Errand day in Yuma....

Our Location:

North of MM 4, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

Riley and I knew we had errands that would take up most of the day, and so it did. We left home around 9 am and didn't get back until almost 3 pm. A full day for us. We first needed clean clothes and since there is no river nearby to use, although lots of stones for beating the clothes on, we opted for a laundromat. Joanna's Laundry on Orange Street. It's reasonable in price but it's getting tired and isn't as clean as it used to be. The nice lady that used to keep things moving along wasn't seen today at all and I'm under the impression she isn't there any longer, which is a shame. However, the prices were reasonable, ranging from $3.50 to 6.50 or at least the machines I noticed. The dryers are big and a quarter nets you 6 minutes, which is very reasonable.

Just leaving  Joanna's Laundry.

We next went to Walmart, hoping for haircuts and some groceries. No appointment, they could only take one, so we passed and just did the groceries. We did well, a pretty full cart for less than $150 US. We stopped at the water fill station in the parking lot, 5 gallons for $1.00. A very good deal. So we now had three stops down but the hair cut was moving down on the list. We decided since we were pushing the time we would normally start preparing and cooking lunch we knew we would be hungry by the time we got home and opted to eat out, which is something we've done more this winter than any in the past. We always chuckle when Lorne (A Place Called Away  ) mentions the Human Feedlot or Feed Trough, which of course is the Golden Corral. Since we've never been we decided to give it a try. It was okay, the food was hot and there was plenty of it, although it lacked labels, which I didn't like. Riley enjoyed it a great deal.

I think those might be oranges on all of those trees you see.

Heading home I remembered the Sport Clips across the road from Lin's and The Black Bear Diner, so we headed there. Sure enough they could fit us right in and for $36.00 USD plus a tip, we were once again able to see easily without looking through hair. Yeah.... that was all the list accomplished.

Those are more fruit trees under the palms.

Yuma the sweetheart has now formed a habit of racing along beside the Dogsled when we come home. Not a good habit and I'm always mindful of him and it seems he only does it with the Big Dog, no other truck.  He is so excited to see us and he gets his pets and attention before he happily heads back home.

Not sure what they are growing but it always looks so amazing.

It's always green on this stretch of I-8.

So that's it, our errand day. Today's photos were taken in Yuma and on the way home. Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed your visit.

I think that's Pilot Knob Mountain over there.

Until next time...

Take care, be safe,

A busy day.....

Our Location: BLM, Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, CA

A wonderful night’s sleep for me and I lazed in bed until about 7:30 AM just because I could. Today was scheduled to be a busy one and I wasn’t in any hurry to get started. We chatted over breakfast and soon after had the laundry sorted, jugs collected, garbage collected and were piling into the truck to head out for our day in town.

Organ Pipe Cactus (?) at a fuel station in Yuma.

Love the bright colours.

Our first stop was the rest area on I-8 west to fill up some water jugs, and dump our garbage. From there we stopped at the Chevron Station to fill up our drinking water jug before we headed off into town. The drive was uneventful, just the way we like it. We pulled into the laundromat to find both front and back lot very busy so we opted to return to do the laundry at a later point in the day.

A view from inside Joanne's Laundromat in Yuma.

Off we headed toward the Arizona Market Place after a small tour of a few streets that truly had nothing to do with our day. We found the Market Place easily and were surprised at how many cars were in the lot, although the place didn’t seem to be busy once we started walking around. We found what we wanted and before long we were heading back toward the laundromat. We managed to find a Good Will store where we dropped off a bag of clothing that we no longer wanted.

The beginning of sunset.

Back at the laundromat we found it almost empty and quickly went about getting things into the washers and before long into the dryers. Four loads, washed, dried and folded within 2 hours. I was happy. We were out the door and moving on.

The sun is sliding slowly behind the clouds.

