Friend arrives, sad news, desert blooms…..

Our Location:

BLM Ogilby Road, Winterhaven, California

Our days are quiet and peaceful. We have been just relaxing and enjoying the last few weeks here in the desert before we start our journey homeward.

A few pictures of the desert in bloom. I hope you enjoy the pics.

The weather here has been very nice, but that cold north wind visits often. As I type this post it is raining slightly and has been since I woke around 3:30 am.

That’s us way off in the distance.

Flowering Sage Brush in the wash.

The weather back on the Island is very unseasonal, the sap is running well now, the flowers are starting to push up and the birds are returning. I do think it will be a very early spring.

I wonder if this a javalina track?

Other news from back home, Justeen Anstice fell, breaking her hip. She is a wonderful lady, a youngster at 93. Her husband Ron passed last summer and she has been living alone since. Riley and I do some light house keeping for them once a week while on the Island. Get well soon Justeen.

Doug and Yuma joined us on home dirt a few days ago. You can catch his story at Miss Adventure Travels.  He needed glasses and so we headed off to Mexico yesterday, March 14. It was a good day.

Doug and Yuma arriving.

Yuma was excited to get out.

We had breakfast here

Yes, it’s a rubber chicken. Only in America. Lol.

We received the news that John Brown passed away a few days ago. I didn’t know John well, having just met him this year for the first time in Q, when Riley and I dropped into chat with Lorne and Sue. He and his bride Brenda were visiting as well. We later spent a few happy hours and New Year’s Eve together getting to know them better. They pulled out of Ogilby Road a few weeks ago. His quiet, unassuming manner, soft voice and stories are how I will remember him. A very nice man. Our deepest sympathies to Brenda and all of John’s family. Rest in Peace John.

Thanks for dropping by.

Until next time….

Take care, stay safe,

Deb

  4. Beautiful desert flowers, thanks mostly to all the rain you've been getting.
The weather is still up and down here, so if you can put your trek off for another week, it would be to your advantage.
Definitely sad news about John. We met him in 2019 at Blogger Fest. He will be missed.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. The desert is always a mystery and a miracle, the beauty ever changing and always a beckoning tease.
We are in no hurry, we have a few weeks left before we return to Ontario but we will soon start our trek in the general direction.
Sad indeed about John. We only met him just before American Thanksgiving last year and spent a few happy hours with him and Brenda. I was looking forward to many more visits.

  5. Just a thought for both you and Doug as you plan on your trips east. The Full Eclipse on April 8th might easily ft into those travels, pick up some eclipse glasses in advance. We'll be attempting to enjoy it from Dayton, if the clouds permit.
Great pictures of the desert blooms. I'm inspired to make a day trip out early next week.

    1. I’ve been reading about the eclipse, we shall give it some thought.
The blooms are beautiful, the purple and white on the roadside is hard to capture but is pretty. We are of course on Ogilby just a mere few hours from San Diego.

  6. Beautiful pictures, Deb.
Nice that Doug found you and can spend some time this winter in your company.
Sad news about John. We didn't know them but may have met John at the same Bloggerfest Rick mentions.
He looks very healthy in the pictures. Life can be short. 😪

    1. Thanks Patsy. Yep Doug and Yuma arrived without any help and are parked beside us in the next spot. It seems we are destined to have Doug as a neighbour and a good one he is.
Yes it was sad about John but he briefly touched our lives and for that we are grateful.

    1. lol….I thought is was something naughty! It is always sad when people pass but as I said we were fortunate to have some time with him and Brenda, it brightened our day. The weather is slated to keep getting better and we are hoping it proceeds us all the way home.

  10. Your pictures of the desert blooming are beautiful. Is that a Labyrinth in the 7th picture down? If so I hope you can show me where it is next time. Missing the desert almost as much as we are missing spending time with you and Riley.
It was so sad to hear that John had passed we enjoyed the time we got to spend with him and Brenda this past winter. Such a nice man.
Glad to read Doug found you...😊

    1. The desert is alive with colour and pollen, my shoes are often doused with yellow!
Yes it is, it is back where the lady was stuck. I’m pretty sure it’s new in the pass few months as I don’t remember it being there before.
We too are missing you and Tom, coffee and happy hour are much less rowdy. lol.
I was very saddened to hear of his passing but feel fortunate that he touched our lives every so briefly but left an impression of a warm, wonderful man.
Yep, Doug and Yuma came speeding up road 3, and arrived in a cloud of dust with Yuma’s tail wagging so hard the motor home was wagging too. lol.
      Hugs. Stay safe.
