Lots of photos today....

Our Location: Summer Spot

 Manitoulin Island, Ontario

Busy working toward getting everything ready to go, packing things, cleaning up other things, mechanical things, insurance things, drug things, etc, etc. Busy, busy, busy.

Fungus on a stump.

Even the poison ivy is turning colours.

Yes it's frosty on some mornings.

Brother in law Dennis fell on Sunday, Oct 2 and broke his hip. He got a new on Monday, Oct 3. He's in a rush to get home, he's not a good patient.

I love the contrast in the fog.

My late hubby Richard would have celebrated his 73 birthday on the 4th. Marion and Harold would have celebrated their 73 wedding anniversary on the same day.

A magnificent sunrise.

The same piece of water as above.

And yet again.

The reflection is amazing.

Fall is definitely in the air, a few very frosty mornings and a few not so very frosty but overall the days are nice with a cold one here and there in the mix but we have no complaints. All darkness on my morning walk to coffee as opposed to the summer when it's daylight so early. I'm hearing less Sandhill Cranes and less Canadian Geese as well. The loons are calling often in the foggy mornings, and the crows and ravens are very vocal.

I pass this tree every morning on my way to coffee.

We park up there behind the yellow of the birches.

I love the colour.

So our time here is getting shorter and shorter, bittersweet times. Happy to be going but sad to be leaving. Spring seems close but yet to so far away at the same time.

Starting to look bare, just a few more things to put away.

These 3 photos were taken from the same spot.

That's water way off in the distance.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed your visit.

Until next time...

Take care, be safe, stay healthy,

Deb

  1. I think fall was always my favorite time. Things seem to slow down and mother nature put on the most beautiful colors of the year. Also the temps cooled down from the summer heat, I don't think we even knew what air conditioning was I just know we didn't have it. Going back to school wasn't my favorite but I did. Safe travels. Vern in Boise , we still have high temps in the eighties

    1. Fall is an amazing time here, the photos don’t do justice to the beauty but it gives at least an impression. Winter is also beautiful but it’s difficult to take photos while shivering. I always look at fall with two hearts, happy to head for warmer places and familiar faces, but sad to leave our laid back spot and loved ones behind. Air conditioning is not needed here in our spot, we are less than a quarter mile from the water, on a rock in the middle of Georgian Bay, the wind will begin soon if it isn’t yet. Of course that same wind turns icy and invasive as fall lengthens and winter rolls closer. Today’s high will not reach 50f. Time to get the wheels rolling.

    1. We hope to have everything ready to roll very quickly after Thanksgiving (this weekend), spend a few days with family in southern Ontario and then be off. Hope to see you and Yuma in the desert soon.

    1. Aw yes, you run from the heat and we run from the cold. You would like it here, no creepy crawly slithering venomous things, just a few varieties of creepy crawly slithery flying things. Black flies, mosquitoes, deer and horse flies, wasps, bats, snakes ( harmless), mice, spiders, earwigs, and ants. Then a bit bigger things like skunks, rabbits, raccoons, porcupines, deer, a few very elusive moose, coyotes, a wolf or two, and the occasional bear. And of course the local two legged things. Haha Enjoy your last little bit of time in Arizona.

  4. We have the same sentiment about packing up and leaving. We are fortunate to have the best of both worlds, enjoying this lovely weather as long as possible and then travel to another country offering warmth for the winter. Bittersweet. Your pictures are beautiful!

    1. Thanks Patsy, your fall photos are amazing, just love all that colour. I often wonder if the missing of family is one of the reasons we southbound winter avoiders form such interesting bonds with each other. Reminding us of family back home in some “familiar” way.

  5. Some of your photos this week look like some I just posted with the sun, fog and water. Absolutely beautiful! Love all those fall colors. I really miss those.

    1. There is nothing quite like early morning fog, water and sun, regardless of where it is. The colours are beautiful indeed. Enjoy the rest of your hunt.

  6. Deb, thanks for your comment on my blog. We actually had a cottage on Manitoulin years ago and loved the trip up over the ferry. Never got to stay long enough though!

  7. Thanks, welcome to you as well. I’ve been lurking around your blog for a long while and enjoy it a great deal.
I grew up here but left for a number of years. It always surprises me the number of folks that know of this hunk of rock in the water.