We found a Fry’s but opted instead for Walmart and within a minute or two were parked and shopping at Walmart. Groceries that hadn’t been in stock when we were there the other day is what we were looking for, but still a few holes in the shelves. After that it was a stop at Wells Fargo Bank to pick up some cash and off we headed home.

The sky is a mix of blacks and yellows.

The Agricultural Inspection station was once again an interesting part of the trip. A female inspector asked us if we had any fruit. So using the standard answer I’ve been told works every time, I answered,” yes, we purchased our fruit at Walmart a little while ago.” and handed her the receipt. She then informed me she would need to see the fruit. So as I started to open the door to step out she asked me where I am from. I replied,”Ontario, Canada.” She asked if we were spending the winter in the area. I explained not the whole winter but a portion of it in this area but will be moving on soon. She asked if we were staying at the Dunes and I said no, Ogilby Road area. How much longer are you in the area. Answer, about a week. She then decided that she didn’t want to see the fruit and told me to go ahead. So we drove away more confused than I have been originally over the whole thing. Why would how long I’m staying make a difference? It’s the same fruit it was when she asked to see it. Needless to say I doubt we’ll be purchasing any fruit in Arizona while staying in this area in the future. It’s just too bizarre and confusing.

It was 3:30 pm before we had everything inside the Igloo. After getting things put away we opted for a quick and easy bite to eat and a chance to relax from our busy day. We spent some time with our books and just enjoyed the peace out our window.

Riley once again enjoyed a campfire tonight. She’s getting into the same habit she has in our summer location. She enjoys the campfires there as well. Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed your visit.

The colour is slowly fading in the west and soon all will dark.

Until next time… take care, be safe,

A pretty busy day.....

Our Location: BLM Road 801, Near American Girl Mine Road

'Wind through the willows they're disturbing my pillow of leaves that fell on the ground.' Yesterday morning the line from a song sprang to my mind the minute my eyes opened and I could hear the wind whistling not through the willows but through the slide toppers. This morning there was no wind, not a breath, dead calm but as today progressed the wind began to blow ever so slightly and so it continues but as a gentle wafting. Truly we've been very fortunate here with little to no wind most days.

The last few seconds before the sun pops up between those peaks.

There it is peeking over the edge.

Today would be a day of chores in Yuma. We left home but drove around a bit and so didn't get to CJ's Repair shop to pick up our tire cover until almost 11:30 AM CST. A quick stop at the Family Dollar to pick up some things Riley wanted and from there we headed off to Fry's Grocery and Gas bar where we managed to fill the Big Dog's drinking bowl for $2.97 per gallon. We left the gas bar and dropped into the Poppa John's for a pizza to go. For less than $20 we had a large pie with 5 toppings, a dozen bread sticks and a big bottle of pop. The pizza is of course excellent in our opinion.

The sun through the arms of the Ocotillo.

It was a tight squeeze but some how it managed.

We left Poppa John's to head to Joanne's Laundromat on Orange Street where we spent some time getting us some clean clothes to wear. We also enjoyed some pizza while the washers did their magic. A couple of hours there had us leaving with all clean clothes for another while. Yeah. We love to have clean laundry, don't you?

The sky tonight after the sun had dipped behind the horizon.

It was just like fire.

After that it was a stop at Walmart for a few things before we hit the road for the home. We didn't arrive back at the Igloo until about 3:30 pm CALIFORNIA time. I'm sure HRH Miss Kitty though we had abandoned her as we were gone most of the day.

It's not quite full up there in the sky.

Laundry put away, some closets rearranged, tire cover on, a quick burn to rid us of our burnable garbage and a chat with dad while I was doing that. By that time the sun was down and it was time to come inside, do this post and spend an evening enjoying the company of my daughter.

Sunset reflecting on the window.

So there you have it, a beautiful day but one we spent doing chores away from home. Tomorrow is a travel day and we will be packing up, heading out hopefully around 9 am.

Some nice pink in that sky too.

A beautiful view tonight.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed your visit.

Slowly fading into a softer and softer shade.

Until next time... take care, be safe,
