewhere.

I love the colouring.

Nothing is repetitive. The hills are never uniform, nor the colours.

We stopped and parked here for a bit.

After that it was a very quiet but nice day, not too hot, reached about 73F/23C. A beautiful day. Some helicopters flew by so low their feet were almost dragging in the desert sand but too far away to get a good pic with the phone. I do miss my camera. More pics of the ride with Jerry again. I hope you are enjoying the views. I sure did.

Those are water tanks over there and supply lines running to them along the hill.

We headed down that trail on foot. It was some pretty amazing things to see down there.

That's a man made dam over there. Lots of concrete.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you had a great day.

A closer look at the dam. The dark is water leaking through.

There is a spigot in the dam side.

To relieve pressure if the dam gets too full.

Until next time....

Some water behind the dam....

See the pipes? They are steel and the holders are secured in the rocks. They go to those first tanks in the pics.

They get their water from here. Tomorrow some more of pics of the water way.

Take care, stay safe,

2nd post today....

Our Location:

A much different day today. Rain overnight and some early this morning, very cool and damp today. Possibility of more rain later in the day. I do however see some blue sky peeking out here and there. Hopefully it clears up and things are warmer.

We were riding a ridge top. You can see it's not very smooth in the desert.

You can see the road way over to the right and a bit lower down.

We went over in the direction after a while.

We followed the ridge top for a long way.

Chatted with Janet last night for a while. Things are going well. Chatted with dad as well, seems like colder weather and more snow are on the way for them. Well it is still winter up there on the Rock.

So many layers and colours.

We eventually ended up driving not far from those lighter colours of sand. Long way to get there.

No photo can do this justice.

A bit of a wider view than the pic above.

More photos of my ride with Jerry. I hope you are enjoying the trip.

The roads were rough in places but the views made it all worth while.

Lots of cholla and ocotillos.

Rough country, glad I wasn't walking.

We are heading down that opening in the hills.

A quick storm rushed through this afternoon, lasted for about 15 minutes. The sky was very dark, the wind picked up quickly and the rain fell for about 30 seconds before it started to hail along with the rain. A few photos for you to see.

The white dots are hail.

You can see hail on the mat.

Lots of water fell in a short period.

You can see the water rushing by, not deep but fast.

Hail by the fire pit.

Until next time....

Take care, stay safe,
