A hike today to Palm Canyon......

Our Location:

MM 91-90 SB Az 95, near Quartzsite, Arizona

Too early this morning my eyes opened and wouldn't go back shut, it was 3:30 AM. To say it's been a long day is an understatement. A quick 30 minute rest, not really sleeping but not really awake either seemed to do the trick.

Sunset last night over the White Lion with the Stars and Stripes flying in the breeze.

I chatted with my sister and her friend Barb this morning while having my coffee, catching up on a few things back home. A few inches of snow and some coolish weather but otherwise it seems things are going fine there.

I think Yuma's excited to get going.

Just so we know where we are.

Dark and foreboding over there.

Riley and I headed out for an abbreviated walk this morning, only putting half of our usual day's aim. We all met back here at home dirt while Doug ( Miss Adventure Travels ) finished his breakfast and coffee before we all piled into the Dogsled for a drive to Palm Canyon to see the famous half dozen or so palm trees in the mountain side.

We will drive that ribbon of road over there.

Lots of Teddy Bear Cactus here.

It was a very interesting trip, the road was wash boardy but not overly bad with just the truck, and we made it easily and fairly quickly. The hike was fantastic, not too much of a work out but enough to get the blood pumping. Riley lead the way for a long while and before we knew it, we had reached the little wooden sign that pointed to the palms. Sure enough, there they were, nestled into the side of the mountain.

Nice views of the Kofa Mountains

That road is all uphill from here.

We chatted with a family from the Yuma area, mom, dad and three of their four children and their pooch Miney (short for Hermomine). Two of the kids climbed quite far up under the palms but couldn't make the bottom. We all stayed on the flat and just watched.

The start of the trail.

Very big sky.

Back down at the Dogsled we met another couple from the San Diego area there for a short time while on a trip to see family in Tucson. Lots of folks around, but not too busy. A very nice hike, thanks Doug for being the tour guide today. On our way back toward AZ 95 we stopped to offer the family we'd met earlier a ride back to their van, which was a mile away. They all climbed into the box including the dog and we dropped them at their front door.

The wash bottom is full of huge stones and lots of gravel.

I love the colour of the rocks.

Back home we all went our separate ways and enjoyed the quiet. So the photos for the next few days will probably be of the Kofa Mountains and our hike to Palm Canyon. I hope you like them Al ( The Bayfield Bunch  ) , I know you folks spent some time around there.

My favourite photo of the day.

There are some massive holes up in those rocks.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed your visit.

Until next time....

I love the  jagged skyline.

The famous palm trees that grow only in this tiny little space.

Take care, be safe,
